while I'm sure the higher speed is a flagship headline for the project, I had understood that the extra capacity was the important thing, so maybe we shouldn't be so worried about the ultimate speed.

it might be fairer to extend that symapthy to other left leaning parties too surely if that is the tack one takes. I don't for example believe that Labour or the LDs would say that they would prefer to win by misleading voters, or actively set out to decieve about their intent. As reform have demonstrated it quickly becomes obvious that if you have promised to raise everything to the ground, as soon as you get into office reality bites.

I agree, but I think my point is fair. I'm looking at a leaflet that came yesterday in Winchester saying the Greens are in second "In the City", this is not true its the Tories across the city. In the small print it says its actually the result of a single ward.
Its just an observation that despite the "we are different" rhetoric, the reality is the same selective statistics and games are played by all including the greens.
I preferred George Monbiot's hustings approach in Totnes.

the result will be interesting, but in truth its demonstrated that the Greens are more of the same in their interaction with constituents, with the usual lies. I have spent weeks seeing the Greens saying its a race between reform and them. Now it turns out that the constituency is broadly left wing but split 3 ways, so may go to reform if both leftwing parties are unlucky.
Still fingers crossed its not reform.

I don't disagree that it works, but perhpas it would be better if he stuck to popularising his agenda. I would question whether a politician like say Caroline Lucas would accept that she was passive or soft on green issues, but my recollection of her was that she avoided the daily calls for resignation that I identify with politicians from the right. It made her a more serious, trustworthy politician.

I suspect that Polanski's willingness to behave in an aggressively opportunistic way (his day to day narrative is increasingly difficult to seperate from say Kemi Badenoch's) where previous Green's always came across as trying a kinder type of engagement might also help his profile. Though like Reform, it makes his claim of offering a different kind of politics harder to defend if he gets into government and then can't make the changes he wants because of real world constraints.

something I have been mulling is the idea of grading an economy by the portion of its population who have the ability to pay tax. I don't mean who its Gov choose to levy tax on, but those who earn enough to actually have something spare. If your employer pays so little that you have to supplement with in work benefits for example I might say you don't meet the threshold.

it is implemented. I thought your original post was about the removal of requirements. The easiest implementation would surely be to avoid unimplementing the existing requirements. Its the same old battle with housing devs who would prefer to build houses with no storage, bedrooms with no floor space after you add a bed etc.

arguably there is more stratification than that. Politicians failure to regulate extractive, addictive services, failure to implement policy to combat climate change, or access to work because of technology. Now one might be tempted to characterise these as "middle class problems" by comparison to refugees plight, but I suspect that you would agree that is rather flippant.

this reminds me of a description of Gary Kasparov playing chess with deep blue. Kasparov sat calm and good, deep blue suck massive power, required huge cooling. The point the writer was making was that the human brain is a fantastically efficient powerful computer.

I think pretending the similar alternatives don't exist is actually a strategy that I see at local level where I live. The LDs have done very well with the "its us of the Tories" campaigning, but if you look at the numbers here the threat is the Greens who's numbers are growing quickly and yet you never see them mentioned.
Equally though the Green messaging here is lame and abstract, "the LDs are too powerful so vote in a few green councillors".

do you think the rise in dividend expectations from shareholders and subsequent downward pressure on investment and R&D is a factor? I have read that over the last 30 years dividend expectation have gone from 7-8% up to 30% now.

while I personally like the outcome of this poll, remember its been paid for by a group that are lobbying for closer ties with Europe and so all the messaging around it will promote that as the sensible course of action. What I find frustrating about this sort of issue is the sensible direction of travel seems so obvious, but politicians maybe seem to move differently. Maybe the problem is that Labour are moving more slowly toward Europe than some desire, rather than away it.

it would be interesting to deconstruct the figure a bit more, because some roles simply involve more land. Like farming say.
Also it would be interesting also to know how much land the top 0.1% owned.
