Good eye. In this case, yes, different branded players had different layouts. The one this mimicks from the early 90s had this as a layout design. Most players, the tape would be reversed - think at the time it was the "ultra low profile head" or whatever it was. Good eye.
In the future, once I release it, I'm going to dive into skins. But, because buttons are interactive, it is a bit of grid mapping and making sure the visuals hold when the device buttons are used.

A quick detail on the background art: if you noticed the belt in the Player view is missing a buckle, or the bedroom in the Cassette Rack feels ambiguous, that’s 100% on purpose.
I didn’t want the imagery to lean toward any specific gender. I want this retro space to represent anyone and everyone. Nostalgia is for all of us, so leaving out those gendered markers means this Walkman belongs to everyone.

I wanted a music player that was both ridiculous and "felt" like a proper Walkman (Player view)...with accurately moving spools, working buttons at the top of the Walkman that control the functions (ff/rewind, toggle fn to change it to <>) Yes, your keyboard media keys controls work.
I am aiming to be as pure to a cassette deck as I can get it. That means no playlists, no cloud, local music and manual selections from the Music Rack like the rock gods intended. 🤘🎧

I have to laugh, because this literally would not have happened had I not have been applying for a permit that was being rejected by the person that we were going through and I did the file myself. The clerk I spoke was quite a bounty of new information.
Got to tell you it's not a silver bullet. It's not necessarily easy. There's still the usual lift but, for someone that is perhaps in between jobs they're looking for work. This is something I would investigate if I was you.

I'm not going to give away too much on this but I will say this.
Document format compliance. Let's just say proprietary software, fails badly at this. Think permits. Think local government documentation rejection rates. You're welcome.
We have local projects that we're working on here at the house and we discovered that I was able to streamline stuff by doing it myself whereas some of the big firms apparently as I was told by a clerk fail often.

Now, as I think about this, something occurs to me.
In marketing circles and in tech circles, I hear about people looking to always close the gap or to find the Gap and there's the gotcha that's going to be the next big thing .
Might I suggest instead of trying to look forward? Maybe we look at some of the more low-tech interactive things that we used to do as the Gap to be solved. I don't know. I'm just pondering random thoughts, don't mind me.

First, yes, someone on Reddit made this with AI. It's message is still valid. How it was made is more irony than anything.
The theme is based in the '90s and they're looking to the Future. They're looking at things that are just foreign concepts to them and I find that interesting and find myself reflecting on that.
I'm a '80s Gen X kid, and this video is more targeted toward millennials, but the point That this video makes is spot on.

I will say that these are extremely powerful little boxes. They're a lot of fun. They're super low profile.
Another great use case for these is definitely going to be in the home lab territory. These boxes are just flawlessly. Great for that in my opinion, but again, I work for Framework. My opinions are biased and so your mileage may vary.

Good questions, however a few things to be aware of
First and foremost, I work for Framework.
Secondly, I have two units.
First box, I use as a daily desktop. I generally am running something Fedora based or occasionally something else arch-based or related. Generally speaking, I found it to be quite robust. It's quite a powerful machine.
The second box, runs headless and does various podman activities with the GPU.

Exactly. Yeah it can be competitive for those who fall into me too food on wheels.
Easier but less glamorous play is to park in a "hot food desert" based on hours of operation and location. Target those in a "I'm hungry" mindset when nothing is open and you're the only game in town with a simple offering. 😊

Also considering opening a food truck again, getting licensing sorted and parking outside of the local factories and refineries during the winter. Bread, chili and soup screams sales (did back in the 90s).
I'm exploring a couple of offline paths for some extra retirement earnings. 😁
One I have (old) experience with, one I'm a bit less familiar with.

Sharp eye, good catch. Determining if I want a moonlight project to test the waters to ease into retirement later or, leave it all until retirement.
Likely happening, I'll ease into it depending on how things play out in life in the next few months. Still sorting this out. Likely just going to poke around and gauge the market surface.
Our local grocery stores and restaurants do seek this stuff out.
I'm not retiring anytime too soon. Folks depend on me at work.

Planning for my retirement in 10+ years. Offline still looks to be a solid play.
Microgreens. HUGE local market gap here. Folks here prefer local, unlike mushrooms and other products grown locally, microgreens is the gap here. We're an agricultural county and folks here have money, expect and pay for local greens.
Just thinking ahead. Could change, but it's something I'm seriously considering as even a moonlight business now. 🤔

I still have some of those old laptops from that era in storage because in my brain I keep thinking you know I might need this someday for some random lightweight distribution of Linux, but that's me being weird.
And no, sadly, I have none of the old batteries for those laptops because that's just an accident waiting to happen leaving those in storage.

Of course. I promised I'd keep things on the down low, however I was told I can say Open Source has to deal with it. And the person in the know, will be getting us an answer soon.
I promised to be careful because it's a lawyer thing and we need lawyers to be speaking on this. Not people that I'm talking to, but they're in the right space. That's all I can say atm, sorry.

Totally get it. NPU support with AMD is super super young. That said, I "believe" the ONNX-formatted Whisper model is "there" and in the experimental stages. So the amdxdna driver is available, just a matter of what libraries are doing what with what. 😎

full disclosure, I don't do a ton of gaming. The personal gaming that I do I do on emulators so you know I do run games for testing but I don't play them to like end of last level type stuff.
It's generally maybe a couple hours here and there when new kernels come out that sort of thing. So keep that in mind as well.

so kind of impossible to answer but also I should acknowledge. That's a really good question despite it being difficult to answer LOL.
So here's the thing, if you can identify where you have a bottleneck then you can identify if upgrading to a faster _____ is worthwhile.
Any performance increase would be negligible strictly for gaming. I don't think it would be worth it in your case strictly for gaming.

One point of consolation while there is a slight delay, I have actually gotten away with running whisper on an XPS 11th gen. Not great but it does work so AMD 7040 is going to be fine.

machines that I have tested for gaming that run well. I would say framework desktop AI 300 Max is a beast. It does very well and of course in the Nvidia side of things, framework 16 with the Nvidia dgpu is also outstanding. So someone deciding to run Bazzite or CachyOS would be in their happy place.

That's a good question. Being honest, I haven't actually tested much gaming on AI 300 for framework 13. However, it is going to be a bit better than 7040 series as it's newer .

One last thing npu for AMD AI300 is where you want to be at for the future. However, development there is still very early, but if you're doing whisper or anything like that potentially in the future you would see some benefit long-term with AI 300 series for whisper .
However, if you're just doing casual stuff, 7040 series is fine, especially for light gaming

if you're looking at older such as older generation Intel as in pre-core ultra. For example, if you do go 13th gen until my recommendation there is to do it on a framework. 12. Great battery life.
It's fun. That would be where I would be. But yeah for 13 in I would be AMD without question but it just really depends on what ecosystem you're looking to live in.

if you can get one on a good buy, the 7040 series is a great laptop so that's always an option too specific can get shape a few bucks off. Otherwise, AI300 is also great.
I'm also super biased so keep that in mind lol.

Hmmm, you talking about 7040 Series or Intel Core Ultra vs AI 300?
If AMD vs AMD, 7040 Series is best for older kernels, AI 300 is basically best for newer.
Being Frank, I tend to bounce between both platforms as I forget which one I'm on unless I actively look whether I'm on 7040 or AI 300 if that gives you any idea.
As for ram, go big if you can lock in those prices now because they're not going to get better and so that'd be my only advice.
