WATCHED PROJECT HAIL MARY IT WAS SOOOOOOOOO FUCKING GOOOOOOD

2026-03-25 16:46:27 UTC

anyone who thinks the word "based" is a problem needs to fucking go outside and touch grass. like seriously make some real life friends who don't use the fediverse (or at least not as goddamn much) and go hang out with them. its meaning has consistently evolved a whole bunch. it didn't even start as an alt-right thing. first it was a drug thing, then a hip-hop thing, THEN an alt-right thing, then it became mainstream, and now it is literally just common gen z slang at this point. most people who say it don't even have any idea where it came from. you'll hear it a lot irl if you actually have a social life
y'all need to grow up and focus on real problems in the world instead of policing harmless slang. this is like getting angry at people for saying "poggers" because the guy who started it is problematic -- what the fuck is even the point? real fuckin "old person yells at cloud" type energy. lowkey i think a lot of the people complaining about gen z slang are just curmudgeons who want an excuse to hate on the youth. it just feels like holding people to an unreasonably high standard to be like "never use these extremely common slang terms everyone around you uses." extremely online behavior. highkey fucking cop energy

likewise, living loud and proud and giving zero fucks about what other people think can be a great way to inspire hope in people
be it friends, acquaintances, or randos who you walk by on the street
take, for example, the way this kitten dresses lol
it's for fun, yeah, but it's also to be a beacon of hope for the questioning and still-closeted
to show them that, yes, living truly authentically is possible
and fuck anyone who would be mean or judgemental about it because their opinion doesn't mean shit

this kitten can almost entirely credit the amazing person it ended up blossoming into to joining mastodon in 2017

2026-01-03 22:45:41 UTC

- reply

there's a reason we talk about community building a lot here on the cybersyndicate instances
it's the task we're best suited for
out of all the things anyone could do to help build a better world
it's not just a mastodon instance. it's not just social media. the fediverse, and this instance in particular, have changed the lives of so many people for the better
they've enabled queer self-expression and discovery on so many levels for so many
this is an enormous net positive for society. its importance cannot be overstated

2026-01-03 22:37:00 UTC

in the face of unspeakable systemic violence it can be hard feeling like what we do actually matters
since the people oppressing us employ violence on a massive scale, it can feel like violence is the only way forward
but it's not
that isn't to say there shouldn't be violence; rather, that everyone has a different role to play in revolutionary action
some of us should be throwing molotovs, yes, but the rest of us -- especially those who are unsuited or unable to participate in such overt acts -- should be at home building community. feeding our neighbors, helping each other, cultivating spaces where people can be themselves, and otherwise practicing the anarchist principles of mutual aid
otherwise what's the other stuff for? what good is tearing down capitalism if we aren't equipped to put something better in its place?
all that's to say, don't feel guilty about not being able to attend protests and such. they're far from the only thing you can do to help build a better world

hey so i've decided that instead of just wearing the one pink cat ear hat in my avatar all the time everywhere
i'm gonna change it up and wear a different hat from my collection legiterally every day or every time i go out
[here's a post with pics of all four of them](https://cyberpunk.lol/@vantablack/115342873257953099 )
but i need a slight bit of help with this
please send me $15 so i can get a pronouns patch to add to the rainbow cat hat and finally make it wearable lol
a relatively small ask, just a silly little thing, but the constant lack of having money for small things like this (i only have a dollar and some change in my bank account rn) is really starting to break me so

**VANTABIRTHDAY FUNDRAISER 2.0**please boost! :boostRequest:
okay forget my previous birthday fundraising post. this one is more of a necessity. my birthday is tomorrow btw!
okay so. my phone is basically unusable now. i literally can't do two things at once on it. if i try to listen to music or be in a discord call at the same time as looking something up in a web browser... the music or voice call will just turn off. IT IS GODDAMN INFURIATING. i've tried everything i can to stop this but i've been told that it is the RAM and there's nothing i can do to solve it except upgrade
so it's a matter of WHEN, not if, i end up smashing this phone into a million fucking pieces. i've come so close to just throwing it onto the ground as hard as i can so many times because of this. or snapping it in half
idk what good phones there are or how much one would cost so i'm just gonna set the goal as $1000 since that seems like it'll get the job done
and in case it wasn't obvious i'm unemployed and disabled and poor and only asking because i could never in a million years afford something like this on my own
i know this is a big ask, so feel free to only contribute to part of it! i will be updating the total this post has reached in the replies as necessary
in addition, my laptop is also quite old and dogshit and similarly infuriating, if you'd like to help me out with that as well. anything and everything is always appreciated :3

