Study after study has shown there are community-wide increases in stress and anxiety, substance addiction, and relationship breakdown after a disaster like fires or floods. Even heatwaves impact on mental health and experiences of violence.
Action on climate change will reduce stress, anxiety, grief, social isolation, experiences of violence, and substance use disorders. We also need more community mental health services or existing needs.

Good morning Fediverse.
I woke up to a text that my train home is now a rail replacement coach, and I am quite grumpy about that.
My order of preference for travel is train, then plane, then bus.
Trains to Canberra replaced by buses for the entire week, otherwise I would have just changed my booking and got a train tomorrow.

I want to stop using Spotify, and instead buy albums so I can download MP3s. I already own lots of what I listen to regularly, I’ve just been streaming because it’s easier than organising downloaded music files. I mostly listen on my iPhone, sometimes on my MacBook.
What app do you use to organise and play your downloaded music files? Is Apple Music the only good option? What’s good / not so good about what you use?

I listen to a LOT of music. I have a soundtrack constantly playing in my head when I’m not listening to music. Spotify says 17,653 minutes in 2024, up to 6 hours a day, putting me in the top 21%.
Each song averages 20 listens a year. But I do get obsessive: there was one song I listened to more than 120 times in 2024. I’m in the top 2-5% of Taylor Swift listeners each year.

some of the things we fixed in that mainframe system I worked on would have stopped the poorest people in Australia getting paid at a time of year when domestic violence, drug and alcohol health impacts, mental illness, and homelessness have their annual peaks. Every minute that we spent fixing those things was well worth it, for the people who depended on that system, for the managers responsible for seeing it run well, and for the broader community. I'd do it again without question.

ACT Greens want to do free public transport for under 18s, and free for pension and low income concession card holders. And concession fares for part time uni students as well as full time. You’d still tag on/off but you wouldn’t be charged, so we’d have the trip data for better route planning still.
