The threshold for grand theft in most places is laughably low. The threshold in Washington is $750. You could easily exceed that boosting some clothes from a fancy store. NJ's threshold is $200 for a felony. Come on.
In some states (Colorado for example), theft is compounding; if you do it two or more times from the same store in six months, the value adds up. So you can easily face grand theft charges for lots of "little" thefts.

Even if they can't find evidence you stole any specific thing, they can definitely put you under surveillance. I considered becoming an apprentice machinist.
Everyone wanted 2-5 years of experience, FOR A FUCKING APPRENTICE. The starting pay was basically $20 an hour, which in Seattle is "we would pay you less but we legally cannot do so" wages.
I did find a place willing to do $29/hr and train from scratch, but they wanted 80+ hours a week of work. Plus looking online I found accusations of wage theft. Hard pass.
Every shop pays women and trans people like dogshit compared to the men. Every single trans person and every single woman I know who's worked in the trades here has complained of a MASSIVE pay gap between the men in the shop even BELOW them and their own position.

Almost none of them want to hire apprentices without schooling (which is expensive as fuck, and arguably unnecessary, given the entire trades system is SUPPOSED to be an alternative), and even WITH school people come up against walls like "$12/hr starting pay" and/or "need 5 years experience." Because these places are run by Boomers so wildly divorced from the cost of living they truly don't get it. They are like fully incapable of understanding.
Boomers genuinely, honest to god, do not want to train anyone. They will sooner die with a pipe wrench in their hand than train new people. They just want experience to fall into their lap like magic and make it "someone else's problem."

The richest people who support the leader make more money. They play ball.
Everyone else suffers horribly, but the stock market goes up, because the richest people are making money.
The support base is too ignorant to see what is happening. They really do believe the stock market correlates to their own success even though it doesn't.
Things seem fine... ish... for a while.
They continue supporting or at least shrugging off the regime until they wake up one day and notice "uhh why can't I afford literally anything and why are there basically no jobs left."

Hey y'all,
Anyone in Seattle area want some portable A/C units?
I got a 13,500 BTU portable unit, two 10,000 BTU portable units on wheels (used half of one season), and a 13,500 BTU window unit also used one season.
They all have integrated heat and cooling.
They are all 110V.
They don't have smart home shit except the window unit, but you can just not use the wifi on it. It doesn't require an app or anything.
I have all the hoses and mounting stuff for the three portable units.
I have the remotes for one of them right here, I can probably find the other two also but they're fairly universal.
Known working, but otherwise sold as-is.
I basically just have too many A/C units as the result of inheriting ones already that meet my needs.
Let me know! I would be willing to part with them for a really reasonable price. My baseline is about ~$150 for the stronger units and $100 for the smaller units. Will negotiate/haggle.

