Today TrueFans launched Co-Listen & Chat (the new Netflix & Chill).

The error you see is the time out because p2.0 has so many splits but we are seeing all the payments and splits
In the past we could batch the payments using Keysend. With the new LNAddress protocol it is sent to each split individually which then times out
We are adding a payment queue next week to overcome this timeout issue

@nprofile…jnjt @nprofile…td70 @nprofile…w0mx 100% agree but this is the first time I have seen any other company add an AI label. I come from the school of build it and ask for feedback. Now hopefully this topic will get more attention and with it a consensus on how we can tackle it together .
I have said the explicit tag is voluntary and so should the AI tag. The adoption will be low but it’s a start. However we can get AI to police AI and mark the transcript with a score which needs P2.0 agreement.

We enable podcasters to self label if their host(s) is AI. Not if the show used AI. We are working with PodToo to enable AI to measure the transcript of each episode and give it a score out of 100.
Today we let users filter out any content tagged AI bit with the AI ranking score, in the near future we will let them have a sliding scale so they can choose 30% 50% etc.

The new TrueFans analytics dashboard for creators shows both the Total Play Counts across all apps and Total Listen Time broken down by app. We achieve this by streaming episodes (no downloads) both MP3/MP4 as well as HLS.
What we are now seeing are the numerous AI bots streaming each episode, sometimes for hours.
We have added a bot filter to enable creators to see their true play and listen time numbers.
We will be adding more BOTs to the OPAWG Bot list.

@nprofile…w0mx we are not spending dev cycles as a priority on this until we see a clear path forward.
The payment methods keep changing like quick sand and we don't want to waste our time on implementing one standard one week only to have it replaced two weeks later.
We are spending more time investigating Stablecoin micropayments via Stripe and Paypal.
Bitcoin has lost 50% of its value in the last few weeks and I am not sure this will be the path forward for payment providers or TrueFans.

@nprofile…glz5 @nprofile…ge5x I fully understand what I was asking for by the removal of section 230. It would make social media unworkable but social media has become toxic and with more AI slop it becomes even worse with people believing more of the fake content.
I just think Musk and Zuckerberg should be held to higher standards with the content on their platforms. If they mention the word N*zi in Germany they immediately block the content. They can do better and should be fined if they don't.

Threads saying the quiet part out aloud. They never cared about the Fediverse. It was a good way to get people to sign up and cheer them on. This is a typical Meta bait and switch strategy. Start open or promise open and then switch to their proprietary services. Facebook used to have an RSS feed and used to support the ActivityStreams and then one day it didn’t.
Twitter and YouTube killed their RSS feeds when they got scale.

Really Simple Syndication was what Netscape called it as they were syndicating data by pulling it from other sites into the Netscape Homepage Portal. (news, sports, weather).
Today RSS is used to push podcasts into listening apps along with lots of metadata. But I don't think users understand the role of RSS. i.e Publish Once, Play Everywhere.
YouTube, Spotify and TikTok don't want users to ask about RSS.

Is history repeating itself? In the past people owned their own blog and published an RSS feed for others to consume in readers. However people got frustrated that no one was reading their posts or leaving comments.
So along came Facebook. People could write their posts and friends would comment. No need for a blog or RSS.

So in 2026, we should try and raise the awareness (again) of the importance of RSS.
RSS = POPE - Publish Once Play Everywhere. (Audio, Video or Live). You OWN your RSS feed and it is HOW you distribute your content everywhere.
Making people more aware of the underly tech aka RSS also makes explaining the benefits of Podcasting 2.0 much easier, as it is simply extending an RSS feed with new features i.e tags such as person, chapters, transcripts or location.

YouTube and TikTok marketing have misappropriated the word 'Podcast' as short hand to mean any chat show format, often with two talking heads, be it audio, video or live. And the critical determinant of a podcast is that it can be "distributed everywhere" and that requires RSS.
Sadly I fear the role of RSS in podcast distribution has been forgotten by the proprietary walled garden platforms which is why YouTube and now TikTok can call a video show, only available on their platform, a podcast.

I don’t really engage in social media now. A few friends on WhatsApp and tech posts here, no threads, x or insta. And somehow I don’t miss it and I survive. So getting rid of their protection is something I would be in favour off.

I'm thinking about Podcast SEO in an AI world.
SEO = Search Engine Optimisation
GEO = Generative Engine Optimisation
It made me wonder if we need to use JSON-LD markup in our app to help Google discover like they do with Product Snippets.
So we use markup for episodes, reviews, ratings etc.

We do allow you to filter hosts by tag. But you are 100% right this is manually maintained and we might miss a tag added by a host. Getting a list of tags automagically by reading the feeds from each host would work really well.

On every podcast page their is a info icon. This shows a popup for each podcast. The popup info contains ALL the Podcasting 2.0 tags the podcast feed is using and each tag lis linked to the Podcasting2.org website for a full explanation.

The validator will show you the errors and then you can click on them to see which episode and what tag has failed.
We need to update this to add tips on what to do if there is an error.

