I am migrating to #qubes and I want to dump my entire Linux system into a standalone Qube, but so far failed doing this.
I would appreciate some hints about how this could be done.
The idea is to have the old system accessible from withing the new Qubes system, for occasional use when I find the stuff that's undoubtedly still missing in my Qubes setup.
I have managed to install a different OS into a standalone Qube from a .iso file, just to test/troubleshoot, but have not been able to figure out how to turn my old Linux installation into a .iso file.
#dd lets me write some sort of image of the entire old drive (using of=/dev/sdb/nameofoldinstallation.iso) , but it seems that dd maybe only calls it an ISO file. I don't know.
When I try to "Boot qube from CD-ROM" , it results in some error message that it cannot read the .iso file that I made using dd.

I understand why you don't like Twitter, I have always been allergic to it. Every time I followed a link to a Twitter page and read a few extra replies, I got the emotional equivalent of hives and nausea. Since these links to Twitter post now only expose the single post made by someone, it's much better! But what I don't get, yet, is what Nostr is supposed to be good for. I don't feel like I can search for Nostr content to educate myself, nor can I get my questions exposed to the right persons so they can answer them, nor can I get exposed to questions by others which I might be able to answer. It might just be a matter of time until I find a reason, but so far it often feels like a waste of time to scroll around Nostr, just because I like Freedom Tech.

Thanks for your ongoing work on this! Where is a good place on Nostr (or a good way) to ask questions about how to use the Seedsigner to build multisig solutions?
One thing I want to know is this: Can I make a multisig x out of y wallet, where the majority of the y's can ONLY sign, but they cannot generate the address list? So that they cannot be used to determine the value of the target if they are found by the wrong entity. Or so my ex-lawyer cannot follow all my transactions for all time, etc etc

If this catches on (= is perceived as having been profitable for the scammers), then every 'special' block will have a larger attack aimed at it, making the Bitcoin network unable to process normal transactions for a while each time.
Like blocks 888888, 900000, 999999, 1000000, 1050000 etc etc

While trying to figure out how to 'exercise' more in order to stave off the decrepitness creeping in with age, I realised that I had a nearly ideal 'exercise regime' when I was cycling (and did not have a car at all).
I never rode the bike for fun or for exercise, but just to get around, and at a speed that would get me there in time.

https://ocean.xyz/docs/tides explains why (or at least how) the sats earning appear to be low on Ocean.
It spreads the earnings over the next 8 blocks found by Ocean. One could debate if this is blurring the 'custodial' issue, but in my case (just heating my house by mining) the wait for minimum payout is so long that it does not matter much having to wait for another 8 blocks.

In a nutshell, it's spreading your earnings over he next 8 blocks (ie blocks found by a miner minion on Ocean) or so, to even out the daily earnings somewhat.

Hi, I have started to mine on Ocean but it looks like my bitcoin rewards are massively reduced compared to mining with my previous pool. Can someone convince me, please, that this is a temporary thing? I really like the idea of mining on Ocean, but I am mining to earn some sats and I will not tolerate a 80% reduction to the sats earned longer term. How many blocks would Ocean find per day with the current hashrate if luck was 100%?

I used the time (while Ocean found no blocks) to add Ocean to the top of the miner list on all the SD cards that I use to adjust the heater power for my house.
And then continued to mine on my previous pool, already above minimum payout threshold, until Ocean found a block and then switched to ocean about an hour later.
Result: The 'Estimated Earnings next Block' are still low compared to the 'Estimated Earnings/Day'.
So my theory appear to be busted or maybe only half of the truth.
How about this: Maybe Ocean should be finding 4 blocks per day (at average luck) and that's why the next block will only pay me half of what my 'Estimated Earning/Day' are supposed to be?

But this also means that it's a bad idea, economically speaking, to start pointing hashrate to Ocean when they have had bad luck for a while. I could continue to earn a fairly predictable amount of sats every day on my previous pool, while I am guaranteed to share in the bad luck already dished out on Ocean in the last couple of days.
The rational thing to do is to switch to Ocean immediately after they found a block, and hash elsewhere until then.
I hope I'm wrong about that, somehow......

That is a good question!
I have another good question: How do you post a question on Nostr so that it gets seen by the right people?
I searched for #bitcoin #mining #ocean because I wanted to ask the same question about the 'Estimated Earnings Next Block' being so low. That's after continuous mining for more than 24hrs, so I would have thought the number should be larger than the expected Estimated earnings/day.
But guess what, I figured it out right now! 🤣
Funny how that works, brain engages differently when someone else has the question.....or it's just because now I know it's worth thinking about it.
It is because of recent bad luck! Let me explain:
All those miners who have contributed hashes (since the last block was found by Ocean) get paid their share according to how much they have contributed. They got nothing since the last block was found, bad luck. If any newcomers would get paid their average daily expected number of sats, then they would get paid WAY more per hash than those who have continued to mine on Ocean despite of the recent bad luck.

Do you re-use petri-dishes? I hate the idea of buying sterilised plastic dishes and using them just once. I want to fill (and ideally re-fill) the dishes and then sterilise them. I found PP5 sauce containers (about 50ml zsize) useful for that. I think the higher wall to bottom surface ratio (taller shape factor) allow for some bubbling while it's in the pressure cooker, while standard petri-dishes probably boil over, stick together, and end up with continuous agar-bridges to the outside for contamination to get in.

4 small cable ties can be used to secure the adapter to the fan grill on the Apollo. But it can also just sit on top loosely.
The Noctua 200mm fan comes with a splitter cable that can be used to power the Noctua at it's full 800rpm while the 90mm fan is running with pwm variable speed.

You get good results with a 200mm Noctua fan on top of the Apollo, and a fan with less than 2000rpm minimum speed in place of the original fan. Quiet enough to gently heat a bedroom, but only with a silent power supply. The stock power supply is much much louder than an Apollo modified as above. I use San Ace 92 9GA0912P4J031

I bought a bunch of LC (liquid culture) syringes and inoculated 4% honey water with them.
Seems to work perfectly almost every time, for more than 20 species. Not that I managed to get many to actually fruit (yet), but the LCs are alive and kicking.
I also inoculated an agar plate from a spore print and than ran it through another few agar plates, although I could not see contamination, and then sucked a bit of the agar plate mycelium into a syringe and injected it into a liquid culture jar. Perfect result first time (I built a laminar flow box of sorts for the agar plate part). Multiplying the LC into more LC jars is super easy and reliable, but you definitely need a starting culture that has no other organisms in it.
I also managed to take a tissue sample through the grow bag of a lions mane fruiting substrate kit and injected it into LC, that mother LC has been multiplied into several other LC jars and been used to inoculate fruiting substrate with good results.
Once you have a clean liquid culture, you can successfully multiply the mycelium without a laminar flow hood or still air box.

The name of the mushroom species would most certainly be helpful. Otherwise it's a bit like saying 'I tried to keep a vertebrate as a pet one day but it did not go well'...
However, for most commonly grown mushrooms, learn how to make a liquid culture and then over-inoculate with that.
Liquid culture is the missing link between 'esoteric science' and 'anyone can do it' when it comes to mycology.

A miner is an excellent way to help dry out all sorts of stuff, as you know.
I'd probably arrange it to suck in outside air and pressurize the wet rooms, venting moisture out through windows.
