So, BJP won Bengal with a landslide.
Mamata Banerjee joined the list of regional leaders who lost the state elections to BJP (like Kejriwal).
These leaders used to think they can defeat the BJP on their own without supporting the Congress party.
It's time to get disillusioned with the idea that BJP can be challenged without a united opposition and to revive the INDIA alliance which worked well for a few months that it held up together during the run-up to the 2024 elections.
They need to realize who the enemy is.
We could learn from the history. The united opposition defeated Indira Gandhi in 1977.
In 1989, the opposition stopped Congress from forming the government. BJP united with the left to achieve that. This is the understanding and political maturity required right now from the opposition.
If that doesn't happen, the way things are, both the opposition and the democracy (whatever is left of it) in India will be over. It is because BJP is ruthless and will leave no stone unturned in making an opposition free nation.
Yes, the playing field was not even in the elections, but we need to accept that the fight against BJP is going to be unfair. The opposition cannot wait for the playing field to be even.
For people like us, we need to enroll ourselves in the electoral rolls, go out and vote for the party which can defeat BJP in the elections. And also to convince people already against the BJP to vote in a united manner.

I started announcing my OpenPGP key in #Dino recently. Since then, Dino asks for my key passphrase every time I open the app.
I am using Debian Trixie with KDE. My friend @npub1fw5…p4dp who uses GNOME and also announcing his keys doesn't have to enter the passphrase though. He got an option to save the password in the password manager, which I didn't.
I have attached pictures of my screen and my friend's so that you can compare.
Let me know how can I fix this. Is it specific to KDE?

I have managed to get myself in the electoral rolls for my state elections. I mean I have already voted in elections but the recent SIR and voter list manipulations in #India means getting our name in the voter list is itself a battle.
Don't underestimate the power of your vote and try your best to be in voter lists😀

A couple of days ago, my email account was suspended by @npub1stq…pm75 and was reinstated within 24 hours after some back and forth with their support team.
I have written a blog post describing the incident here https://ravidwivedi.in/posts/suspension-of-my-riseup-account/, along with suggestions to improve Riseup's policies.
I hope this catches the attention of someone from #Riseup.
That said, spam sign-ups are a challenge, and I am curious to know how other providers like #Disroot or #Autistici handle them.

As an example, the vote share of BJP in Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh was the same in 2024 and 2014 (around 42%). But they won 71/80 seats in 2014 in UP, while 33 seats out of 80 in 2024.
Same vote share, but drastically different results due to anti-BJP forces uniting in 2024.

In short, we need to target the 64% and convince them to vote for the lesser evil. To vote for a party which can defeat the BJP.
I saw a lot of people criticize BJP but don't even go to vote or don't care enough to be in the electoral rolls. Some of my friends whom I talked with weren't even in their town on the day of the voting. We need to raise awareness about all this so that people plan ahead and make sure they vote.

We can already see what happens when the opposition unites and people opposing BJP unite from the 2024 election results. BJP's vote share only fell by 0.8% (37.36% in 2019 vs 36.56% in 2024), but they were reduced to 240 seats and no longer wield a majority on their own.
I am simplifying a bit, but we can see it as a result of unification of anti-BJP forces, which helped in depriving BJP of a majority in Lok Sabha, despite BJP almost retaining its vote share.

I think removing the BJP government (through democratic means) should be the priority. Indian democracy is in danger and have already fell down in the last decade. Do you agree with this?
Keep in mind that BJP got 36.56% votes in 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and it is possible to vote in a way to remove them from power. 64% of people still don't vote for the BJP.

My bank website doesn't allow me to copy and paste my password during login. I don't know why, and I think that such a restriction leads to users creating insecure passwords. so that they can type themselves.
Anyways, I use a password manager to create random passwords. I tried Don't Fuck With Paste extension in LibreWolf/Firefox and still can't paste my password on my bank's login page (I did add the bank site to the pattern in the extension).
Any suggestions on extensions or otherwise?

My parents use #Quicksy and #Prav to communicate with me on #XMPP for around 3 years now. Think of how significant that has been in terms of privacy.
Before @npub1kx0…hnqj told me about Quicksy (and @npub1eyk…ndu6 was not a thing before 2022), I tried to onboard them to #Matrix and XMPP using Element and Conversations respectively.
However, the on boarding was complicated for them (people are not used to remembering usernames and passwords anymore).

I am impressed by how lightweight #XMPP is. Most of time, I am not able to open even simple websites on my mobile data while in underground #Delhi metro, but XMPP messages go through immediately.
On a related note, I remember having internet issues in my previous phone a couple of years ago after switching to Lineage OS. Matrix, websites etc. didn't use to work. But XMPP messages used to go through fine.

I presented #Prav today at #BiharFOSS. The interactive demo suggested by @npub1lfv…30kl and @npub1fw5…p4dp was simple for newbies to understand and made the talk interactive.
The idea was to get two volunteers from the audience, one having #WhatsApp and the other using #Telegram, followed by asking them to send a text from WhatsApp to Telegram. After this, get a volunteer with non-Airtel number to send an SMS to me (as I use Airtel), illustrating federation nicely.

#Prav is a messaging app in which messages are encrypted by default. This is verifiable as the source code is available for public scrutiny.
While #WhatsApp claims their messages are end-to-end encrypted, those claims cannot be verified independently because they do not provide their source code.

I think it depends on number of users (or size) on the instance. Hosting XMPP alone does not cost much (I ran a personal server for 10 USD per year on Racknerd).
I guess the bulk of costs are due to Matrix being resource intensive which increases the server specs requirements. Our poddery server has around 2 TB space, for example. Recently I bought #FLX1 phone by #FuriLabs. It runs on #FuriOS.

I didn't do any software/firmware update, neither connected the device via cable. I did a reboot but that didn't fix the issue.
However, reinstalling the app fixed the issue.
