Definitely! It's also an ad infested hell hole at this point. I use it to message my family and that's about it. Avoid adding personal information (particularly location) as much as I can.

The Threads app seems awful - have to have an Instagram account to sign up. Can only access via 1st party app and not the web. Tons of crappy ads. Can't delete unless you also delete your Insta account. Seems like just another way to turn people into products (by tracking, general privacy invasion, and target ads).
Threads is a no thanks for me.

This is why we should all be more concerned with privacy... (Yes, the NSA is probably already doing this).

Is Musk actually trying to kill Twitter with the 300 views a day?

Oh right on! I can usually only do that on weekends, but it's one of my favorite things. I'll be taking a 20 minute walk at lunch then a 40 minute walk after work. Reading some non fiction before bed too.

I love the Led Zeppelin one! Unfortunately tney usually put these in bars or arcades where it's too loud to actually hear the music coming out of thr pinball machine.

Fiat analogy - would it be like taking $20 cash out of an atm, spending it, then the person you paid spending it and so on, until later someone else puts the same $20 back in the bank so it is accounted for at the end of the day, but the bank doesn't know what happened with the cash in between?

I have a lot to learn. I didn't even know what lightning was before I joined Nostr.

Nostr - help me understand the lightening network. Why is it cheaper and faster than "regular" bitcoin? I read a few articles so I sort of understand it as a "second layer" on top of the existing bitcoin network. So does it skip the proof of work algorithm? What prevents a dpuble spend?

I'm not really into crypto but I joined Nostr becsuse the more "mainstream" social media platforms are appealing to me less and less. I like the decentralized platform here, which lends itself freedom of speech. On YouTube for example, creators can get demonotized just for swearing.

It is a little harder to find on mobile, but using this link and scrolling all the way to the bottom there is a "donate in crypto" option

Great guide for how to get less ads and trackers, and more privacy on firefox. (note you may have to change some cookies settings if you don't want to have to reauthetnicate your accounts every time you log in).

If you have a spare laptop or desktop (or even raspberry pi!) gathering dust, this would be a very cool system to install - either to keep for reference or give to a kid for education. TLDR - Offline capable enclyclopedia, entertainment, and reference material.
