Every interaction I make on nostr is public forever, including who I DM. I prefer my exposure to American tech services (which I don't recommend any one do) like Signal.org (GCM) than the entire world forever -- neither are cypherpunk.
Satoshi understood that "privacy is consent", a term I coined a long time ago. We should all have the privilege of consenting to who collects, uses, and discloses our personal information and metadata, and we should encourage those who are working on those technologies.
nostr's social graph and interaction transparency is the wet dream of every global surveillance agency as it works today. I look forward to when that isn't the case.

A lack of od your country's responsibility to audit and improve public health doesn't mean public health sucks, it suggests there's a force intentionally eroding it. We have this issue in Canada too, but I still support public health care, I don't want a world where you have be wealthy to live healthy.
Education and Healthcare for all I believe in, contrary to to libertarian principles which are more prevalent here.

integrating with the legacy financial system will have the larger impact at scale.
The "not your keys not your coins" non-custodial dogma is for those on the privelged side of the digital divide and ignores most of those in the global south. The vast majority of those introduced to bitcoin, or onboarding, is from a fiat onramp and to a custodial wallet. Over time the user will want to learn more / technically proper ways of managing their sats, but shouldn't be shamed for not understanding it all on day 1.
FWIW: Apple and Google play stores are legacy systems and surveillance choke points, I would avoid those everywhere possible. To me, it's irresponsible to ever endorse someone use either of these, if you want to build a privacy centric future and care about the personal information of your users.
I speculate you've chosen this path of legacy system adoption for larger impact at scale than a PWA solution (which I've requested from day 1 as you know).

All of the freedom loving countries have now banned TikTok. This means USA, Afghanistan, China, Iran, Nepal, Somalia, and Jordan have all banned Tiktok as an alleged surveillance tool.

From my friend Christopher Parsons, Canada's national policing breaking pretty much every Canadian privacy law, as well as their own internal policies and procedures, collecting personal data on Canadians from dodgy and maybe even illegal sources:
The recent report from Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada/Commissariat à la protection de la vie privée du Canada, about the RCMP’s use of private tools to aggregate open source intelligence, is an important read for those interested in the restrictions that apply to federal government agencies’ collection of this information.
The OPC found that the RCMP:
* had sought to outsource its own legal accountabilities to a third-party vendor that aggregated information,
* was unable to demonstrate that their vendor was lawfully collecting Canadian residents’ personal information,
* operated in contravention to prior guarantees or agreements between the OPC and the RCMP,
* was relying on a deficient privacy impact assessment, and
* failed to adequately disclose to Canadian residents how information was being collected, with the effect of preventing them from understanding the activities that the RCMP was undertaking.
It is a breathtaking condemnation of the method by which the RCMP collected open source intelligence, and includes assertions that the agency is involved in activities that stand in contravention of PIPEDA and the Privacy Act, as well as its own internal processes and procedures.

It depends where you're putting your attention of course, but I think most countries suffer from "corporate journalism" (what most people call MSM). I call it corporate media instead, because if profits are the priority, click bait and provocation sells, not objective (as non-biased as possible) research and story telling exploring both/multiple sides of a topic.
We also have a lot of really good journalism here, but it's usually long-form, and that doesn't bode well for keyboard warriors looking for stories that resonate with one's pre-existing confirmation bias.

Although rare, I know many (mostly Canadians, where I live) who identify as journalists who don't pretend not to be personally biased, but as a journalist strive to share both sides and perspectives of an issue.
Although not a professional journalist myself, I try to do this on social media/blogging, and welcome constructive critical debate when I miss a perspective. You shouldn't know a journalist's position if they are a good journalist -- said another way, if you know a writer's bias or position, they're not a (good) journalist.
It does humanity no good in a polarizing world to go extreme with bias even though the result is more clicks, as that just increases polarization. This also erodes critical thought, as we can easily hear listening to keyboard warriors who follow extreme "news" -- I enjoy telling people what they watch/listen to/read when they share their political position, as their lack of critical thinking and dogma demonstrates this.

Don't conflate all employers with some. Many major chains do this, but most mom + pop sized restaurants have razor thin margins ... maybe a happy medium would be based on revenue/profit, like if your restaurant is making over 100k/year, all of your staff need to be paid at least minimum wage.
But really, the countries that accept tips also have an atrocious non-livable minimum wage that doesn't match the inflation from their endless money printing / central bank relationship, but that's for another day :D

I would agree philosophically, but in countries that take tips, employers are usually allowed to pay their staff lower than minimum wage, thus allowing the workers to not declare that tip income, getting them closer to a livable income they would not have with just minimum wage rates -- so would require Denmark like restaurant wages, thus Denmark like restaurant prices, to be sustainable, without tips.

Happy to chat with you about this at nostrica! We built a working model at idvpn.ca back in 2018/19, building into a nostr type model now. (I'd like to be open source and decentralized within a year).
We do multiple layers of KYC (self, WoT, vendor, lawyer/notary public) depending on your needs, verifiable credentials (with proper anonymity), and we meet the user where they're at (web2/web5). We can also do on device alive checks (liveliness) with proper privacy as well.
Users and vendors no longer care about privacy breaches, as all they have is UUIDs, no personal information. Existing companies don't like it, as there's no personal information data to secretly sell or share.

