been on very similar wavelength as you both. Been thinking of hosting some Linux install parties at local libraries or parks with shelters, power outlets, and wifi which there are at least a few solid options.
How to promote and get folks to show up is a hurdle I don't have much idea about, but I have found there is no shortage of old spare laptops people have sitting on shelves or whatever that tend to run Linux perfectly well.

ICE still very much out and about in my neck of the woods. Sure seems like that announcement that the surge was ending was just another lie.
Good thing the media didn't uncritically regurgitate it so that people sheltering in place wouldn't come out prematurely. Oh wait...

In our neighborhood today a teen was just taken from his car. Groceries left in the front seat. Probably he was just out shopping for his family who are sheltering at home.
We've been seeing this at the grocery store, young kids doing the shopping with their parents on a video call. The assumption maybe is the kids are natural born citizens and definitely not criminals or whatever so ICE would leave them alone.

This is breaking my heart right now 💔
We have tried to really limit the news we share with our kids, especially the scarier stuff, but our 6 year old knows enough of what is going on to be able to come up with this sign on her own, she made it for me to take to a protest.

Based on a book I read a rather long time ago, which seemed quite reasonable and not based on conspiracy theories, I happen to think public water fluoridation might not be a battle not worth fighting. Especially considering all the other clearly important fronts for resisting this regime.

Over the years I have been developing a pretty severe distaste for Figma, without getting into it too much, it does a lot of little things that just make it feel hostile to the platform, if the platform being designed for is the web.

There are other plenty of other good arguments in favor of #FOSS or #Linux or whatever, but an emerging one is a form of protest against American companies like Apple and Microsoft that side with the current regime.

Specifics about Chinese related politics or history are being highlighted, but honestly historical factual stuff like that isn't a strong point of such tools anyway, so this is a background concern at best IMO.
More importantly it seems to do at least as well as other LLMs I tried on prompts such as, "outline why privacy is a fundamental human right"

Nvida stock taking a BIG hit this morning feels pretty related to this Deepseek news.
In my testing the model is pretty good. Not needing a data center with a huge rack of GPUs to run it is a much bigger deal than the quality itself IMO, and seems like maybe the market agrees with me

Seems like many of the types who are used to having an "audience" find Mastodon doesn't scratch that itch for them, but still it's a fair point he makes.
I think it has even more power for most people if we change out "audience" for "community"