remember 20 years ago when Sony had the galaxy brain DRM idea of "fuck it let's rootkit our customers"
> In 2005, it was revealed that the implementation of copy protection measures on about 22 million CDs distributed by Sony BMG installed one of two pieces of software that provided a form of digital rights management (DRM) by modifying the operating system to interfere with CD copying. Neither program could easily be uninstalled, and they created vulnerabilities that were exploited by unrelated malware.
> One of the programs would install and "phone home" with reports on the user's private listening habits, even if the user refused its end-user license agreement (EULA), while the other was not mentioned in the EULA at all. Both programs contained code from several pieces of copylefted free software in an apparent infringement of copyright, and configured the operating system to hide the software's existence, leading to both programs being classified as rootkits.
> Sony BMG initially denied that the rootkits were harmful. It then released an uninstaller for one of the programs that merely made the program's files visible while also installing additional software that could not be easily removed, collected an email address from the user and introduced further security vulnerabilities.

**THE RAINBOW REPORT IS LOOKING FOR WRITERS!!!**https://rainbow.report
**ELEVATOR PITCH:** are you a writer of any sort? any experience level? any so-called qualification? do you have something to say about queerness, punk, anarchism, or anything even tangentially related to one or more of those topics? if so, i want to give you a voice!!! a platform, even!!!!!
**WHO ARE WE?** we're the scrappy little underdog of the publishing world!!! forged in the crucible of one of my trademark hyperfocuses and self-hosted on my joyfriend's beefy-ass home server, the rainbow report is a brand fuckin new entry into the world of independent reporting. i hope we can turn it into something truly beautiful to be proud of
**WHO AM I?** vanta rainbow black. the fediverse's favorite cyberpunk catgirl. creator of fedipact, and countless other ventures. i've been on fedi for eight years and know the place inside and out. i'm even in a book about fedi!!! for more info visit https://vantaa.black
**HOW IS THIS MONETIZED?** it isn't, really. you can donate to me if you like (i do rely on it to survive) and individual authors are free to plug their donation links as they see fit but... nah, we're never gonna run ads or shit like that lmao. money is a corrupting influence and i'd like to limit its effect on this project as much as possible. also i just really fucking hate ads. install ublock origin if you haven't yet and thank me later lol

content warnings are well and good and awesome even but at a certain point it's possible to puritanically overdo the fuck outta them and become annoying as shit
like... cw's for triggering shit are fine and expected and encouraged but at a certain point of insufferability you start just policing other people's cw's over mundane shit (like ALL CAPS or reclaimed slurs or trans joy selfies or swear words) and that's when you know you need to touch fucking grass
stop fucking telling me to content warn shit. i will ignore you. so hard. i cw exactly as much as i need to. i am very intentional about what i do and don't. leave me the fuck alone

at my best friend's suggestion i'm gonna be trying things a bit differently from now on. instead of asking for help with groceries and such weekly and always having gaps i'm gonna start crowdfunding for the entire month at once. this will provide me more peace of mind and stability and make things easier i think
TOTAL: $1500
groceries: $600
medical weed: $400
bills: $115
general life expenses: $385
do you enjoy the work i've done organizing a mass-defederation of meta's threads with FediPact? are you hype in the pipe for the fedi memoir whose 52k word rough draft i recently finished? do you like the rad cybersyndicate instances i've set up? the cool clothes i DIY together? my pirate radio station, vantaradio? my awesome videos? my amazing selfies? my community movie nights? my posting generally? or just wanna give someone in need a nice helping hand?
