Been a while since I’ve made an informal @npub18m7…q955 feature request, so here are a couple 🫡
- activity feed of notes by all npubs who follow you (rather than just those whom you follow)
- “you and me” view of an npub’s profile, showing only/all events involving direct communication between you and that npub (ie replies, notes where one user tagged the other, etc.). Old, pre-en-shitified facebook had something like this, but idk what they called it

It’s fascinating, and concerning, the degree to which we base our interpretation of events on preconceived beliefs.
Within a couple of hours, I’ve seen posts about the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting that range from scorn for how Zelenskyy spoke during the discussion, to abhorrence of how Trump treated the man sitting across from him.
These responses often start from the assumptions of “this guy is a scammer” or “that guy a monster” and I’m just processing how deeply engrained some of our (allegedly) free opinions and beliefs are, when they’re ultimately built on a body of information consumed from partisan sources that we trust, often in spite of the fact that nearly every source of news is biased. It’s only human. But it’s also scary.
I think the best we can do is trust our intuition - does it feel right? It’s also helpful to listen to our emotions, but especially important question those, and their origins, because emotion can mislead.
Personally, I was sickened by the lack of empathy and compassion shown by our country’s leaders. I recognize the Ukraine war issue is extremely fraught, and with the amount of disinformation and propaganda out there, it’s hard to know exactly what’s right. But the fact is, when someone’s country is being systematically demolished, my heart goes out to them. Maybe that’s weak, or naive.
(It’s not).
It was a hard video to watch, especially after spending so much time on Nostr (and none on Twitter), because I have become a bit accustomed to all the good vibes.
I do believe Trump actually wants to end the war. He may be able to get there, and even if the cost to Ukraine is high, the cost of continued warfare is almost certainly higher (although this is highly contingent on what Putin turns his gaze to next).
Trump was clearly triggered enough to revert to “verbally-abusive-parent” mode. I’m not a shrink, but it’s not hard to see. Zelenskyy’s posture was that of man who has watched an ally turn into an abuser. We’ve already extracted enough minerals from the developing world, so now we’ll do it to Ukraine, so long as they agree to let Russia off the hook for the war?
That shit feels wrong, man.

Depending on your technical level and your privacy preferences:
Robosats is a peer-to-peer exchange that runs over Tor, and is one of the most private ways to buy Bitcoin (ie you’re not tying your identity to every transaction you make, or making your net worth known)
I believe @npub1ex7…vyt9 is now available in Europe. It’s an excellent way to stack Bitcoin, with an ethical company, but like most exchanges requires KYC and reduces privacy. Not sure if @npub1cas…dg5l is in Europe yet, but same thing. Also @npub1536…pswl is a European app, peer to peer, which appears to be extremely user-friendly.

But as nostr’s userbase continues to grow, and as existing social/media platforms begin to adopt Nostr and convert their apps into clients (a la @npub1v5u…n0v5 podcasts), then having a robust and well-established nostr presence can only set one up for success 🤙
I’d also offer that in Ben’s case, considering his work with HRF, many of the users who seek out his videos may specifically appreciate being able to access the content outside of the big tech silos and heavily surveilled media networks.

Enjoyed the most recent RHR. You made a point about nostr’s “feel good vibes” being a product of the early-ness of new tech and the type of people who adopt it, with the implication that it will end up like the rest of the internet as adoption grows…
I’d argue that even with a billion users, it will still be a dramatically better experience (socially and otherwise).
The incentives in nostr are such that “good behavior” is actually celebrated and lifted up — not just because today’s nostriches are mostly decent people, but because (I think) most people are mostly decent, and want the world to be good. With the choice to create and participate in a healthy digital space, most problem will choose this. We can choose love algorithms instead of having an outrage algorithm forced down our throats.
All sorts of content will live on nostr, sure, but it already does. Some heinous shit can be found in global feeds. But we can choose a different experience. We can zap good content. If the bell curve of humanity suggests that most of us are pretty decent, then nostr’s architecture allows and facilitates a mostly-good social space.
Bitcoin (brilliantly) circumvents this risk by aligning self-interest/greed with positive externalities. Not so sure that nostr implicitly achieves the same, and I entirely agree that it’s naive to sugarcoat it. I’m young enough that I didn’t witness the “early feel good vibes” of other tech movements, so I could be naive in thinking that human nature will drive a primarily healthy nostr in the future. But I don’t think I am.
Enough people (without any understanding of Bitcoin or nostr) are dissatisfied with today’s options to suggest that the middle/majority of the bell curve is fundamentally decent, and nostr has a framework such where a revolution could actually work.