Do we dare talk about tipping in Canada? How does it differ from the US these days?
Anyone willing to disclose their policy?
15% seems to be the comfortable rate for Canadians I've talked to, and I've talked to quite a few and just listened. American friends (generally affluent) and affluent Canadians default to 20%. A lot of immigrants still not tipping at all. Machines here commonly programmed to default to 18% which doesn't seem to make anyone happy, you have to spend extra time correcting it or save time and just accept it.
Buying at the counter? Pizza slice, coffee, growler fill, cannabis -- the social feedback seems to be if they do some work they deserve a tip, otherwise none. Industry folks note they usually make sub-par incomes, so should be tipped.
Delivery? The service fees that insinuate go to the delivery, driver, and staff can often just go to the tech service provider (Uber Eats etc).
What about Uber/Lyft/Taxis?
Story time:
I got off a plane into a monsoon in El Salvador, the legalization of bitcoin was going to happen the next day, so I needed to find a taxi to Bitcoin Beach (El Zonte). I didn't expect it, but it turns out Uber works there as well -- after a notable micro-geo-targeting issue in the dark in a monsoon finding each other, I found my Uber driver. He didn't speak English, but as I knew bitcoin would be legal there the next day I asked him if I could pay or tip in bitcoin. He didn't speak English, so after several failed attempts he called his son, who spoke some English. I said I would be happy to pay in bitcoin, or tip in bitcoin. The son was so-called orange pilled and clearly excited, telling his father to accept the bitcoin, but the pragmatic father asked how to convert to USD and the story wasn't simple. Writing this over a year later, the Chiva wallet is still not a success, which Salvadoreans were generously open to -- I digress.
The son had a familiarity with bitcoin, but thought payments would take too long and I could lie and not make sure the payment hit finality, so I explained the lightning network the best I could, with a bit of bravado as at the time I was CEO of CoinOS.io, the oldest bitcoin company in the world and the fastest and easiest at payments. I asked the son to create an account on coinos and tell me his username. For example, I'm kris on coinos, so my addresses are coinos.io/kris for bitcoin on-chain, liquid.net, or lightning payments. I'm no longer involved with them, but it's the best payment solution on the planet.

Last week-end I was at my local favourite restaurant in Vancouver, Tocador, and as I always do out of habit now, I ask when getting a bill if they accept bitcoin. She laughed and said she wished, she'd heard about bitcoin for a long time and from her boyfriend, but didn't have any. I said, "If you've got your cell phone and a data connection, I'll tip you in bitcoin and it'll take you less than 30 seconds". She excused herself to go get her phone and came back excited.
There's a lot we wanna say when we've been in bitcoin, like explaining custodial vs non-custodial, and this is where coinos wins every time. I asked her to create an account, make it an easy to remember username, think early days ICQ or Twitter if you're that old, but to make a password you will not forget and that you've not used before, or you will lose it all.
Passwords:
I teach classes on password management regularly, so I want to say a lot here, but imagine your password is compromised and it's angel69@facebook, I can reasonably assume your password on gmail is angel69@gmail, so think about a way to make clever passwords unique on each website.

She created an account, I sent her sats in the typical one click familiar with coinos, faster than traditional payment rails, and she was grateful and excited. I went to the bathroom later and I think she was telling the staff about it and how to split it up (easy, create a coinos account and send over the the sats).
It takes some privilege to accept bitcoin today, as it's not easy to convert in many locations. It's worth holding for four years I suggested, anyone that holds bitcoin for 4 years is generally happen with the return on investment, daily spikes be damned.
Back to my story:
I sent some sats to my Uber driver's son knowing I may never see them again, as I was a foreigner in a strange country sending sats to a guy on a phone. The old man still wanted cold hard cash that he was used to, I obliged. I also paid for my trip in sats. Bitcoin is a long game, and in 4 years I want my impact to be notable. It'll be interesting in 2 years to see where those sats are. I sent the tip via sats to the son.

If someone is running a relay, they can see your IP address and client credentials when you use the relay, not far from doxxing you. This will be important for those who want anonymous pseudonyms (once clients handle multiple identities, this will become more prevalent) but use the same client with their real identity attached.
obvious solution but challenging: tor enabled relays
social trust solution: have relays disclose what they log and why. bonus: add a web of trust (WoT) metric for relay operations
technical solution: a code signed open source relay that doesn't log environment variables (a malicious person could put a logging proxy in front of that)

I met someone tonight who has spent the last few years working with EVMs, and he didn't understand how he can't login via metamask, and when he asked about it previously at he was laughed at. I asked him to explain further, and he said he doesn't want to login to places without his private key on his hard wallet.
I learned two things by listening; we go a lot further, I want a hardware wallet login also, and being one of the few bitcoiners who creates a space for people with different experiences to share their stories without judgment allows us all to create a real community.

Does nostream support NIP-26? What I'm looking for would be a moderated relay where I can authorize root keys of friends, but they could create sub-key pairs and post / use the relay with a sub-key where we don't know who owns the pubkey in the chat, but we know they're an authorized friend

A few ideas:
* A column for filtering/censorship (Is it fully open, spam/porn filtered, restricted for content or users)
* A column if it supports tor or not (which would encourage more relays to offer this)

Today I would like to remind everyone that even if you have backups, you should verify you can restore once a year, and that your backup disk still works when you need it.
Totally not just because I accidentally wiped +14G of data and my backup disk is dead, just a random FYI.
