Definitely! It's also an ad infested hell hole at this point. I use it to message my family and that's about it. Avoid adding personal information (particularly location) as much as I can.

The Threads app seems awful - have to have an Instagram account to sign up. Can only access via 1st party app and not the web. Tons of crappy ads. Can't delete unless you also delete your Insta account. Seems like just another way to turn people into products (by tracking, general privacy invasion, and target ads).
Threads is a no thanks for me.

Oh right on! I can usually only do that on weekends, but it's one of my favorite things. I'll be taking a 20 minute walk at lunch then a 40 minute walk after work. Reading some non fiction before bed too.

Fiat analogy - would it be like taking $20 cash out of an atm, spending it, then the person you paid spending it and so on, until later someone else puts the same $20 back in the bank so it is accounted for at the end of the day, but the bank doesn't know what happened with the cash in between?

Nostr - help me understand the lightening network. Why is it cheaper and faster than "regular" bitcoin? I read a few articles so I sort of understand it as a "second layer" on top of the existing bitcoin network. So does it skip the proof of work algorithm? What prevents a dpuble spend?

I'm not really into crypto but I joined Nostr becsuse the more "mainstream" social media platforms are appealing to me less and less. I like the decentralized platform here, which lends itself freedom of speech. On YouTube for example, creators can get demonotized just for swearing.