It’s time to change the narrative that “nostr is only bitcoiners and tech folks”. I follow hundreds of bitcoiners, and hundreds of others.
The bitcoiners I follow will *sometimes* post about Bitcoin, but that is not the majority of the content in my feed.
Want to attract new users? Stop perpetuating the story that everyone here is a bitcoiner, and all the content is Bitcoin and nostr. That was true a year ago, but it’s not true now. I don’t hear new users complain about “too much bitcoin” anymore.
My feed is full of art, food, family. Life events, projects, social movements. Politics, sports, shitposting. It doesn’t take much to shift the narrative. Just start telling the right story 🤝
The road ahead is bright. These are my coffee musings this morning ☕️

Your IP address is visible to your relays.
If a relay operator was malicious they could abuse that information in identifying you (perhaps to punish you for how you use Bitcoin, in a country with an authoritarian regime) or could package your nostr activity with other data brokers’ information about you to sell into the profile(s) that exist on nearly everyone for as-targeting (at best) or government surveillance (in the US, for example, it’s illegal to spy on citizens, but not to buy the entirety of their internet activity from a broker and use that for profiling and “criminal prediction” police lists).
These are all “ugly” (although not “worst case”) scenarios, but it’s more likely that some of those things are already happening with your online data outside of nostr.
It depends also, of course, what relays you use. You asked “worst case” so yeah someone could go after nostriches in a few years with the assumption that many of them hold lots of (massively appreciated) Bitcoin. Kidnappings and theft already happen; user data from crypto exchanges is sold on the dark web every day, and people get scammed and stole from as a result.
Nostr isn’t necessarily “big” enough yet to make us targets… but data is forever.
Using an always-on VPN is just best practice, on Nostr or anywhere else, and while it’s of course far from a perfect solution, a high-quality VPN is such an easy way to limit the data that can be easily traced to you, making it just inconvenient enough that your average bad actor would prefer a different, easier target.

It repeatedly blows my mind, just how fundamentally decent the majority of people here are.
My hope/theory is that it’s not actually “just like this on Nostr”. While it’s true that a number of us have overlapping interests or worldviews, there is also a natural diversity: people from all around the world, with different cultures, languages, philosophies, and experiences, all show up here to say GM.
It’s more of a cultural bell curve, where the majority of people are pretty chill, decent human beings, who generally like each other and respect one another’s differences.
My radical proposition is that this actually reflects the real world, and that the current cultural narrative of unrelenting division - while it has some truth to it, for sure — is drastically overblown, both on a personal level and by the media. On the edges of the bell curve are the very niche, very loud, and very “divided” subcultures. These groups have been given the loudest microphones.
Individually, if we only interact with the toxic, rage-bait algorithms that have come to define modern social/media (because it’s in journalism too), we experience the world through this clouded lens. We’re fed a continuous diet of disagreement, outrage, war, etc., because we click on it and thus the people making the content decisions get paid.
Remove the algorithms, and you remove the illusion of irreconcilable division. Nostr is a perfect case study of this, and so far it’s going beautifully.
I’m cautiously optimistic that this trend will continue when the user base grows 10x, 100x, because my view is that humanity is primarily good. Time will tell, and incentives will matter. But I’m hopeful that on a value-for-value, proof-of-work standard, our better instincts will prevail.

Best thing you can do is work with a physical therapist to rebuild core and back strength. Massage and chiropractic can feel great - and can be helpful - but unless it’s coupled with proper strength training, it will always be “there, you feel good now right? Okay, come back twice a week for the rest of your life”.

Unpopular opinion: the term “fiat” gets thrown around way too often to describe things that are associated with “making money” or that people otherwise just don’t like.
Nothing wrong with building wealth. (Just store it in Bitcoin for best results).
If your goal is to stack fiat, well, joke’s on you.
It’s great that more people are recognizing what fiat money is, what it isn’t, and why it’s so problematic.
But, while using certain traditional methods to grow your business may land on the lower end of the moral spectrum, it’s kind of cringeworthy to categorically describe that as “fiat”. Words are awesome, so why be lazy?

Well, this is awesome. Is this effectively a “storage” function for your keys?
In other words, does it work as an “air gapped signer” in that you can (in this example) generate and store the keys exclusively on your passport device, and be able to use Amethyst to operate the nostr account without exposing the nsec to amethyst?
I’ve been looking for an excuse to pick up a Passport… so if the above is correct, I’m buying one today…

Hey, thanks for replying. I’m actually not using my Hub account with this nsec - it’s a simple “legacy” custodial Alby account
What’s odd is that the error only appears when I try to pay the invoice as “public” - when I set it to “private” then it seems to work

Every time I try to zap a note, I’m getting “error fetching Lightning invoice. Any troubleshooting tips?
I promised zaps and now I’m having trouble delivering 🤦‍♂️😞
I’ll try resetting my NWC to Alby in the morning. If anyone can recommend other ideas while I sleep, it would be appreciated 🙏
Using @npub18m7…q955 but not sure if it’s a client issue… it’s happening on every user though so I don’t think it’s the receiving wallet. Cc @npub1xts…kk5s @npub1xv8…lk3x
