A good Claude.md = amazing
Installing skills = wow
Installing the "superpower" skills and asking Claude "Please search online and find other relevant skills for this project" (and it then installing things like supabase skills etc.) = Living in the god damn future.

Eek, I see a bug, where Podfriend creates a new ActivityPub item, even when one already exist. I will fix this, and hope to test it next Friday when you publish a new episode with an activitypub item!

@nprofile…7epg & @nprofile…td70 I could only listen on mobile (and it had a lot of bugs) but I managed to then actually fix a lot of bugs because of it - @nprofile…td70 I didn't get to see the feed with your video - I hope you will do that again in the future, because I would love to test that - it's just that the episode typically falls right into family time on a Friday, so sometimes it's hard to plan!

Doing a test around ad-blocking in podcasts.
The user experience is MUCH better.
The reality is that most ads in podcasts are stupid and have no relevance for me (most are american products I can't buy anyway) - and honestly I also just hate ads.
But it feels very controversial. Why is it that? Is it because podcasts feels more personal and connected? People have absolutely 0 qualms about blocking ads in the browser, isn't it ethically the same?

@nprofile…2vw0 Nope! The honest truth is that it's as closed source and non-self hosted as it gets for now! (I did the open source thing in the past and it didn't really do anything for me or the project, so this time I'm just going full speed ahead in private - When that's said, I love open source, so it might be a path I take in the future. Maybe when it's a lot more mature)

I almost have a full ActivityPub client in Podfriend where you can follow actors outside of Podfriend. I might end up being the only user, but it's pretty cool!

Trying to decide if I want Podfriend to work like a queue or a playlist.
I built it for a queue, but I keep returning to more of a playlist.
Where you can have "Smart Blocks" (eg. "Every morning I want Podnews to play if there's a new episode"), "Podcast blocks" (I am binging a true crime seasonal podcast) and single episodes (A lot of these will be in the smart blocks, but in case I just want to decide to listen to Podcasting 2.0).
Question is often "what happens when I press "Back".

@nprofile…w0mx Did you do anything special with "Job cuts at Spotify"? For some reason Podfriend got it as 52 milliseconds and no RSS duration. - It's a great case to actually work on my error handling :D But I am just trying to understand what happened here (since the episode seems fine now).

I'm finally at a place where I have the time to take Podfriend forward a bit. Of course I did that thing that everyone says you shouldn't do - start over 😂 - but since I still have access to all the old code, and can give LLMs access to it, it's relatively easy to do.

Starting coding a bit on Podfriend 3.0. Got some great ideas for it :D
I want to see if I can avoid having a dedicated server myself.
Did anyone ever easily solve the usecase of proxying podcast covers (to avoid loading a massive amount of 3000x3000 images etc.)?

Yeah, I took it down for now. I kept getting more and more traffic (which should be a good thing), but it was increasing my monthly bills a lot ($1-200+) and when I looked at the traffic it was all bullshit AI hammering it, so not even something I could use.
I'm thinking of how I can potentially port it to a cheaper infrastructure using Supabase and Cloudflare etc. - just need a few more hours in the day!

For 10 years I've been writing on and off on a sci-fi trilogy.
Definitely a big project, but a labor of love.
The first book is almost ready.
Don't get me wrong, there' still so much polishing to do, but it feels like it's getting close.

I am thinking of re-inventing Podfriend, not specifically as a player, because god knows there's enough of those. (I'll probably still keep the capability, at least on web, though).
But... What could a reimagined Podfriend look like? Nice podcast pages for podcasts? Tools for podcasts, like realtime polls, comments, whatever? Podcasting 2.0 widgets?
I'd like to start with something small and just build from there (since my kryptonite is always trying to build something huge 😂 )

This last week of my vacation, I've set myself a challenge. To build a new website each day (😂 ), that could potentially end up earning some passive income.
Only limit is: It has to be useful for the users. I don't want to spam the internet with crappy things.

@npub1ln5…xyw6 Oh yes, my chin is up high. I also just negotiated some extra conditions, so I now have 7 months of garden leave 😂 The hardest thing will be to start having job conversations but to convince them that I need several months of freedom first.
But in all seriousness, it's really nice to have this opportunity to heavily reflect on what I want to do going forward.

At the very last minute the microphone (Blue Yeti something) I had bought for that kind of thing decided not to work, so had to do it with my Steelseries headset.
