Our hero is a salaryman. That's it. Well, not really. He's stubbornly ethical: he gets isekaied trying to protect a teenage girl he met on the way home from work, and in his new life as an accountant in the Generic Germanic Bureaucracy, he gets his entire department to stop rubber-stamping military budget requests that are skimming from the magical disaster relief fund.

And @npub16w3…ehy5 has found me one that's actually giving me a sense of what I want from fantasy anime.
1. Light on game mechanics. I'm given to understand that RPG crunch is a fundamental part of Japanese high fantasy, and I'm put off by how it constrains what kind of stories can be told and what they can focus on.
2. A protagonist who isn't the Chosen Hero, whose story overlaps with theirs.
3. Queer.
Anyway, here's Isekai Office Worker: The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter.

I don't watch a lot of isekai. Not a lot of anime in general; watching TV in languages I don't speak takes a lot of spoons these days, between reading the subtitles, watching the action, trying to catch the subtleties of an unfamiliar culture in the voices and animation...
...and isekai specifically is built on a formula that's Kinda Not for Me. But the genre has existed for long enough that I occasionally catch wind of shows that play with that formula.

Trying to build a #Minecraft piston door from a youtube tutorial.
I've gotten half of it to work consistently. The other half is just the first half mirrored, but it breaks a different way every time I rebuild it.
I'm starting to hate quasiconnectivity.

I would love to start supporting #MapQuest . Unfortunately, they don't have public transit directions.
They've listened to their users and refused to cave to US political bullshit. Maybe if we start asking for buses and trains in our app reviews, they'll actually do it.

#MakersHour A1: hi! I'm Alex, and I've been surprisingly busy for how unemployed I am. I'm almost done with the editing on the anthology, I've started on a mystery knit-along, I've somehow gotten myself into a leadership position on @npub1f6p…7u22 , and I really need to pack for a conference @npub16w3…ehy5 and I are going to next week.

#makershour A1: I'm Alex, a dragon wizard who spins cozy yarns from atop a hoard of cozy yarn, and I've been doing a little short fiction editing and a lot of knitting. Mostly jumping back and forth between the Wedding Sweater and a Christmas Hat.

I did my linguistics undergrad in Pittsburgh, and briefly considered picking up "yinz" but decided it was too location-specific. If I'd stayed there, I definitely would have.

I use it IRL (PNW/western Canada), because it feels like a queer thing to me here. It's more gender-inclusive than "you guys."

#Seattle folks:
I'm moving out soon, and looking to give away a bed and a couch to somebody/ies who can come pick them up the week of April 6. What are the generally accepted hashtags for #BuyNothing sorts of deals?

so I got laid off again, for stupid AI-pilled reasons.
Anybody need a writer or editor with:
- 8+ years of technical writer/content strategist experience, mostly in software
- One published short fiction anthology (as editor)
- A master's degree in sociolinguistics
- A knack for learning new content management systems
- A love of working with invested SMEs
- A basic understanding of web dev
- Strong boundaries
- An aversion to generative AI?
Prioritizing remote work in Canada.

Sound symbolism: in a lot of languages, "ee" is associated with small/sharp/hard things, and "oo" and "oh" with large/round/soft things.
Advertisers use this a lot: consider Cheezits (a cracker) vs Oreos (a cookie).
I can get into more kinds of sound symbolism if y'all want, but here's the really weird thing: A recent study found that this particular distinction isn't unique to humans, and I'm hoping to see more science about this in the future.

I get that this is real inside-blaseball stuff, but the silly names have got me interested
(also just wanted to make a blaseball joke because we're here making a weird evil twin of normal math by adding Ls to things)

Is there a lemniscatic SOH CAH TOA equivalent I can use to better visualize sline and cosline? (is there also a tanglent?) Or is that just a right triangle inside one lobe?