@nprofile…h82d BTW we have low latency HLS working on TrueFans. It means we convert MP3/MP4 into HLS.
We default MP3 to 96K and MP4 to 720K but HLS auto-picks higher or lower versions based on bandwidth.
We are testing not using a CDN. The issue is if you just replace MP4 with HLS and use the same Server/CDN infrastructure, then you save nothing and in fact it costs more to store multiple versions of HLS.
So if you can't reduce the infrastructure costs by using HLS, then just keep using MP4.

Best of all we finally got to cover a topic I have wanted to discuss for months on Podnews Weekly Review called SecureRSS. SecureRSS allows podcasters to combine both freemium and premium content in the same RSS feed which negates the need for separate paywall sites like Patreon.
TrueFans recently demoed SecureRSS at the Podcast Standards Project meeting in London. We'll be talking more about SecureRSS in the coming weeks and months.

2. People who can afford it no longer see adverts because they pay subscriptions. I pay for Prime Video, Spotify, YouTube, Netflix etc and I never see ads, so who are advertisers actually paying to reach?
3. More podcasters are building community on platforms like Patreon, Memberful and Substack. For example The Joe Budden Network has earnt more than $1mn/month on Patreon from podcasting. In 2023, podcasters on Patreon earned a combined $350 million.

This was one of my all time favourite episodes to record with James because we covered three hot trends; declining mainstream media, declining advertising reach and the growth of new media networks.
Key Trends:
1. Mainstream newspaper, radio & TV 'gatekeepers' like BBC, CBS, Fox News TV, The Washington Post etc. appeal to an older declining audience.
Whereas new media networks like Jubilee Media, Zeteo, MeidasTouch etc. attract millions of younger users globally.

I'm pleased to finally say that TrueFans has been approved and we are now live in the Google Play Store.
This is v1.0, we will be further tweaking the UI this week but it is fully functional with podcasts, music, video, wallets, micropayments, funding tag, activitystreams etc. Any feedback good or bad is gratefully received.

1/2 - TrueFans now allows you to export your podcast activity in the W3C ActivityStreams 2.0 format.
We use the AS2.0 structure - Actor, Verb, Object format. e.g Sam (Actor), Plays (Verb), Podnews Weekly (Object). plus attributes Listen Time, Percent Completed, Value Paid.
We enable users to auto publish their activity to X, ActivityPub, BlueSky, Threads and Linkedin.
We allow Creators to do the same.

3/3 - Better to use Podcasting 2.0 Chapters.
If you use Podcasting 2.0 chapters, we will display them first. If you don't we will look in your feed for PSC Chapters, and lastly, we will check your episode description.
The benefit of Podcasting 2.0 chapters is that they are in an external JSON file, which can be dynamically updated without the need to republish your RSS Feed.
With Podlove 1.0 Chapters, they are either hardcoded into your RSS feed or hardcoded into your episode description.

Unless we start to simplify the message to creators, production companies and eventually consumers about the benefits of Podcasting 2.0 or Podcasting 3.0 - we will forever be trying to sell an Elephant. You don't but I want Podcasting 3.0 and give my reasons and I even say why I might want Podcasting 4.0 in the future when we get Agentic AI agents working on podcasts apps i.e your button of joy delivering structured serendipity.
My Podcast Agent (PA) will know the time of day, what is recent on my playlist and my listening habits (and work commute).

@nprofile…zn42 my point wasn't to use these alternative platforms. My point was it is good to see other platforms talking in the same way. i.e streaming payments per second.
When the music gets played, the artist gets paid.
As more people hear about micropayment models it will help us reach a wider audience

3/3 - Cross App Comments.
Our goal is to read/write to social media end points. Equally via the Alby API we should also be able to grab TLV records for boosts from Podverse, Castamatic and PodcastGuru.
I am not sure how we can get comments from Fountain. @nprofile…2d4u do you publish the Fountain comments externally or is there an API. Or do we need to support NOSTR?

Next we will enable users to verify their Bluesky account in TrueFans and then write a comment or reply to a comment. These will then be posted in Bluesky on the post listed in the Social Interact Tag.
We are now looking at how to use the SocialInteract Tag to post to Mastodon via ActivityPub which is sadly harder than AT Protocol?
We plan to post other activity verbs the same as TrueFans.social

We now read the RSS feed and grab the comments. We add them to other comments in TrueFans sorted chronologically.

8. Creators Dashboard & Portal
- By default, the payment values for your podcast are blank/nil e.g stream, like, comment. You can change these and set your own default payment values.
- By default, the URL for your podcast page is a TrueFans URL. You will soon be able to change this to a customised domain.
- You can also change the layout, colours, or images to convert your page to a fully customised Portal.

- By default, the first tab on your podcast page is episodes. However, creators might prefer to reorder their page to show their blog, merch store or events as the default tab on their podcast page. Additionally, creators might choose to hide one or several tabs.

7. Activity
By default, all your activity (play, comment, follow etc.) is published to the Fediverse via TrueFans.social. You can turn this off in your settings to keep all your activity private or you can reduce the number of activity verbs published.
