One thing we are doing is we are not doing retention that part was a little easier for us. We are doing exactly what part of the audio the client side is playing at the current time.
We even check what time we got the request coming in for the next byte vs when we should have gotten it in by the end user.
Means we are able to do down to 3 seconds of play time. Which was the goal of podcast performance GitHub.

So I did a little test of our podcast episode performance technology, and have to say I am bloody impressed with how good the data truly is.
I really didn’t know if this would work, and wow the data is really interesting.
I truely have to thank @nprofile…h82d for giving me the idea - he might not know it, but it was his talk about HLS and first party data that made me revisit this idea how can we get data without begging the players.
We only show data that has over 50% completion.

Would really love if the #PodcastIndex could ask players to support `x-playback-session-id` header, this is a UUID random for a session. This allows us to know if a person on a CGNAT network (IP changes per request) is listening and what they are listening too. Apple Podcast and Spotify both support this.
We still don't know WHO the person is, but we can say that it is 1 person not 60 people.

I think after listening to Dave on podcasting 2.0 we do need to be kind (me included). We need organisations like Sounds profitable to focus on the successes like transcripts and advocate for more tag adoption like person tag and location tag.

This solves in my mind the argument that a creator has to pick. We as hosting provider can spread them everywhere that the creator wants to be.
Maybe the discussion needs to be around why no good video player for RSS yet?

@nprofile…h82d why do we need this? We have perfectly good ways of knowing who is listening. The issue is we don’t know who is listening. We want to verify they are a real person a uid won’t solve that. I can create a bot and boom it sends random uid messages to episodes. This doesn’t tell us much if anything more than we already know.
Funny enough what @nprofile…3ram has done with streaming to the activitypub would give us more VALID data on listening habits. We support nostr to do the same.

@nprofile…mp2c do you have documentation about the TVL record and how it is stored. I believe @nprofile…7xwn has used that for his spitbox idea, which means it doesn't break anything. However I don't have a documentation about what the TVL record includes like fields etc.

@nprofile…mp2c would love an lightning address like a bolt12 that I can send money through with CoinSpot. They don’t accept email addresses as lighting addresses. Needs to be a bolt11 or bolt12 and the issue is the fee seems to get in the way with a bolt11.

We will see in 2025 Spotify put the price of premium up and that will have an effect on their users.
Users want to be in control of their spending. Just like creators want to be in control of their earning potential.
As a community we are going to in the right direction.

@nprofile…h82d for creators the sooner the better 90 seconds for a podping is to long for some creators. This is why we would love to have api direct to each app. We can push faster to them than podping as it’s a 1 to 1 relationship.
Could get that 90 seconds down to 4 seconds. Potentially.

Camera don’t pickup AirPods as easy either.

@nprofile…asy0 The issue with it Dan, is great if your a Tiktok app, but for a podcast hosting company or a video sharing company it is a little different we are not dealing with 30 second clips we are dealing with 1h to 3h 4K video.
It's very costly, and if you have cracked that code, would love to see an open source version of it, as that could be a game changer

Most podcasters want their content shared and to reach as many as possible. Now I could get behind the idea if it was chasing cloned copies of podcasts who try to rip and make money from it.
But that’s a total different thing.

@nprofile…7xwn really good point, yes I can see that potentially happening but that’s a good thing on away. I don’t think people will leave novel length comments, and smart podcast apps should be fetching the wallet comment length ability before requesting the invoice.
A good developer will always make sure that they fetch as much info before they try to run an invoice generator. Also the invoice code will fail if wallet won’t accept comment length (I’ve tested that, with a few providers)

Because as long as the app knows what it supports and the podcaster knows what they support.
It’s up to each app to say yes I’ll pay in BTC or XMR or whatever.
It’s the communication lookup of the option url that makes this possible.
I could see a day when there governments watching BTC and lightning may try and stop you from sending sats to a person.
Censorship is real. We have seen that even with Alby blocking countries.

@nprofile…h82d @nprofile…mp2c there are pro and cons to bolt11 and bolt12 if I understand correctly. The major one is the bolt12 is reusable without needing to refetch a new invoice. My concern here is it may limit the ability to send additional data like app name, app username etc if someone is using the same invoice via a mobile app to support a creator.
I haven’t looked into bolt12 that much atm besides the bolt12 demo.
How would we be able to limit a bolt12 invoice to 1 payee?

@nprofile…6746 remember apps like @nprofile…3ram’s Truefans makes it’s easy for users to boost and they don’t need to understand the technology.
Fountain by @nprofile…2d4u allows you to top up with a credit card so that’s easy too.
I think there been confusion around listener wallets and their onboarding process and creator wallets and their onboarding process.
The process for creators is a little more technical than the listener if they use those two app. I’d say for non-tech ppl TrueFans is easier imo.

