The onboarding was a bit too technical for my taste. There is way too much detail/visibility for my taste.
But I am liking the categorization engine so far. After a couple of transactions, it quickly pulls the similar ones and I didn't have a false positive even once. I guess, the algo is either very conservative and leaves some out or really good.
It's is alpha stage, so a lot of things can be improved, obviously. For a public alpha, it is solid feel. Really like it.

I have been looking for a large enough display that I can mount on the wall that will act as a family calendar and point of household co-ordination. But the options are non-existent to that price must be a joke. So going to just mount the iPad to wall and call it a day.

Their help pages say they are getting it via the Account Aggregator. They even have a list of banks that’s integrated with AA vs those which are in the process. There was an article in mint where the CEO was talking about the challenges and inconsistencies in the system.
How good is the app? Do you also use it to pull in things like mutual funds and credit cards?

#TIL There is something called the Account Aggregator platform that Govt. of India launched about 3 years ago, for sharing consented financial information.
The first fintech startup to make a personal finance app out of it seems to be https://fold.money/.
As usual, it's India and after 3 years, no bank fully supports anything. Some integrations don't work after 7 PM. Some work only at night, some don't work during weekends..apparently. Unless actually human is running each request as an SQL by hand, I don't understand why these systems need to be this spotty. I know, I know #Security. If the server is not ON at night, how will you hack it?

unfortunately, I don’t use one. So I am not aware that sort of thing.
I use LinkDing for bookmarking, and it has a read/unread flag that you can set. I think, I will use that feature, if I needed one. But AFAIK it’s just links. Not the page content like Pocket.

Family visits and travels followed by sickness has put the kid in a bit of device addiction. It's been really sad to see so much effort get erased in a matter of weeks.
It's even harder to watch a happy, curious kid cry over wanting to sit and stare at a screen instead of zipping around the house doing whatever mischief he could think of.

Was casually looking at the Cloudflare metrics and noticed that the Amazon bot is scraping my Gitea instance like a maniac. So, added a Cloudflare challenge to the domain for all US requests and enabled AI Bot protection for the full domain.
I mean, I don't have anything in my personal Gitea that warrants 19GB of data transfer a month.

One neat thing about #Nomad service discovery and #Traefik support for it is, I don't have to define a public address for things I want to use internally. I simply can access the application at http://my-service if I simply put `<traefik-ip-address> my-service` in /etc/hosts. :)

This part puzzles me as well. Is spc in your requirements file along side the other library and still refuses to resolve? I almost always use pip-tools for managing my requirements.txt with pip-compile. So these issues appear even before I try pip install. Maybe that could help if you are manually creating requirements.txt

Turns out my issue from yesterday wasn't with file ownership. It's to do with file hash changing between versions of Terraform. Because the upstream GZip library changed.
I think I have got it. I understand where the phrase "cutting edge" comes from.

Handled a doozy today. Preliminary debugging shows that, 2-bits flipped and brought down our entire cluster of 5 VMs in AWS.
The 2-bits? VM’s user-data file ownerships.
Someone inexperienced with Terraform seems to have typed in “yes” when it said do you want to change 15 different things when all they wanted was 1 thing changed.
It’s still a theory, I hope it’s a bit more involved than 2-bits

Hello people! My home server was down for maintenance for the last few days.
By which I mean, I had the harebrained idea to upgrade Ubuntu live and broke the system and moved to Debian, and configured things this time using #Ansible.
But, I have to say, #Nomad is an excellent piece of software. Copied the nomad directory from my latest daily-backup and everything came back online. I just needed to update hardcoded Tailscale IPs.

Got a network switch and cleaned up the home server, router and wifi connections a little bit.
It took about 2 hours to get all the services running back up again on the home server. Not at all happy with the amount of things that are hard-coded and monkey patched in the system.
Also starting to find the terraform stuff a bit frustrating. None of the cloudflare DNS records I have imported could be recognized in the new system despite the terraform state being in version control.

ha ha.. I discovered by accident when my current NUC's 128GB drive was getting filled up after I self hosted a bunch of stuff. While trying to upgrade it I discovered that M.2 slots can be used for SSD sticks and it now holds a 1TB stick for all the data and the 128GB disk is just the OS and software.

I opened up the mini PC and discovered that it doesn't have a free M2 Slot like my Intel NUC.
Hmm.. that means, I can't simply pull my M2. SSD Stick and put it the "backup home server" like I envisioned. Oh! my weekend crash testing might have to be scheduled for later with the different plan.... 🤔🫨

Maybe if I could connect the LAN cable and monitor at the same time, this wasn't necessary. But, my monitor and router are in different rooms and neither can be moved. So the home server backup now comes with a desktop environment. #Tradeoff

Hmm. Debian 12 on this mini-pc doesn't automatically connect via the LAN port. I am not sure why. And the USB dongle can't be used becuase things like iw are missing from the minimal install.
So, reinstalling the OS with Cinnamon DE, so that I can do the network setup before I shove it inside the cupboard and do the rest of the stuff via Ansible.

Yeah. Maybe they are including water used to cultivate the food consumed or whatever. Because even my water bill says "aim for 150 litres or less per person" to keep the costs at check.

What the heck are 4000 liters for? A family of 3 here with a baby uses 145 on average. I suspect 40% of it wasted as we need to run the ice cold water from the taps to get some warm water. In the summer I suspect it will be in the 100-110 range.
At 4000 liters/day, I might be paying water bills that far exceed my income.

Pointed the DNS away from wordpress to Github pages. The easy part is done. Now to move all the newer content from wordpress to Github pages.
