GM Nostr friends. Happy Monday.
We struck out hard at almost all the things we planned on yesterday. The booya was already sold out by the time we got there. The craft fair where I intended to visit a coworker was filled with a bunch of ....well, Hubby put it, "my anti-people". And I couldn't even find her. And then we went to a small farmer's market nearby where I got a delicious honey vanilla latte, but then Hubby got mad at me ("too much kitschy crap") for buying a $3 little key chain that said, "Crazy Plant Lady". Sigh.
I did get some canning cucumbers and fresh dill and made some refrigerator pickles. Very excited to see how they turn out. I only had ground versions of most of the ingredients for the pickling spices, so I'm a little worried I overdid it. We'll see in a week or two!

Man, today flew by. Lu has been sick again, so hoping to get her in to see the vet and possibly have an ultrasound to figure out what is going on with her sad little tummy. I watched her throw up her entire breakfast this morning, and then she was so hungry a few hours later. Fingers crossed that she can keep some food down. Poor old girl doesn't have the calories spare.
Friday I went to campus and picked up the dual monitors they ordered for me, so my grown up desk is now complete. Hubby helped me move my old extra wide monitor over to the other end of the desk for my personal use, and then got everything else set up for work on the left. Feels so nice to have room to spread out, although I'm still getting used to having multiple screens.

(I did have to do a date calculator, but worth it.) My grandmother used to have some string wrapped around the bottom of her ring because it was too big. Wore it that way for so long that it turned into a little fiber glob that never came off.

Good afternoon/evening Nostr friends! We're mostly through our Alaskan cruise. Today we're in Ketchican, our last port. Tomorrow is cruising all day, and Saturday morning we arrive back in Vancouver to disembark. One more day in Canada, then home. It's been a bit too much people time, but the views have been gorgeous. I even got to pet a black bear! ☺️

With all the excitement, I forgot to share with you all - that interview I did early last week? I got the job! Found out at the very end of Thursday afternoon.
I start on July 20th! I'll be working as a business analyst yet, but for a completely different department within the University. My friend works as the project manager for the team; it will be so lovely getting to work with her again.
Feeling so blessed right now, but nervous at the same time. I have a meeting with my (current) boss first thing tomorrow morning to tell him. We've never really gotten along - long story there - but I do feel bad leaving the team at a time where we're really busy. I will not be sad to get away from him, but I basically grew up with the people in this department.
Anyhoo, exciting.

How on Earth did I somehow end up getting notifications from the latest Hell thread? I'm not a part of the cool kids club, never have been. 🤓
The last two weeks have been very stressful - both work and life-wise. Hubby's mom's house has a buyer, but with the contingency that we get the old well capped off. That's had a ton of issues (something far down is completely stuck, so they have to bring in heavy equipment to try and get it out). Hubby is stressed to the max because of it.
He is picking his mom up to go do the signing and complete their part of the closing today, so that's going to be an amazing stress off his shoulders. The well still has to be finished before the buyer signs off, but he's willing to wait.
I had my interview for my friend's team on Monday, after only learning about it and getting it scheduled this past Friday. The weekend was packed so I had no time to prep. Sweating bullets waiting to hear back.
There have been been constant meetings for the new fed regs going into place July 1. With being in meetings and sort of having to pay attention, that leaves little to no time to actually DO things. I was so stressed that I actually gave myself hives on my arm, chest, and back this week. UGH.
Here's to a quieter Thursday.

Pour half of a protein shake over a half cup of oats and add in a cup of frozen blueberries = breakfast! (Also coffee, but that's separate.)
I've been noticing silver strands starting in my hair the last year or so. Hard to believe I'm (approaching) middle aged. Seems like my 20s were just yesterday. Still, wouldn't go back. So much life and learning has happened since then.
End of this month is my birthday. I've always loved June. My parents made it feel extra special when I was a kid. This will be my first birthday with both of them gone now.
Well anyway, enough mauldin thoughts. The birds are chirping praise to our Creator, the sun is shining, Lu is on the mend (it's a respiratory infection of a different flavor - not kennel cough as we expected), and my coffee is cold and delicious. Enjoy your Wednesday, all.

No meetings on the calendar today. Hallelujah! It's been a week that leaves me feeling like my brain is wrapped in wet wool at the end of each day. Very much looking forward to a day where I can actually get some stuff done.
Hubby and I are talking about driving somewhere and going biking for a few hours this weekend. Hopefully the weather holds out.
I applied for a position on my friend's team yesterday afternoon. It's another business analyst job, so that wouldn't be any difference, but possibly more pay and I'd be outside the financial aid world for the first time in my whole work life. Would be a challenge, but I'm very hopeful I can get it. 🤞

I couldn't figure out why yesterday and this morning I was only seeing my own posts and nothing else. Somehow, all my follows got wiped again. Sigh. This is getting irritating. Thankfully I had saved a backup. 🤨😠
Laundry is in the wash currently thumping around. No coffee today, but a cold can of yerba mate with mint followed by a Irish cream flavored mug of Teecino. Lu is going to get a bath and haircut this afternoon, so soon no more fuzzy baby - just slightly bewildered pup with a summer 'do. She always looks about 1/4 of her size after a cut. I miss her face fuzz, but much easier to clean up after dinner.

