I know some fediverse apps use various text/image detection technologies, so I was curious if this encourages the use of alt text.
The main thing I learned: Out of nearly 30,000 fediverse posts I looked at, almost 80% did not have information about the client app.
That was a bit surprising. And it makes doing this sort of analysis difficult.

I'm starting to find ads even more irritating lately.
What's up with sites that take work funded by the public and putting ads over it? One site I looked at wouldn't even load a NASA video with an ad-blocker on, because of the pre-roll ad.
Or, what about when you watch a trailer for a movie, which itself is an ad, really, but first you have to watch another ad. What's up with that?

I honestly enjoy writing good, descriptive alt text. Once you get used to it, it's no longer a chore, rather a fun exercise.
It gives you an opportunity to focus on the image you're sharing, sometimes revealing details you might miss.
It's a great writing challenge as well.
And it's just the right thing to do to help folks who rely on it.

The thing that trips me up about making hashtags accessible on social media, by capitalizing each word JustLikeThis, are words like WordPress, or ActivityPub.
I'm guessing these should be all lowercase, so that screen readers don't read these as two separate words?
I'm really starting to see the benefits of allowing spaces in hashtags.

I wonder why the Android Gmail app shows the number of emails in your trash. They don't do that in the web version.
I use filters and labels pretty extensively, so this breaks the ability to quickly scan my unread emails.
Minor nuisance, but still makes me wonder about this design decision/inconsistency.

My personal pro tip for writing good alt text: Before you post an image, think of someone you deeply care about. Your spouse. One of your parents, or kids. Your best friend.
Imagine that they suddenly lost their eyesight. How would you describe that image to them?