My advice before moving anywhere new, especially a “blue state” from a “red state”, as someone who’s done it:
1) Make sure you can live there without another person before you commit. Life happens. Things fall apart. Don’t wind up on the street or couch surfing if you can help it.
2) Don’t assume your online friends where you’re moving will translate to IRL friends. Some will. Some won’t. Sometimes your online best bud turns out to be a shithead. Other times the person you thought was mildly irritating turns out to be one of your best friends IRL. That’s life.
3) If you work, check the job market. Cannot stress this enough. See cost of living vs the wages where you live.
4) If you’re on public aid, check local programs. See what transfers over. See what’s better or worse. See how the local welfare programs are. Don’t assume.
5) If you expect utopia when moving, prepare to be disappointed. Set your expectations at a reasonable level.
6) “Blue state” doesn’t mean progressive everywhere. It’s safer to be trans in Tulsa OK (red state) than it is in, say, Moses Lake WA (blue state). “Blue state” doesn’t always mean “trans friendly policies.” Some blue states are very fiscally conservative, and that impacts your quality of life whether you realise it or not, for example interactions with any government service (Washington is very fiscally conservative although socially liberal… pray you never need unemployment benefits here).
7) Republicans are Nazis everywhere. They are not “more moderate” in Mass or Washington or Illinois or whatever. Same bullshit dog whistle anti-woke shit. This makes purple states dangerous in a unique way. For example, Illinois didn’t have a state budget for years due to a Republican governor and lack of supermajority in the legislature for the Democrats, which wrecked many people’s lives and made the state a nightmare to live in.
8) If you’re trans, Democrats are mostly just pretending they care about you as a trans person. Their preference isn’t outright hostility, it’s structuring things against you. You can have “rights” but be no better off. Enough of them would absolutely throw you in a woodchipper if it meant passing the laws they wanted to. Sure it beats being in a red state but everything still has this vibe of “I’m safe… for now.”
9) People who say “blue state cities are lawless shitholes” are wrong. People who say “they’re just as safe as the suburbs and you’ll never have any issues even in ‘rough’ areas” are also wrong.
10) Moving to a “blue state” isn’t going to cure every problem in your life. It can help some problems (abusive family, policy violence, etc.). It can make others much worse (cost of living, alienation, etc.). Remember that you can wind up homeless, too.
And the last thing, I won’t number it because it’s so important:
The cops are bastards in blue states too. Sometimes worse. Seattle police department sent more cops to January 6th than any other department. We are no closer to abolishing them than we were 10 years ago. They are turning this place into a panopticon. There are cameras everywhere now. Just saying.

For those who don’t know: it’s an instance hosted at the admin’s home. He has been accused of hundreds of thousands in embezzlement. It is completely valid to worry about the financial future of the instance. If it disappears, people lose their accounts for good and cannot migrate.
But some guy got BIG MAD because how dare you besmirch the reputation of this man. “Nothing is proven.” Yet he has not responded to any requests for financial documentation or how money was spent and is the subject of a police investigation now too. Sure he may be innocent… but it’s a *gamble.* Getting mad at urging people to move… smh.

Why is it every teacher in Hogwarts simultaneously is out to get Harry, yet they always seem to wind up subtly playing favourites?

I actually think the recorder (the shitty plastic instrument they gave every kid in the US and taught “Hot Cross Buns” and “‘Mary Had A Little Lamb” on) did more to dissuade kids from music than anything else ever.
Why?
Kids blamed themselves for everything sounding awful. Parents blamed the kids and the school.
The reality was: the instrument just sucked. But it was cheap, and that’s what mattered.

As someone who's been homeless, still regularly interacts with and does outreach with the homeless, and wants to see something done about the problem more than anyone:
It is rarely as simple of a problem as "give them all homes," in America at least.
Why?
1) Many of the homeless are extremely mentally ill. Like, unable to really function normally, are sort of informally cared for by mutual aid networks and street support orgs, levels of mentally ill. Many of these people are not equipped to help them with their needs once housed, because then they're behind a door, and have privacy, their problems aren't out in the open, etc. It sounds paradoxical, but it can often be harder to help *housed* people with severe mental illness.
2) Many of them are addicted to drugs and alcohol, to a point they can't function normally. I was at this point once. This goes hand-in-hand with mental illness (coping with mental illness with substances is common), also because it's hard to tolerate being homeless without being loaded constantly.
3) Maintaining a residence in the midst of drug/alcohol addiction, frequently combined with severe mental illness, is nearly impossible.
4) There is not much in the way of structured support for people who need it. Virtually every sort of independent living/group home facility has waiting lists years long.
5) In the absence of government support... well, most aid by private citizens focusses less on sheltering the homeless, and more on meeting their needs. This does not solve the problem long-term, but this is where the focus goes.
6) There are *many* working homeless, living in hotels, etc., barely able to make it on what they make from their jobs, but their accommodations suck them dry. Hotels aren't cheap. It's almost impossible to save for a deposit on a house, even ones who won't ask questions like eviction history, if you are broke as fuck.
7) Government aid is... well, it exists, but oftentimes, more money goes to literally anything else than to helping the homeless. The government's official stance is that homelessness is not a priority problem to solve. That's because the state needs something to hold over people's heads to keep them compliant and from protesting.
