All the dark blue areas are high ground, 600-1000m asl. Quite a match with an elevation map.
Ireland has hills, but they are scattered all over. While not an obvious barrier to rain bearing air (it gets to us in southern Scotland) there is plenty of orographic rainfall - seems to rain every time I'm on one of their hills.

Trouble is, for most of my lifetime it has had a benign meaning.
I loathe all these generation names and arbitrary dates - at least the baby boom after WWII was a thing, but all these Preparation, sorry Generation H type names can do one, we are not cicadas
