The founders built the system already knowing the people running it would eventually go bad. So they baked into the blueprint on purpose.
I’m not loyal to a party. Parties change costumes every four years and act like it matters. What doesn’t change is a machine that keeps growing no matter who’s holding the wheel, one that’s started treating citizens like a liability instead of the reason it exists.
Reagan said it better than I can:
“You don’t become American by getting a visa and a Social Security card. Anybody can do that. You become American by understanding and embracing the values that made this country great: freedom, personal responsibility, faith, family, and patriotism.”
That’s what I’m actually loyal to. Not a building. Not a title. Not a badge on somebody in Washington. The values underneath all of it.
If it ever comes down to defending those values from the people who are supposed to be protecting them, that’s a line I’ve already drawn for myself.

Been up all night going back through three years of my own notes. Wanted to see what I actually keep circling. Turns out there’s a handful of things over and over, so I figured I’d stop letting them sit as scattered posts and pull them into something that holds together.
So I’m testing this out. A 10 chapter book, published here chapter by chapter, long form from Habla. Everything Nostr has already pulled out of me, condensed and put in order.

that’s the whole failure of discovery here. no algorithm means nothing surfaces new people for you, so if we don’t push each other by hand, nobody moves. the upside is that this makes us the algorithm. and ours doesn’t rank you by what keeps you scrolling. it ranks you by whether a real person put their name on you.

Platforms discovered you could decouple attention from consent. Harvest the first, never ask for the second, and sell the gap. Nostr recouples them. A sat is consent with a price attached, which means value on nostr is measured in the one unit that can’t be manufactured. Small numbers there aren’t weakness. Humans were never built for comfort. We were built for the tribe.
For almost all of human history you lived and died inside a small group that needed you. You weren’t optional. If you slacked, people felt it. If you went down, people carried you. Every day your existence mattered to somebody in a way you could actually feel.
Then we got soft and built safety walls and have never been more comfortable. You can go a whole week now without one single person actually needing you. That’s been quietly engineered in our time today. That’s why people are lonely sitting inside “paradise”.
And it’s also why this place holds. nostr, bitcoin, the whole thing we’re doing here. It’s a tribe again as small as it may be. People who actually get each other, holding a line the outside world thinks is a joke. Mocked out there, welded together in here. You zap a stranger and suddenly he’s real to you. You hold through an 80% drawdown next to people doing the exact same thing and not flinching. We ALL have skin in the game.
The comfortable world can’t manufacture this and it’s eating them alive. We rebuilt the tribe almost by accident, out of math and stubbornness, and the world hasnt even noticed yet.

One tool I’ve used to teach my kids low time preference is sitting down and building puzzles with them. I won’t pretend I knew it was working at the time. It just felt like something a dad should do. I compartmentalize well. Whether it’s good or bad, it’s the way Ive been hardwired regardless. I think these moments just bring you back to reality. That our “problems” are minuscule compared to what some when death comes near. My worldview as a Christian helps to see clearly how fallen this world is and that there’s life beyond this side.
