Chained chest with lock passcode at the front door is the smartest idea. All couriers have options to provide passcodes for delivery guys, including Amazon. They do this for businesses but it's allowed for residential deliveries too - you just have to specify the note when ordering. I would advise changing the lock passcode regularly though since a fair number of thefts are caused by unscrupulous delivery migrants that just photo their delivery but then pick the package back up again and drop them off at home or a later pickup spot. I figure Amazon doesn't actually do very good GPS tracking of their vehicles when the government lets them hire a bunch of "refugees" and migrants.

If you ever use Hyper-V to host Windows 11 VM's (or any VM using vTPM support), be sure to backup the server certificates - if you ever need to move the VM's to another system, the vTPM (a requirement for Win11) uses the certs in the server system cert store for encryption. You can back up the VM and port it over, but you'd have to disable the vTPM in the VM settings because the new system (or install of Windows, etc.) won't have the same cert, so you can't re-enable TPM support for it. New builds of Windows (like 24H2 coming soon) will likely fail the TPM check as a result. Luckily, you only have to do this once for a server machine as the certificates won't change over the lifespan of the host OS install. They don't tell you this when you do a VM backup through the Hyper-V mgmt console. I'm not sure, but I don't believe Windows Server Backup (part of RSAT) does automatic cert backups either.

Bitcoin prices have fluctuated in lockstep with the US dollar very much so every time there's some economic impact. It isn't a "hedge against inflation" at all.
You clearly have never been to a farm co-op before either. These are the kind of people I make connections with. There's a lively barter system in exchange for essentials happening there. City folk enamoured with the latest Elon Musk-type speculations will never get it, and they'll be the first and worst when their technology fails them.
Gold didn't destroy money either - usury did. The ones that committed usury were the ones initially backing the financial system with gold and held onto the gold while they debased the currency and created interest on debts produced from nothing.

If that's the case, why is it that Bitcoin goes down when the US dollar goes down? Why does it go down when seizures or losses happen? Electronic money can't survive an EMP. When the computers go down, you have nothing. Even with market manipulation, paper money is still a physical, tangible thing that can buy goods and services. What's better are assets with real stable physical value like gold, or even better than that is bartering for value-for-value. The US dollar was actually in a good position until it was debased from gold reserves in the 1970's. When that happened, the Fed was given a green light to print more whenever they liked. Inflation is ONLY caused by printing more money. And now with no reserve commodity to base it on, it's easily manipulated to reallocate power. Just more usury to destroy nations.
Also, as far as the security of cryptocurrency goes, I have two words for you: Shor's Algorithm.

Don't get me wrong or anything: I do wanna set up a Lightning wallet at some point, but I just wanna stabilize this as a communication site first and foremost. I need to fix the title text, pick a better colour theme, set up a new logo and favicon, etc. Sats to me are just a bonus, not the final goal. I see too many people looking at it like it's their new day job (delusional people on X/Shitter acting like the new YouTubers, thinking Daddy Elon is gonna give them their paycheck for building a big audience).
Quick question though: is your profile pic/avatar thingy broken or is it just my end? What relays do you post to (njump sometimes gets it wrong)? I can try to grab it from another one using nak. I just started up this one, but I noticed that profile retrieval is a bit buggy.

