Been on this planet for a bit now; still trying to figure it out.

What keeps me informed, amused, or up at night: climate and the environment, news and journalism, human evolution and ancient history, politics, wildlife, photography, cycling, piano, guitar, español, français.
Oh, and a sucker for bad puns.

I often use the comedic quality of its label as my criterion for choosing wine. So those that grace my table can have such names as Wine Not?, Sip Happens, In Dog Wines I’ve Only Had One, Fat Bastard, Pour Decisions, Sipperheroes.

More than 5,000 delivery robots are already schlepping pizzas and whatnot in American and some Canadian cities, but Toronto and Ottawa have banned them, citing safety and accessibility issues.
What’s your take?

No, not one week this and the next that, but throughout the 300,000 years of our history we’ve dabbled in just about every type of social/political/governance structure imaginable.

Don’t rake leaves or clean up yards: not only do you help wildlife but it’s the one time of year you can feel righteous about your procrastination.

Go To Away
(Globe and Mail)
A week before U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra is set to give remarks in Gander to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Newfoundland town that became famous for its kindness on that day addressed growing community anger about his attendance.
“We understand why people feel strongly about this,” said a statement from the town released Friday afternoon. “We are proud Canadians, and we understand the frustration and disappointment many Canadians are feeling about the current state of the relationship between Canada and the United States.”
. . .
Plans for his attendance have triggered controversy and emotion in the community and on social media, said Mayor Percy Farwell in an interview with The Globe and Mail prior to the town’s statement.

Now that the dust has settled on the Canada US trade breakdown, it turns to us, Canadians everywhere, to take the next steps. If Prime Minister Carney characterizes this as a war, then we become the soldiers. Our weapons are not rifles and drones but wallets and credit cards. Our strategic objective: as complete a boycott of US products and services as possible.
Fortunately, we’ve been in training now for months. And we’re getting damn good at this. We know the drill. We’ve been meticulously choosing Canadian-made products at our local stores. We pester their owners to provide ever more Canadian choices and clearer labelling. We’ve avoided travel south of the border. We’re finding alternatives for online services. So our tactical objective is to continue on, to double down, to strengthen the resolve.
To arms! To elbows!

I’ve heard them being referred to as pervy specs.

Interesting that they emphasize smoke from Canadian wildfires, but only near the bottom of the article do they mention the fires burning in Washington and Oregon.

A CTV news investigation found 17 cases of baggage tag switching at Pesrson Airport, Toronto, where tags from your checked luggage are placed on another suitcase containing drugs.
If you are concerned about the practice, the CTV article offers a few security tips:
• Take photos and videos of your bag at the airport. Document what your luggage looks like before you hand it over.
• Take a photo or video of your bag being weighed. That can help confirm the original weight of your luggage in case anything is added after check-in.
• Make sure your bag tag is securely attached. Before your bag disappears onto the conveyor belt, check that the tag is properly fastened and clearly visible.
• Keep a record of your baggage receipt. Do not throw out the small sticker or baggage claim receipt until your trip is over and your luggage is safely back in your possession.
• Use a luggage tracker. Several victims told W5 that tracking devices helped show where their real bags had gone.
• Take a photo of the bag tag itself. Make sure the tag number, destination and passenger name are visible.
