Yep. zero-conf was a blessing and Core did ruin it. It remains true that trust is much simpler than complexity. I could easily spec a way to make zero-conf come back, and be more excellent than LN, but Bitcoiners are too retarded to support that.

You will be able to rotate delegated keys soon (it is how Pubky Noise works), but pure root-key rotation is a fake idea. It always requires a separate authoritative source/network.
You can do social recovery things with shamir, or pre-announce other identities that you may rotate to, but all of it will be clunky. This is one of the reasons why we set up Pubky to allow cold identity keys.

Also, there is nothing preventing signing of homeserver data, it can be done at app level, or client level, or indexer level, or server level, because all you need to do is delegate keys, or identity-bind them. These are only possible because of the pkdns aspects.
We already have a noise lib, and working on identity-binding, so Pubky will also have signing, private data, private message, etc.

The code is all open source and can be run or forked by anyone.
App products have to follow laws, if you find something in our ToS that is beyond the minumum boilerplate required, please specify that part and I will check whethe removing it is actually possible.

Pubky does not require trusted caching servers.
The source of truth is always the user's homeserver and public key domain (PKARR record). Caches, indexers, mirrors, CDNs, and search services are optional performance layers, not authorities.
If a cache serves stale, filtered, or manipulated data, clients can fetch directly from the user's homeserver or use a different cache/indexer. The cache has no special power because it cannot change the user's identity, domain, or underlying data.
In practice, Pubky treats caches similarly to web CDNs: useful for speed and scalability, but entirely replaceable. The user's public key remains the stable identifier, and the PKARR record determines where authoritative data is located. If a cache disappears, lies, censors, or goes offline, users retain a credible exit by switching to another cache, another indexer, or direct retrieval from the source.

fwiw I actually tried "millibits" for a couple years, when I ran the Xotika platform. It was too confusing to have so many denominations. BIP 177 really is the solution, waiting for when Bitcoiners realize the "whole bitcoin" meme is useless. One BTC might never be $1M, so these arguments could also be premature. With modern tech, conversions could all happen as credit and denomination becomes less important.

As the image shows, this is a qualification for FREE 1GB storage and hosting of your data.
This is a SERVICE PROVIDED much like the one Primal offers, or any nostr relay would need to offer, to survive.
My company offering to provide that service for free if you can prove you aren't a bot, but you don't have to use any specific service in Pubky, just like you don't have to use Primal or a premium relay if you don't want to.
This has nothing at all to do with the protocol or Pubky tech, it is just how computers, businesses and networks work.
But it does show that Nostr users don't really understand how any of these things actually work underneath, because they were taught by memes and podcasters, and are not actually interested in the tech at all, right?

Pubky itself does not require pay. The protocols are all open source and p2p-capable. Our instance of the pubky.app web platform (which is also open source) has a bot gateway to prevent spammers from using up all our resources on our homeserver.
You can run your own homeserver, or ask someone to run one that does not have bot protection.
Pubky is in fact extremely more P2P-capable and censorship-resistant than Nostr.

You don't understand how biased you are for an unimpressive solution. We didn't skip building on Nostr out of ego. Nostr is not relevant to anyone but Bitcoin maximalists (because they are the only ones gullible enough to think Nostr is amazing).
We don't build on Nostr because when we did try to give our ideas to Nostr people they were totally ignored and insulted. Our designs are not new, and they predate Nostr. Believe it or not, our work inspired Nostr, not copied it.
Pubky is strictly better than Nostr. There is literally nothing better about Nostr aside from having some (decreasing) users.
Useful people aren't welcome to build on Nostr. You have to be some kind of fake-famous blessed-by-Jack-or-Odell asshole to work here. Nostr wants loyalty and tribal behavior, and we aren't in your tribe so we don't get any respect.
So, fuck you, and fuck everyone that thinks Nostr is a holy grail, or anything special at all. Because the design is bad, and the community wouldn't let you save it if you tried. Nostr is for Bitcoin Podcast listeners that want to feel like they understand tech, but are too lazy to actually learn.
You don't care about solving problems or helping people. You care about being "cool" with your fake internet friends. Have fun staying on nostr, I don't care because the world is actually a better place when losers like you stay away from other platforms. X is better without such people. Pubky too. Any terms that seem weird in our app ToS are there as boilerplate, we don't inject special weird things into our terms, we just ask our lawyers to make sure we are doing what is required.
You will find the same terms in other similar apps, and if you don't it is probably just amatuers.
If someone ever finds anything in our ToS we can remove, I am happy to check with legal about removing it.
We dont want anything to do with laws, regulations, or your personal shit, but we can't legally produce things without proper terms.
