@nprofile…smpn I've seen a few projects rebuild it. A lot of the tools have changed so it's not as easy as building FreeDOS. Plus, FreeDOS has more modern features like ability to work with a USB drive.

@nprofile…yd84 It would be nice to get a group together on Jitsi to discuss building from source code. I tried a few times to get a discussion group going with the Beyond 40 group. If enough permacomputing hobbyists are interested, maybe it's time to try another group meeting online? Anyone else interested in?

@nprofile…6k73 Nice, we should compare notes. I've been rewriting a few core utilities to make it easier to build programs. I have a list of other projects that have written core utilities: https://lmemsm.dreamwidth.org/3000.html You may be able to reuse some code. Elks and Fuzix are really lightweight. I liked some of the Minix 2 utilities for readability.

I'm interested in C/C++ programs and reproducible builds. Do you know of any good ways to connect with others who have similar interests? #permacomputing #retrocomputing

I sent letters to my government legislators regarding negative effects for operating systems from Age Verification laws. Two got no response & one was a generic email about how my elected official was pro child safety. I urge everyone to keep writing their law makers. If this issue goes unnoticed by the general public, these laws will be passed. I've been experimenting with #otk and #PicoGL. I'm trying to see if otk can use PicoGL as a back end in place of a full-fledged #OpenGL implementation. If it works, the otk #GUI library could be used on machines that don't support OpenGL or Mesa including #embedded systems that use #NanoX.

@nprofile…trxq Searching the #unixODBC site, it looks like there was a text/#csv #ODBC driver called #SQI with LGPL license. I'm not seeing the code in the latest version of unixODBC even though the driver is listed at their site. However, much older versions of unixODBC had a txt subdirectory under Drivers with the code. Wonder if anyone's using this driver and how hard it would be to get it built and working. #AskFedi #AskFediverse

There are independent web browser projects that attempt to provide alternatives to the major browsers. Gemini tries to provide a less resource intensive alternative to the web. They're nice ideas but so far, have not broken up the web browser monopoly.
