Friends, I have story. Please laugh with me...
So, someone stopped by a bit ago to pick up some fidgets in person. They looked at me and said, “oh, you look so familiar!” ... I replied, “oh, yeah, I get that a lot." (which is true) and laughed it off.
They then asked, “Are you a nurse? do you work at the (insert hospital name).”
I replied: ... "no.... ... but I am at the hospital often.” (BRITT WHY DID YOU SAY THE QUIET PART OUT LOUD. LMAO)
I then stumbled a bit and made a silly joke about how I am there often for issues related to RA.
What a funny moment. We both laughed a lot.

For the past two years, she’s worked tirelessly every day on her (second!) Master’s Degree as part of a career change. At the end of May, she’ll be completing her year-long Capstone project.
When I became disabled and could no longer work at the same time the world was seeing record inflation — she stepped up for us. :ACNH_Love:
Not only is she brilliant and blowing away the faculty at U of A, she’s a loving partner and part time caregiver (to me). She never complains on my bad days, only smiles and asks, “how can I help?”

PSA: The way you talk about Covid and those with #LongCovid can be hurtful, even if you don’t intend to be. I’ve seen it a lot here lately and it hurts.
You contribute to stigma when you buy into popular assumptions that are parroted on social media:
“If they’d just worn a mask, it wouldn’t have happened to them. It’s their fault.” (assuming they didn’t.)
“If they’d just been healthy before they got sick, eaten right, and exercised, this wouldn’t have happened to them.” (assuming they didn’t.)
“If they’d just try harder to get better and stop focusing on what’s wrong, they’d be fine.”
Ableism can easily creep into our language and our thoughts. It is pervasive.
> I ask you to please be mindful of your language and self reflect.
> *Especially* if you believe you’ve never had Covid and carry that as some sort of badge of honour.
> *Especially* if something inside your mind tells you that it’ll never find you if you just do X,Y,Z.
It can find ANYONE.
It found me despite my best intentions and it’s entirely destroyed my life.
Every. Single. Day. is a fight for survival.
I got it once, and only once.
Be kind.
You never know what burdens others are carrying.

@nprofile…muev I hope Athabasca U will stop using them too… when I had to write remote exams, ProctorU was horrid.
I had accessibility accommodations (ex: screen reader, speech to text) for my exams, and their proctors would verbally interrupt me during exams when I was using the tools… even though the same proctor had just agreed in writing in the chat that I was allowed to use them.
The interruptions felt invasive and discriminatory. TLDR: They’re terrible.

TW: Long personal health update, discussion about autoimmune disease:
My family doctor is ordering new blood tests to look at the possibility that I’m dealing with more than one autoimmune disease. Over 2 years, my treatment has not been successful, and my immune system is rapidly weakening. I’m even more susceptible to infection and flare ups. All of this had slowly worsened since my onset of Long Covid (2023) and its sequelae of cascading health issues.
*long audible sigh*
I expected this day might come. I may seem strong and capable via the internet, but the majority of my days are spent feeling defeated, forced to rest and never doing what I truly want to do. I already dropped out of school. I already have recruited my wife to help with my business. 🤷🏻
I’m nervous but also hopeful we might find something else that, if treated, could help improve my quality of life.
Please cross your fingers for me, as right now I do not have a Rheumatologist and I’m on a long wait list for a new one.

Seeing the USPS increase rates due to a war their country created is infuriating for me, a small Canadian business owner, making extremely slim margins trying to ship items to customers down south.
I had to increase shipping rates to compensate, as I’m unable to absorb the extra 8-10% in shipping costs on top of the stupid tariffs/brokerage fees.

Albert’s renters, can you help?
Our 12 month lease agreement is set for renewal on June 1st, and each year prior we’ve gotten a letter on March 1st to renew.
Nothing yet this year.
What does this mean?
My rental experience has been primarily in BC, and I understand there are many differences here but I’m unsure how to approach this.
Should I assume it’ll go month to month? Should I assume they want us to move out? Should I talk to my landlord?
I don’t want really any of those things so… lol any help is appreciated!

