WAY back when I was doing record stores. classical sorting was a nightmare. Artist (orchestra, soloist, several per album often), composer, title of the music, label, recording series...all of these were things that mattered. We often had one album stocked in several places, and even then, the best way to find things was the staff's memory.

Possibly my favorite movie of all time, by the way. I was raised on that stuff in the 60s too. I've been collecting records by cheezy vocal harmony groups since forever, some of which are surprisingly complex. The New Main Street Singers were incredible.

Well, this is an interesting day. I was taught by professional naturalists when I was an NPS volunteer that they were largely native to the Northeast, and followed Europeans as they expanded into the North American West. Yet I can find nothing online now to back that up, so this could well be one of those long-held beliefs that are simply wrong.

Raccoons have been my nemesis ever since moving here. As a competing animal, I see them as an enemy. As a naturalist, I have trouble seeing them as anything other as well; an invasive species wreaking havoc. But it was humans that brought them here; I can't blame the raccoons.

Absolutely correct. And at least I learned that day that several coworkers were useless in an emergency. That was good to know-this was just a couple of months before the Northridge quake when we had several large facilities full of collapsed equipment and walls, all surrounded by hazmat.

My one day was a disaster also...group of four trainees. When I was getting my turns with the dummy under the slabs, the other three were supposed to be managing the lifting and cribbing, and they weren't. So I was yelling orders at them while trying to pass the class while also trying to avoid being crushed by these morons as they repeatedly dropped the slab.
Teamwork is a lot of fun, really.

It's more than just lifting the weight without risk of it falling back down...as the weight is removed, you have to be looking out for bleeding. With crush injuries the weight is often all that's keeping the blood on the inside.
I know several of you are pros at this; I only had one day-long course in lifting heavy objects off of trapped people, focusing on tilt-up construction, not boulders. I'm open to corrections!

BEST rust remover. Get a 5 gallon paint bucket. Home centers sell threaded watertight lids, get one of those too.
Put 3 gallons of water in, and add two pounds of food-grade citric acid crystals, give or take a few ounces. Once dissolved, slowly add half a cup of washing soda, or sodium carbonate.

I'm not questioning the Super Heavy booster...it's Starship itself. If it melts at 12,000mph, there is no way in hell it was ever designed to handl orbital reentry at over 17,000mph. That is VASTLY more energy.
Super Heavy may eventually be a viable booster, although never as efficient or capable as a cryofuel booster. But it's not the complete package they've been feeding to the cult, never was, and never can be.

2026-05-18 21:47:50 UTC

Of course won't be a complete orbit; the thing is orders of magnitude away from actually ever being capable of that. The entire project has been a boondoggle.

😂 Staking everything on a craft that burns up re-entering at 12,000mph (FAR slower than an orbital reentry), and more often than not lands smack dead center of the smoking crater. Yeah, that's a good plan.

The only saving grace was that Saratoga High was essentially an arts prep school, and the band geeks stuck together. 600 of 1200 students were in music and theater classes. In spite of the local wealth, it was a treeless cinderblock hell.