Weird issue with a Windows install.... have you ever tried to wipe a recently new OEM Windows install on a brand name computer, and after using diskpart -> clean, Windows Setup fails to install with "Window Setup failed to re-initialize the deployment engine"?
I figured out that this was a BitLocker problem on new PC's. I had read that new brand name machines are all getting BitLocker encrypted by default, but it used to be that it wasn't complete until a user used a Microsoft Account to fully lock it and to log a recovery key online. I guess their OEM policy changed.
The way I detected it was because I inspected the partition layout and saw that after Windows Setup creates the partition layout, the large partition meant for the install had an "Unknown" file system. For some reason, even when the partition table is wiped out, when Windows recreates the partition table, Windows Setup can detect some leftover BitLocker stuff and it throws off the ability to reformat it correctly.
I could be wrong, but I don't believe SSD's run TRIM in Windows Setup/PE. It usually is scheduled by the disk defragmenter in Windows, but Windows Setup doesn't run those scheduled tasks. This is likely why there's still some encryption metadata stored on the disk even after you wipe the partition table.
The solution to the problem is to manually format the partition using diskpart if your Windows Setup already created it (though you'll need to reboot to relaunch Windows Setup because when it throws an error, you can't go back). You need to use the OVERRIDE parameter after selecting the right one. Here's a full set of instructions if you got this error while trying to wipe the drive and reinstall, such as the common method of using a USB thumb drive:
Reboot as the error prompt requires, and relaunch your installation media.
When you get to the disk partitioning screen, don't erase the current partitions - they're fine.
Hit Shift-F10 to open a Command Prompt.
Type the following commands (not the comments):
diskpart <ENTER>
list disk <ENTER>
(check by the size which disk is the disk you're installing onto - on a single drive system it's probably disk 0 but YMMV)
select disk 0 <ENTER>
list partition <ENTER>
(look for the big primary partition - it's probably the third and final one on the disk, but again, YMMV)
select partition 3 <ENTER>
format quick override <ENTER>
exit <ENTER>
exit <ENTER>
(once for diskpart, and again for Command Prompt)
Now you'll be back to the disk partitioning screen again. Hit F5 to refresh the display, and then choose that same partition again that you did with diskpart. Windows Setup probably won't let you select any other unless you had multiple drives in your machine.
I'm not opposed to the idea of having drives encrypted by default, just that I hate that Microsoft requires that you sign in via a Microsoft Account so that there's a recovery key for the encryption - and they don't tell you that you should go and make a printed copy of it in case something goes wrong with the encryption or with the bootloader. AND IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WITH BIOS OR BOOTLOADER UPDATES! For anybody with only a single PC, this is a really poor recovery scenario. Also the fact that Microsoft mandates alternative login security methods instead of your Microsoft Account password to sign into the machine, which is breeding a new generation of users that just tend to forget their online password to be able to sign in on a friends computer and retrieve said BitLocker decryption key....
Thankfully, they haven't completely locked out the ability to bypass Microsoft Accounts altogether. Although they've started removing the bits that enable you to open a Command Prompt during the OOBE (the handy Shift-F10 as mentioned above for Windows Setup is getting taken out in recent builds), they still have the option to bypass the online login mandate via unattended installs. I'll publish my method in another note at a later date.
Oh, and Linux fans: disk encryption there really sucks bad. I haven't seen a single distro installer with LUKS encryption that easily integrates with TPM keys.
The solution is just this:
1) when the OS is installing with **optional** encryption, use the TPM keystore
2) tell the user WITH A BIG WARNING: "Write down this decryption key and keep it some place safe for emergencies, or lose your data!!" with multiple checkboxes that they've confirmed that they followed the instructions
3) make the user create a strong password to unlock the PC (not the same as the decryption key), or use biometrics or some method like a simple PIN, but don't require online access
4) use the TPM to do regular day-to-day decryption
Any OS vendor can follow this plan.
FYI: BitLocker slows down standard drives, especially SSD's, by a lot. The best drives for BitLocker are TCG OPAL/IEEE 1667 drives following Microsoft's eDrive specification, which do hardware encryption and don't slow down much.

I didn't play most of Sony's sequel follow-ups to their exclusives. I would've thought these studios are all hiring Sweet Baby for their DEI BS, but looking back on it, ALL of them were bought by Sony, and the sequels were far worse than the originals.
I quit playing Destiny 2 after Lightfall, which was a terrible expansion with an exponentially harder difficulty scale than prior, and introduced a whole bunch of trans tropes and symbolism after they ruined the best season they had in the Witch Queen expansion (Season of Plunder) with a DEI-filled gay kiss scene (with ABSOLUTELY ZERO straight hetero relationships featured in the game). They put more effort into trying to normalize non-normative sexualities and relationships than actual story-telling, and it shows by their sales numbers. Nobody wants this woke shit. Sony is wasting money. $3.6 BILLION DOLLARS they paid for Bungie. I don't even buy games for PS5 anymore, and I'm considering ending my PS+ subscription when it expires. I'm not even confident I would ever buy another PlayStation product again.
FYI: Blackrock and Vanguard, the architects of the prevalent DEI/ESG movement in corporations, are Sony's biggest shareholders.