I am stuck with my reading in 2026 and need some help.
I’m dyslexic, and mainly read with the help of audiobooks. Sadly, I’ve only read one book this year but I’ve started at least a dozen… I am having trouble getting anything to stick! I usually read 20-30 books per year - but - I don’t count everything I read because it’s not about numbers for me. I read for information, learning, escapism, and to challenge my own experiences and beliefs.
First: Please recommend authors and series to me for people who cant get into Sanderson. (I *adored* the Mistborn series but can’t get into his other books.)
Second: I can’t read dystopian fiction right now because it’s too close to real life.
Lastly: I like Susanna Clarke, V.E. Schwab, Octavia Butler, M. L. Wang, Ursula K Le Guin, Andy Weir, Kurt Vonnegut, Haruki Murakami, etc. I enjoy satire, humour, historical fiction, fantasy, magical realism. I don’t care for romance, dark themes or harsh environments. I enjoy reading about a strong female protagonist’s journey.

I applied to a handful of Canadian Universities as a transfer student this academic year to prove to myself (mostly, my younger self) that I could it.
I didn’t know if I would switch schools or if we could end up moving, so I threw my hat into the ring across western Canada.
The first acceptance letter arrived today - University of Victoria - my dream. 🌊 🐳 🏔️ 🏝️
🩵 I can’t accept it, but something about knowing I could go if I was able to heals part of my inner child that dealt with so much trauma trying to get through grade school as an undiagnosed autistic with learning disabilities 20-30 years ago. Time is healing ❤️‍🩹

Personally, I’m now strongly seropositive, but I’m absolutely certain I was sero negative for at least 6-7 years before and when I was trying to get care. Then, things got really bad and they finally ordered bloodwork and everything pinged.
Just a quick thought: Have they ever run an anti-CCP for you? When I was formally diagnosed that’s the test that finally showed it was RA, alongside my ANA and CRP elevations, and constantly elevated neutrophils.

Random medical thoughts, medication talk:
When you realize the beta blocker you’ve been on for two years was making your fatigue WAY worse…
Back to the drawing board for treating my #POTS, I suppose.
I don’t want to deal with that extra tired/sluggish feeling, if it’s preventable. Especially on top of my autoimmune issues.
I think one of the hardest parts of #chronicillness is piecing apart symptoms and medication side effects, and then choosing what’s best for your individual needs.

More news out of Alberta, this time more drama at the U of A: They’re axing EDI in their hiring processes. This comes only 6 years after implementing the policy, and one year after renaming it to ACB (Access, Community and Belonging). They’re the first Canadian University to do this.
“I do believe that there's been pressure by the government on post-secondaries to abandon EDI policies,” Gotell said. “Because it's not really clear to me why we would be abandoning a framework that we just put in place six years ago.”

Should I buy the new WoW expansion just so I can buy a plot and decorate my house?? That’s 90% of the reason I play FFXIV. lol

Something I’ve taken to heart while learning to walk through life with multiple disabilities is to try to reclaim my creativity. It’s something I can control. A place of comfort. Be creative in any way possible. Be true to the playful kid within me. :chickArtist:

@nprofile…jvmr it definitely is, they marked it as a gift on Etsy. I always check in with buyers that do that, so they understand it just means that Etsy generates a gift receipt… and I ask if they want that gift receipt in the box or not and if they want my business card and sticker or not. Just a friendly extra step to make sure folks are happy.
Etsy also offers gift wrapping, which I don’t do because I’m the worst at wrapping 😂😂

If you’re open to it, I’d love to know why you love the city so much. Was it a particular area? An experience? A meaningful trip?
I miss San Francisco deeply. Although I didn’t live directly in the city, I could get there in 30 mins or less when I lived in Cali for 8 years. Such a majestic place.

Etsy removed 25 of my listings for using the terms' ADHD' and 'Autism’ in the keywords for my listings. (These are not seen by customers and are only used to help me be seen in search results)
They said that it goes against their ‘medical terminology' rules. It's a KEYWORD. I didn't claim that anything I sell cures anything, ffs. There is also no way to appeal.
Go fuck yourself, Etsy.
Into the sun.
I'll be building something else as an alternative now. That’s ludicrous considering the types of listings they allow on their website.
