Tax breaks for US billionaires & benefit cuts for UK disabled is profoundly immoral. Undermining UK's creative industries to benefit parasitic US AI industry is a self-destructive betrayal. Grovelling to Trump for shitty US trade deal that will undermine UK producers, while cold-shouldering EU, is utterly shameful. Starmer is profoundly disappointing as a prime minister who refuses to lead and stands for nothing in the face of billionaires and oligarchs.

Yet the majority of white women voted for Trump. God knows what they were thinking.

Aha, just saw this post, where people have added their criticism of the survey.😬

I'm a "data engineer" with very little web frontend experience (from over a decade ago). What are the things in this survey that you feel are so grim?
As an outsider, there are few surprises here, except that after all these years, still nothing has really replaced the horrors of JavaScript.😉
But what do I know, right?

This is the album that opened my ears to jazz. Really a before/after moment.
There's a nice BBC radio "Soul Music" episode about "So what" too.

On that "significant swathe": scientist Karen Stenner has done lots of research on authoritarianism. She finds that around a third of people (on left and right) are naturally predisposed to support this kind of thing. "Populist" right seem to be good at securing this electoral base. I guess the goal has to be to peel off the less committed authoritarians. Maybe Harris and Walz deploying humour, mockery and above all hope is the way to achieve this.

OTOH my sister-in-law had headaches and other symptoms. Called 111 and was told to rest and take paracetamol. She died of a brain haemorrhage a few days later. Nobody in our family is ever going to trust 111.

My 80+ aunt & uncle in Wales effectively have no NHS GP now because it's impossible to get face to face appointments & practice often offers only online appts. They are excluded from the services they need because they cannot master the technology their GP is hiding behind. So now they have to pay for a private GP where at least they can see a doctor. Technology is not the answer: proper funding, pay & recruitment of skilled staff is the only solution.

Natalie Haynes already wrote an excellent novel re-telling Medusa's story from her perspective, and laying bare the casual cruelty and petty spite of the Greek gods in the story. Highly recommended.

If you as UK taxpayers are paying Farage £91,000 a year, while GBeebies is paying him £100,000 a *month*, then you can be sure of one thing: he's not working for you.

Many of us in tech suspect that AI hype is driven partly by the need for chip manufacturers to generate new markets for powerful processors, now everybody already has all the computing power they need in their phone, and the crypto bubble burst before the bitcoin miners could buy up all those chips.
I guess this means their plan worked. Bad news for the environment.

Is that partly because he's based in Germany, which has been very pro-Israel ( for obvious historic reasons), so maybe that's the water he swims in?
Mstdn.social https://mstdn.social/about feels to me like a decent place to be these last 2 years. It's also based in Germany (so EU data protection), but I haven't noticed any over-zealous moderation in my little bubble. 500 character limit on posts, which encourages brevity. 😉
Works fine for me, anyway
YMMV as always.

Good for Baroness Warsi.
I think quite a few politicians and commentators might benefit from emulating @npub1wkr…yvj6 in her refreshingly robust assessment of these racist rioters:
