The principle that value is not necessarily a financial thing can’t be elevated enough. Time can be (and most often is) more valuable than money. An experience, a moment, a connection. Rich people spend ungodly amounts to find shit like that and can’t buy it.

I do wish I had more optimism on that front. At least in the short term.
Zero-sum ideologies are so embedded at an institutional level (and so easily exploited for profit) that for a large and growing number of people, the ends more than justify the means… from surveillance to censorship to imprisonment. Or worse.
A big chunk of society is going to have to be okay with occasionally piping up for the rights and interests of people they have been conditioned to hate. It feels a long way off, I’m afraid.

There is a long track record of big business and big government working hand-in-hand to support each other’s interests.
Wall Street moving aggressively into the Bitcoin space while law enforcement goes after companies like Samourai should not be thought of as coincidental.
It is about control. If this new form of money can’t be banned, it can be regulated, tracked, and swallowed up the by the same entities it was designed to avoid. It’s the history of the pursuit of power.
Bankers in suits didn’t suddenly read the white paper and get inspired by freedom money. They are doing what they do.
Just watch your six, everyone.

Going to ask what I suspect is not a great question, but doing it anyway… Coldcard does USB and air-gapped. Is there conventional wisdom on how much security the SD gives you above and beyond USB?
Never being connected is obviously preferable. But I’m sure the devs wouldn’t do it if it was an outsized liability.

Tax filing day in the US. Each year it seems more absurd to see what is asked of us just to comply with the bare minimum. The complexity is stressful, the carve-outs are endless, and it is absolutely tilted toward those with the resources and power to take advantage of it.

Hoping for peace somehow. We keep ending up here, generations after the last, hurting each other again and again in the false name of faith or self-defense or any other narrative to justify the horror. My heart breaks at the fallout that hits so many good people just trying to get by. Building with optimism, no matter what form that takes, has never been more important. Keep working.

Couple of random Saturday thoughts:
1 - My interactions with the legacy systems of banking and government that highlight the wretched, oppressive qualities of KYC are becoming more and more frequent as the tentacles grow.
2 - Knowing there is a path where it doesn’t have to be this way makes the description of Bitcoin as “hope” a lot more tangible and real.

First GM + first note. Hello, everyone.
Have never been interested in social media at all, but it feels like Nostr might be shaping something with purpose. Imperfect, for sure, and unfinished, but learning and evolving… all like me. Happy to be part of a new community.
Going anon for now but might put a face to it over time. Who knows. Regardless, it would be great to build real connections on here or IRL (if paths ever cross). I look forward to being the dumbest person in the room as often as possible. I’m suited for the job.
Origin story: Spent way too many years in the propaganda business, working for interests and people I wouldn’t associate with today. Some of you voted for them. More of you did not. Being here is one in a series of steps on the path beyond. Among various regrets is not finding that path earlier, as many of you did. Sometimes a factory reset allows the compass to point north again.
No idea what comes of this experiment, honestly. Just going with the flow. Along with empowering the global development of sound money at scale, I’m present for Hiking Nostr, Small Business Nostr, House Music Nostr, Craft Beer Nostr, etc. A normie at heart, I guess.
