today i are mostly looking for reasons why i should *not* use #Proton Mail (probably Unlimited plan for VPN and Drive too; possibly Duo if my sister's still using her address on my domain too, which I don't think she is)
Existing mail: Gmail
Existing calender: iCloud
Existing VPN: None (but in UK so 🤬)
Existing drive: iCloud, Nextcloud (would keep both anyway)
Existing passwords: 1Password
Existing authenticator: Google

hate what they stand for, but Maga/TeaParty tactics were bloody brilliant. they achieved everything they wanted, all the impossible things.
... after years of primarying the GOP candidates who wouldn't ban abortion (but voting GOP in generals regardless), they got the ones that would, and then it happened. For instance.

i wonder... how is this not news? are the news media unaware of this?
are they banking it to take him down when they decide it's time to take him down - if he should do or say anything positive for trans people for instance?

so they’re floating #trump running for a third term on the theory that 22nd amndmnt forbids 3 *consecutive* terms.
if he does that, the obvious person to run against him is Barack Obama (still 17 years younger). there's no argument that could allow trump to do it that doesn’t also allow Obama to.
it won't happen: trump won't be alive in four years, and if he is, 25th amndmnt will probably have been triggered.
but just making that counter-threat ought to shut it down.

er, that seems to have introduced a bug: When typing new text at the end of a paragraph that's fully-justified, when the text crosses over the halfway point along the line, it keeps trying to justify the (incomplete, last) line on typing each space.
Excuse typing errors, it's really made me self-conscious how frequent they are, but...

huh. i've not seen this. (MBP M1Pro, Sequoia Beta, Fedora Asahi Remix in Gnome 46). Brightness control always just worked; but I suppose being a laptop it probably just so happened that I'd shut the lid at least once before changing brightness.
be nice if Night Light worked though. 😅 (says lack of driver support prevents it)

I don't believe the swing voters are real. If the GOP was still a normal party, sure, but they're not, and anyone who can look at them now and still be sucking their thumbs going "ooh, i don't know..." isn't worth bending your ticket out of shape for. The Dems need most of all to get out the progressive vote, with enough enthusiasm and numbers to drown the attempts at vote suppression from the other side.

if that's the behaviour it's also misnamed. Followers only should *mean* followers only.
i want to think it's a bug. because it's mis-named, as if the mismatch between name and function isn't deliberate. Maybe submit it as a simple bug report on that basis. 😅
