Fun waking up this morning to learn that ATProto is [being built with tons of code from AI](https://bsky.app/profile/why.bsky.team/post/3meomclcfss2w ). "In the past two months Claude has written about 99% of my code," says a Technical advisor at Bluesky.
With how unstable a lot of things have been on the platform lately, this makes a loooot of sense. Wild someone can openly brag about just not doing their job. This leaves me pretty darn corncerned for ATProto's future.

Today is the day the Black Panthers were founded. As a disabled person, I'm going to remember how the coalition they built with Disabled people and their support during the 504 protests are the reason we even have the ADA today.
As a gay person, I'm going to remember how Huey Newton gave speeches to defend gay rights and how the Black Panther movement literally changed minds during the civil rights movement on how gay people were perceived.
And I'm going to think of the Black Panthers who NEVER CAME HOME to fight that fight for us and thank every power I know they made that sacrifice.

Brutally difficult in current times to see posts from folks saying, "there's room for everyone at the table, we need you" when for the last several years, most have made it clear I'm unwelcome in any capacity by refusing to wear masks so I can participate safely.
I used to be on the front line in marches. They'd line up disabled folks because it was bad optics for the cops to beat the shit out of us. I still got my share of bruises back then too.
Society has moved in such a direction that this is no longer an effective protest tactic. That's how much disabled people are reviled now.
You want a trans gal in a wheelchair to go to a protest, get her chair broken, get thrown into cells with dangerous men on purpose, just for you to not even wear masks to the damn protest? There's no not getting tracked from a protest when you use a wheelchair! You're extremely identifiable.
And sadly, a ton of society is disabled in some capacity now. There's less folks than ever than can even manage to hit the streets and it not destroy their bodies. I really hope folks wake up to that reality sooner rather than later.

Yes, this is in response to it being "hate Mastodon o'clock" on Bluesky today.
There are valid complaints about Mastodon and the Fediverse, we all know that. But what makes people think Mastodon is so off putting? It's because we care, a LOT.
Making fun of the CW culture here? They don't wanna admit it makes them feel bad they don't care about hurting people as much as we do.
We're a "no fun brigade?" Not only have they clearly not seen the fire shitposting on here, but they feel bad they don't actually care about serious issues like we do enough to do something. P.S. You aren't gonna convince local governments, politicians, or big brands to seriously use this place and spin up their own instances. And love it or hate it, people WANT to interact with big brands and be a part of pop culture discussions. So unless fedi decides they want that too, this place is never replacing mainstream social media. Not till the entire world shifts culturally in a huge way.

There are reasons I ADORE fedi and will keep using it. But truthfully, I think it's time we stop pandering to crowds we stand no chance at attracting until problems get fixed.
If smaller servers formed a federation of their own to put pressure on Mastodon and .social to actually make changes marginalized folks keep asking for? Actually threatened mass defederation from .social to leave them alone on an island to make their own thing? Maybe we'd see an uptick in popularity as people show interest.
Till then, this place will be its own quite successful niche, never a true "Twitter replacement." And honestly, I don't think many users actually want this to be a Twitter replacement anyways. with how they act.

They had a few days tops to look and decide where they wanted to be. People didn't want to waste them on figuring out how/where they should join.
Hell, first time joiners don't know about the various dramas between popular instances either. You wanna know why so many choose .social? Because they don't have to figure out which server defederated which when they wanna talk with their friends. (Info they basically can't find reasonably without already being active here.)
Example, where do you post about anime on Lemmy? Choose the most searchable server, you'll find a dead sub with moderator drama. You have to be in the know to find ani.social.

It's likely if they had actually chosen Mastodon, they'd have gone to .social anyways. So they probably made the right decision in terms of moderation, tools available to them to find old friends from Twitter, and features they care most about.

Okay, I caved and hosted up OwnCast on a cloud server service which actually WAS extremely easy. Just one issue...
