I've been reminded of a Maxis game that I really wanted to play back in 1993/94 - Sim Life.
Genetic Engineering was the hot new pop science thanks to Jurassic Park, so yeah, it definitely was a good time for Maxis to put out something that lets you tinker with the stuff of life itself... and make all kinds of strange chimaeras.
The cover for Sim Life itself is one of the most nostalgic for me, it captured my attention like little else at the time.

Greets come with something that was a bit of a droolsome thing for a teen Sharka seeing them advertised and demoed on Bad Influence: The Amstrad Mega PC!
DOS gaming AND Mega Drive gaming? All wrapped up in the beige-iest of boxes and controllers?
Damn cool then and still today!
The PC side clocked in at a 25mhz 386SX, 1MB ram, and 40MB HDD - not the snappiest of specs for 1993, but there was some wiggle room for what it came with. And at a price of £500-600 in the UK, similar to some of Amstrad's other budget PCs, it was a viable option for a best-of-both-worlds and to get in on DOS gaming without forking out a thousand or more.

@npub1fkl…7udr A lot of that is 2nd Edition AD&D ruleset weirdness, yeah. With THAC0 and AC and the amount of resting needed - all very arcane and clunky now.
3rd Edition onward streamlined and refined the ruleset as D&D started getting more and more mainstream play and attention and it's continued into the current 5E that BG3 is based on. You'd likely enjoy it a lot more.
