@nprofile…d73q On the IP address point, I moved ISPs recently and found my perceived location was even fuzzier than before. It also sees more attempted cyberattacks. Swings and roundabouts.
As for data centres, just as unsightly and unsolicited as migrant hotels and HMOs.

@nprofile…l5m0 I should explain my setup. I run a Sophos Firewall VM atop Proxmox, on a Dell Optiplex 5070 SFF. Overkill for the connection I have but needed so I can have more than two network ports.
There are many things I can do to limit exposure, such as only allowing TCP traffic on specific devices so it can be scanned. While the device in question has a CA installed to not panic seeing the firewall MITM'ing the connection, it fails to decrypt a lot of traffic. TLS inspection is generally discouraged.
The user got an ad that told them to do it, allegedly from YT. There's no easy way to block ads in the app remotely so I'm still gravitating to doing *something* on the device itself. NewPipe is not an option due to Google reliance.
Ideally I would proactively check their traffic and pre-emptively lock down their device should they come into contact with malware. I've already had to tell them to put the device back on the guest network to prevent affecting other devices.

Gen Xer fell for a 'you must install this app to protect your documents' ploy and installed an adware app from Google Play. No flag from my Sophos firewall.
How can I prevent this from happening again? TLS inspection is off the table as it breaks too many things. I'm already running IPS and AV against their device traffic.