I dunno, sometimes some relays have poor connections and get flooded by other relays that they bring feeds in from. Mine is connected to a bunch to bring in new posts from a load of different relays (under the Global page) to help start conversations - I hope mine's not slow! 😬

Unpopular opinion: Not a fan of digital currencies. Bitcoin solves SOME problems with fiat, but practically all money is digital now. Digital currency is already here what with Internet-connected personal bank records and banks creating digital money from thin air. Bank closures and social credit systems will just finalize the centralization of it.
I figure when Jesus does come back, it'll be after the event that kills all the computers. And all the bits of every digital currency will be depolarized off every computer drive they're stored on. At that point, you'll be wishing you had made more connections with people instead of with intangible metrics on the Internet.

Adguard Home is better than Pi-hole, but you usually need a software-level ad-blocker to block YT ads. The free Adguard browser extension is okay, but the paid software works better. You can get coupon deals for it on a lot of the tech sites, such as Toms Hardware and the like. I bought a lifetime subscription a few years ago. You can sometimes still get deals on it too.

This worked, though there is a hard character limit at certain screen widths. When I try to put in freespeech.social as the name, certain widths, like the full width with the Trends and People-to-follow bar comes up on the right, will get cut off as just "freespeech.s". If I put a space in between, as in "freespeech .social", it wraps correctly, but it looks a bit awkward. I'll play with it a bit, maybe try reducing the text size with small caps or something like that. Oh, and I did need to run that nak command too, otherwise it gave an error and said it couldn't update the profile. After I ran the command, no problems changing it.
Side topic: profiles from other users are not often getting retrieved, even after follows. I noticed some users are posting to ActivityPub (like on Poa.st) and come up through the Mostr bridge. However, their profiles very rarely come up for me. I can see profiles on njump though. But when I run nak to try to retrieve them from the Mostr bridge, I often just get "hello from nostr army knife". Is there any way to retrieve the profiles from njump and port them into Ditto, maybe even automate the process? Njump seems to get Mostr bridge ActivityPub profiles a lot better than nak. Here's an example of an npub that just never seems to work with nak:

I don't like the term "safe space" cuz it sounds too liberal, but too many people are getting sidelined and censored by Big Tech sites.
I wanna make this a social network where speech is free from censorship laws and bills being put into place like 🇨🇦 C-63, 🇺🇸 CISPA, 🇬🇧 OSA, as well as anti-1A lobby groups like CAHN and AIPAC. Public debate necessitates criticism without filters.

Would you believe this site is running on Windows?
Might seem blasphemous, but I got a spare system that isn't great with Linux hardware support. So I put on a Win11 23H2 install, gutted all the included apps and disabled a whole bunch of stuff, disabled sleep timers, etc. I set up WSL2 with Ubuntu (standard Ubuntu that supports upgrades). I found some info about a new feature called "mirrored networking" on WSL (only available on Win11 22H2+) - no more WSL NAT or port forwarding, just shared network access for both Windows and Linux applications so services talk to each through localhost.
I set up IPFS Desktop in Windows, which creates a node automatically for you without really even having to think about it and includes a nice dashboard application, installed Postgres for Windows so that I've got pgAdmin, and the WSL instance can be small and the rest of the storage is shared for both the database and IPFS storage. Ditto and Soapbox just run in WSL (I tried running Deno on Windows natively, but had a bunch of failures with parts of it). I did the database setup for Ditto in pgAdmin with a couple clicks. This is all running as a VM on a Window Hyper-V host too (it's a beefy system with lots of storage - the other half of it is for another project I'm working on).
I don't use nginx or certbot because it's all behind a Cloudflare Tunnel, which does the proxy and SSL termination. I only needed 1 tunnel for both the stock domain and the media subdomain, and just had to redirect the 2 ports: 4036 for Ditto, and 8080 for IPFS. No router port forwarding needed either since the tunnel does firewall traversal.