So I have never used Helipad. so I have no idea if you get a UI interface. All I know is it's awesome.
But @nprofile…h82d options JSON gave me ideas, now i know some platforms wont support option JSON however we can support it in boostagram live app which is standalone.
Here is what we can achieve if we think about how do we make boosts more interactive.
new boosts load below the older boosts - otherwise you will have your screen scrolling and you won't be able to read the boost.

I am looking for boost sound effects for boostagram live app.
I am wondering if the #podcast community have any sounds that they would not mind us using in the open source app? (FULL CREDIT GIVEN)
like the sound effects @nprofile…zn42 uses the word BOOST would be a great one.
in our app you can set different sound effect for different amounts, and we keep track of if a wallet has reached 1M sats donated to you and they will get a special SUPER BOOSTER sound effect.

@nprofile…7xwn because everyone is being moved to use callback url it's no different then that URL pathway, we are just capturing the comment query and other JSON data.
The rest still works as expected.
we technically could attach it to callback URL if people want but then comments would not be sent to your wallet they would still be catched. I know I still use my wallet for just the random friends paying me for coffee, I didn't want to upset that work flow. If that makes sense,

So my wallet generates the invoice before the invoice is generated the wallet stores for that transaction the approved preimage (but it doesn't share it)
What it does share is the payment_hash, which is used to make the preimage that the wallet sends back over the lightning network, it can't be sent back to the invoice generator wallet directly via the callback (not without other stuff).

@nprofile…7xwn if Dave was using our service then we have a wallet for Dave. But the preimage is never shown to Dave until the purchase is completed by the payee. We have to watch the payment_hash or invoice using NWC.

@nprofile…7xwn Dave doesn’t necessarily need Alice to manually share the preimage. Instead, Dave can monitor the payment hash on the Lightning Network. When Alice successfully pays the invoice, the payment hash resolves automatically, revealing the preimage, and Dave’s HTLC is settled.
In short:
“Dave can monitor the payment hash, and once Alice pays the invoice, the HTLC will automatically settle upon successful payment.”

@nprofile…7xwn your doing exactly what I did when I first started I over thought it. Sure you “could” send a random key. But to do that you need a macaroon or you could trust that it’s really really hard and to date BTC has not been hacked and BOLT11 has not had a weakness since it launched (to my knowledge).
Only once a customer say Russell pays Dave does Russell get the preimage Dave’s wallet automatically generates the preimage as he has the key wants it’s been approved and completed.

I would say that’s the benefit with BOLT11 is it’s tamper proof and just because an invoice transaction is generated doesn’t mean it shows in your wallet.
Meaning unless they pay the message is pending.

@nprofile…7xwn that also depends, in short no. as the boostCallback is optional if the user wants boost to go somewhere else.
For example if they used the app I am developing it will auto make these connections all they need is to fill in the settings page.
The app does the rest if you have it linked to a domain name then you replace your value address with stevenB@mydomain.com and it will do everything for you out of the box.

@nprofile…7xwn and I am not saying his idea is with our merit, but it’s not flushed out enough in the current metaboost tag. As it currently stands there are other ways to do what he is proposing. As I have been told by @nprofile…h82d code talks and examples talk. I believe that without a clear example of the “why” we can do what he is suggesting otherways including but not limited to SocialInteract tag and other tags in my opinion.

As a developer some days you just go. BLEEP 🤬 IT!
Honestly one of the hardest thing is trying not to burn yourself out, coding more coding more brain cells being used.
You get to a point where you just go BLEEP 🤬 IT.
There’s no real warning signs. Just one day you go to bed, next day you’re just wanting to sleep or feeling down.
There do much I should be proud of, but I always go you can do better you must do better.
My accountant and friend said to me today “you know you’re talented” 👌

I don’t want peoples payment method to fail, and we all need to have a transition period (maybe).

@nprofile…7xwn yep 100% agree. There are plus sides but to go back to the flip side for a second. Maybe we need a solution that can say Steven just changed his LNaddress can every podcast that had Steven on please update the address automatically.
This could solve the worry of some addresses not being changed when a user changes.

@nprofile…7xwn this won’t affect PodToo, it actually is a great selling point of how we set up our servers.
However I am concerned that people may not understand the tech side and we will have setups that are wrong or incompatible because of a mistake.
LNaddress now require callbacks and amount parameters etc the old system didn’t.

@nprofile…7xwn yeah, but the old method would not have this issue. I think you understand what am getting at. We both agree issues can happen we potentially making those issues more common.
To be honest the change is a good one for PodToo has it backs up everything we are doing internally with L402.
But am asking these questions because some people are not technical and won’t understand.
PodToo has 6 geo servers that all have /.well-known working so if one server goes down we have 5 left.

@nprofile…7xwn I can see that point, too. But how can we truly solve this issue? Am not saying the idea is not good just we should really solve this from a feature proof standpoint solution.
Also say we are generating the invoices and their webserver is down - they miss out?
The old address only failure point was node or if they change their wallet address.

This idea that my feed is the truth sounds great , but no player is changing other peoples RSS feeds to match your feed data. Tbh.