I discovered the Denali National Park's sled dog puppy cam this morning, and have been watching that instead of working. (Oops.) The pups are so sweet. No way would I want to deal with a puppy in the house (Lu has been having stomach issues daily, including puking in front of me this morning before I could get her outside), but I would love to go play with a pup for a bit.

It's trash day, so listening to the cacophony (man, I had trouble spelling that) of banging and crashing and brakes squealing outside right now.
I've been waking up 30-45 minutes before my alarm is set to go off every day for probably about the last week. Not sure what that's about - I just open my eyes, and I'm wide awake. It's a new sensation.
Hubby and I took our new bikes for a spin last night, which turned into a five mile ride because we just wanted to see where a trail ended. On the ride home we took some different twists and turns, and I almost un-alived myself by taking a turn a bit too fast that had some dirt, leaves, and little bits of branches strewn across the road. As it happened, I went off the path and almost hit a tree before I was able to get my feet down and throw myself and the bike off to the left. Didn't fall off, but I did get whipped in the butt by some foliage on the way down. Thankfully Hubby was ahead of me and didn't see it happen. 😩
Overall it was a ton of fun. We're planning to do some day trips to put some miles on and see the sights. I'm looking forward to it!

Come say hi on Reticulum! I have it running in a tab during the day, so if I don't respond immediately, I will within a short time.
It's a little overwhelming at first, but I did some reading and it seems to follow the same idea as Meshtastic, which I've had a bit more experience with. Reticulum is able to bridge different mediums to send and pass along messages, which is the main difference when viewed from 10,000 ft above!

Nope, I don't believe that! It's basically decentralized nodes passing along notes to each other. Kind of like kids in school passing notes - it originates at A, gets handed "across the aisle" B to C to D, etc until it reaches its destination. The note is encrypted as it moves. Same idea for mesh networks as with Nostr. Anyone can run a node to pass and receive messages.

I've been getting into Reticulum the last few days, particularly MeshChatX which includes the Nomad Network. Still trying to figure out the basics in relation to my (somewhat limited) understanding to Meshtastic, but having fun with it.
Got my own instance hosted on my Umbrel since it became available recently. Anyone else on Reticulum? I'd like to try it out.

I had to sign into work this morning to deal with a failure for a process I support, so while I'm waiting for the run to finish processing, here I am.
Coffee in hand, Hubby working for a while at his mom's house, laundry waiting to be folded. Our two year anniversary is tomorrow, so we're going to go see Project Hail Mary at the theater tonight. I haven't been to see a movie in ages, so I'm very much looking forward to our date night.

I keep hearing this weird sound outside, almost like a bird flapping its wings to ruffle up its feathers, if said bird were made out of plastic. Finally looked outside, and there's a shredded up plastic bag stuck high up in the branches of a neighbor's tree, and the wind has been catching it. Mystery solved!
My hands are healing up nicely from my stumble on Monday. The right palm has a pretty solid scab on it that stretches and breaks a little when I lay my hand flat, so that's not fun.
Bingo with a group of friends tonight, and I'm definitely looking forward to it. This has been a rough week at work.

Junky candy (Reese's, about a dozen Andes mints), restaurant food (although my meals were delicious), and ice cream. I did fit some salads in there too, but mostly just garbage calories that taste good but do nothing other than push my weight back up.

Tripped and fell over my own feet walking Lu this morning. (I was wearing sandals, so I blame them.) I took several steps trying to avoid a collision with the ground, and lost. Scraped up both palms, and landed hard on my right hip and shoulder, and definitely strained the muscle going from my wrist to my right thumb. Nothing seems to be broken, so I just limped home and cleaned out my abrasions. Still....ow.
Must be Monday.

Believe me, I wish I had an answer! I've prayed about it so much, and things will be good for a while. Lu is going to be 14 years old next month. She's potty trained, except for when she gets upset for being left alone for hours at a time.
The situation is so blown out of proportion. She pooped, I cleaned it up, should be the end of the story. She's a dog, and is not going to understand. I've tried to explain that.

I'm not going to disagree. It's frustrating for me because it's not a big deal in the least so I don't understand. I feel for him, as he loves me but never signed up for being a dog step-father. My dog is the child of my heart and I want to protect her as well. It's not a great situation.

Yesterday morning, my thinking prior to leaving for church: Hm, things have been going well with leaving Lu for a few hours while we're at church.
Lu (thinking): I'm done being a good girl for today.
*Myself and Hubby checking on Lu via camera before church starts, note that kennel door is somehow open and Lu is nowhere in sight*: 🤨🤔😒🙄
Upon returning home, we find she managed to not only get out of her kennel, but poop outside her diaper on top of my heating pad (thankfully the diaper caught her pee), which was folded up on the floor near Hubby's couch. Commence him freaking out (he is a germaphobe, and barely handles having the dog around at all) while I try desperately to balance Lu being terrified out of her mind while he yells at her and clean up the mess.
No way he would allow me to just clean and wash the heating pad, it had to be thrown out and then he was pissed the rest of the day, insisting the house smelled like dog poo even after I sprayed everywhere and lit a candle.
I really hate Sundays.

Sipping my plain (bland, boring, acidic k-cup) coffee this morning for Day 3 of my new Intermittent Fasting process. Made it 18 hours yesterday, hoping to get to 20:4 for my ratio and just see how I feel. So far, it's been pretty good. I feel energetic and once the hunger pains go away, it's not hard at all. We'll see if I stick with it long-term. I do love breakfast.
Other than that, it's Friiiiiiiiday! Hubby purchased the audiobook of Project Hail Mary some time ago, so I'm listening to it now. Pretty dang great story so far. Lots of humor, and even if I don't follow most of the science-y stuff, it's still very well written. Hopefully I can finish it while the movie is still in theaters!

Well, Snowmageddon 2026 didn't happen. We're supposed to continue getting snow through the later evening, but it's mostly done. All said, we got probably about 11", which is nothing to sneeze at. Hubby is still disappointed. 😜
Made a roast in the crockpot and just finished dinner. It was delicious. Lu was quite upset we didn't share, but Hubby made it with french onion soup mix so she would've been sick. I still feel bad telling her no - she went to the end of the couch and pouted and wouldn't respond.
Watching a Banana Ball game - Coconuts vs Clowns - to round out a pretty good weekend.

Finally Saturday! Last night I went to dinner and bingo with some friends, and had a great time. Didn't get home until almost 10pm, which is crazy late for me. Hubby was so sweet - I did some of my laundry earlier in the day, and he took it out, folded, and put most of it away. Also cleaned up around the house and took Lu out. It was lovely.
Oh, and I also won $100. NBD. ☺️
Today so far has been some chores around the house while listening to the Once We Were Spacemen podcast. Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion just chatting with each other and guests? Sign me up.
Trying to get some of my dad's saved recipes and old photos sorted and scanned this morning so I can have them for always. Lots of feels, but I mostly made it through without any tears, so props to me!

I had a tough last couple days. Hubby and I have butted heads many times over Lulu. Monday night he was in a bad mood already due to some miscommunication between us earlier about the dog earlier in the day. We ended up working it out by bed time, but it was still tense for several hours that wore on us both. I ended up bawling, because this is the kind of thing I used to talk through with my dad, so I just ended up missing him intensely in addition to being stressed out.
Tuesday morning I wasn't feeling good in the stomach region, and ended up losing it all over the carpet and bathroom. Literally the worst mess I've ever had to clean up, and it was my own doing. Nothing like trying to clean your own vomit out of the carpet when you already don't feel well! https://dl.vanderwarker.family/images/nostr/emojis/blob/blobimfine.png Now our carpet is permanently stained. I just ordered a runner rug to cover it up until we eventually get it replaced.
Feeling better today after a decent sleep. Nice to have some calories in my system too. I still have to look at the carpet and feel awful about it, though.
Every day is a new day, right? Just trying to get through a tough start to the week. Hope everyone is having a decent week.

We're looking at settling somewhere in the SW states once we retire. I hate spiders, and my husband absolutely loathes mice. I think between all the snakes and scorpions is the sweet spot!
There's a trade off wherever you go. I've never had to think about creepy crawlies hiding in my shoes, but I've also been stuck in heavy snow and had to deal with incredibly cold conditions. We also get the millions of mosquitoes and really humid/hot summers - especially the last few years.
Transparent scorpions though...that'd be a new one. I know I'd probably freak out if something moved really fast in the bathroom in the middle of the night while I was still half asleep!

GM Nostr friends!
Hubby has nothing to do at work today, so he decided to stay home and get some things done around here and at his mom's house. He just came in while I was browsing my Nostr feed and gave me a neck massage. I could get used to this!
We watched the first Banana Ball game on Youtube last night, and it was awesome. (Baseball is the one sport I will watch on the regular and actually know something about. Good memories as a kid of sitting with my dad while he explained the rules and we watched hours of the Minnesota Twins.)

I've been having variations of this dream for years now. Always me wandering around in some kind of parking garage looking for my car, so I figured it was something with transport or freedom. Identity and paths are an interesting idea, I need to think about that some more. 🤔

#AskNostr What's the best non-KYC option for buying bitcoin using US-based options? (Venmo/Cash App/Zelle)
I was using BitcoinWell, but even if they're non-custodial, they're still KYC.
RoboSats very rarely has any offers with payment options I can use. I'm not signing up for Strike, and I for sure will not buy USDC or Monero just to swap for BTC.
