it's so incredibly impressive and sad how few tvs and tv connected 'boxes'/'sticks' support reading from a USB Flash drive. Chromecast, Apple TV, Fire TV. Anything that's not a full fledged PC seems like it only acknowledges content from online sources, even if they have a USB slot.
Does anyone have any tips for a cheap (<$100 USD) portable and fully offline (or at least core offline) devices that can connect to an hdmi port and either has >128gb onboard storage or can read from a USB drive?

So I put in a job app yesterday and now my mind is all "what #FountainPen (s) should I take?" Should be professional but classy and able to generate interest for conversation. Also over sized pens are out.
My short list is currently my L2K and Pilot Decimo. Perhaps my new twsbi obsidian, though that's getting into over sized level. The L2K and Decimo are probably what I'll settle on...

I've kind of learned to embrace it. I'm normally pretty anal about making sure my pens are inked up at the start of the week, but not feeling good and sleeping 12+ hours a day destroyed my schedule.
This is just a special kind a fun and completely shows why I need to carry around *checks notes* 20 inked pens at all times

Question for the #FountainPen hive mind. I love the Diplomat Magnum. I love how bouncy the nib is. I love how lightweight it is. I love the snap cap function, tactility, and sound. My only complaint is the diameter. I find pretty much all number 5 nib pens to be too narrow for me and give me hand cramps.
Is there a pen that is basically the Diplomat Magnum but widened enough to be a #6 nib? (Yes the extra 1 or 2 mm do matter)

Please tell me other people care about light pollution, that it isn't just me? With the aurorae this week, i've lamented several times in person about how bad my city's light pollution is. you can't see the milky way. you can barely see any stars. Nobody cares. It's either "eCoNoMy" or "jUsT MoVe FuRtHeR aWay". I've started using the con b squeeze concrete in my pilot metro. I'm not sure if I'm really losing much ink volume with it over reusing cartridges; I've seen a range of values from different websites. Anywho, not being able to see through the ink sac is very much helping me to stop worrying about ink levels and just write. Not that I ever have worried per se, but I love seeing ink slush around.

I've noticed that both of my TWSBI Vac700Rs have developed cracks in their caps. The cracks are towards the top so they aren't interfering with the cap seal or threads, but I know the cracks will spread. Guess I should reach out to TWSBI to get new caps at some point. :/
I've been thinking about getting a Pilot C823 (not sure If i'd want the amber or clear version), but idk. The TWSBIs write so well and work so well with the Vac20 ink well to very easily get a full fill.

I've gotten my Tega Snorkel #FountainPen emptied and cleaned out tonight. Hopefully I can finally get the cap band glued back on it when I get home from work. I'll probably want to take a little bit of sandpaper to it first to make sure the glue sticks better this time.
I also have some work on my HS cap that I've been needing to do. That's on the top of the cap though (the magnet was never glued on -_-) so I don't have to have the pen sitting without a cap for a period of time.

a jeweler's loupe is a fountain pen user's best friend (besides good ink and paper). Assume any nib will need some adjustment work (either from factor or shipping (nibs are delicate after all)).
My Good Blue L130 #FountainPen is now a lovely writer with litteral minutes of slight adjustment.

that might be a valid argument, though even in western markets, a $50 pen is often considered a luxury instrument. Nahvalur is a good example of a good company. Even their "twsbi eco ripoffs" are different enough to stand out.
I wentmore broadly with the chinesium rant. It's just such a common thing in basically every industry & is an intentional tactic China particularly uses to an extreme. For this reason, I don't think the "meant for internal market" reason holds water

I'm against them. Yes the Pilot Capless/VP has been around for an eternity and there's not patent protection. Sure you probably could get the cost lower, but so often Jinhao and co cut costs to the absolute extreme.
When I was just getting into #FountainPens, I got a Majohn VP ripoff. It was complete trash. The pen would not seal at all and the threads stripped within a month. I got a couple more thinking it was a fluke. Nope. All 3 were in the trash within a month. (1/2)

you *CAN* pull the nib and feed out and refill it/add some water. IIRC it has a fabric feed which does deteriorate, but people do refill Varsities.

Welp, found pine of my ink bottles had gone off. I'm not sure exactly if it was mold or the ink separating, but I think part of it was mold. The poor only want even that old, only a year. Is this just bad luck or should I be doing something different with my inks? I see people just leaving ink bottles out where as I have them tucked away to reduce light exposure.

I know this isn't a unique thought around these parts, but browsing /r/fountainpens really is just a waste. Everyone posts their new pens (and hey, new pens are fun), but that gives the impression that EVERYONE is constantly buying new pens. You then also get the posts of "look at my 100 TWSBI Ecos in a rainbow". Do you really need to matchy matchy that badly? How do you use all those pens?

very well written and very true. I find the constant stream of "Limited Editions" very tiring. i'm still relatively quite new into fountain pens (got my first one in 2023). I think this is ultimately part of the end-stage capitalism world we live in. If a company does as well this year that they did last year, they're considered a failure. That's driving a lot of the same sales tactics and push for overconsumption in many industries.

I #JustEmptied my Benu Euphoria Early Grey <F> #FountainPen this morning. It was inked with PenBBS №95 "Lin Hiuyin" on 9 September 2024. Long ISCs take so much ink. I think I'll be putting this pen in storage for a bit so I can focus on other pens.

After many months of prefering pocket #FountainPens, the pendulum is swinging back the other way. I'm finding the need to post (especially screw-on posting) to be a real drag. I'm very tempted to nib-ectomy my Schon Monoc nib into another pen. IIRC, it uses standard Jowo housing threads.

I literally just discovered that my Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age Skylight is compatible with the My Pen System. I legit don't know how that has passed me by for so long. I've put magnets to it before & the V logo never popped off. I was fiddling around with it tonight & IT MOVED!
Did Visconti do a silent update to my pen recently? (/s) In all seriousness, there's SO little info about the skylights out there that I welcome any info. Was there ever a Bronze Age skylight?
