Apparently the batshit insane way Masto search works currently made me think it was literally broken so this is only an additive change.
Real full text search of public posts has not ever existed in Mastodon. Mastodon only lets you search posts you have liked or replied to. Which is absolutely insane because it defeats the entire goddamn purpose of search.

The latest Mastodon beta will completely delete your full text search index if you have full text search enabled.
Then they are forcing users to click a setting five clicks deep in order to “opt-in” to search - when there is already a setting for search engine opt-in.

@npub1jj6…x80f Yeah on UBI this would not be an issue at all, 100% on board.
I'm thinking there are a lot of times where you would really want an operator there (ex. someone on the track or a weird bug happens).
I'm sure there are things that can be done to make their job easier, like a sort-of autopilot system. But do we really want that? That's just going to be used as a justification to pay them lower pay, and those come with their own bugs.

And also, sometimes I disagree with your assessments! Sometimes I disagree with your understandings of systematic oppression and free speech, *especially* when it comes to queer identities like mine! And this kind of behavior doesn't allow me a safe space to talk with y'all and understand you more and pinpoint where I'm wrong without risking me being defederated. Ugh.

Otherwise I have a massive amount of respect for Art, and Oliphant, and a ton of other admins that I draw upon for their work on blocklists, Fediblock, etc. But please I am begging you just raise the bar a little bit, or just limit who you send shit out to.
It is very very very exhausting to hear about this. And to worry that maybe I could be next. That toots I made months ago or content I've made on other platforms is going to be pasted all over the internet forever in a blog post.

It makes my life harder because I have to stay up-to-date on defederations in the Fediverse and I have to read alllll of this shit and form an opinion on it and everything. Because frankly no I am not going to defederate or limit Firefish.Social for example. You know why? Because we barely have any interactions with them and I have seen absolutely no content that violates any of the VERY strict moderation policies (ask my users) we have here.

Our defederation policy at urbanists.social relies on our fellow instances not blocking people for dumb reasons, because generally we don't receive a lot of abuse here directly.
But when admins that I otherwise trust continue to, as far as I can tell, defederate for what are personal conflicts or disagreements or negative interactions between admins, it ruins that shit for everyone.
Stop. It. I do not have the time to read more about this. Just. Stop.

For example, I do not agree with Art's defederation from firefish.social. I think it's kinda dumb. But I've kept that to myself because guess what? It's not my server and I don't have to care. I mute them and move on.
But please for the love of god stop making blog posts and stop dragging up threads tens of messages long with screenshots of 'problematic behavior' for someone that I have never met or cared about
