This is VERY special.
This motorhome caught my eye in the retail park. I've never seen anything like it before. I always like posting images of unusual campers. I went for a closer look.
That's when I realised it was a Hyundai motorhome which had come all the way from South Korea. It had an SK registration plate with a blue yin and yang logo, and the letters "KOR".

The adtech industry collapsing may well be a really good thing. Places like Fedi can exist without advertising revenue, and that's where I prefer doing most of my surfing. I'm fed up with the Big Tech websites and hanker for the personal websites and blogs. I'd bring back community run fora, too. They seemed to be killed by big sites like reddit.

That's a good way of looking at it.
Do you remember the good old days when sites needing advertising revenue would display static banner advertisements? I don't object to ads, per se. It is the invasion of privacy by the likes of Google and Facebook who follow one around the Internet serving "targetted" advertising.

Aye. I would've guessed that cowsay probably came first.
There is a copy of the original developer's website, stored on archive.org. The page is dated 2002. The linked versions were on 3.x already. The package had likely been around long before 2002.

I've just stumbled across something whimsical, and I love it.
It is a package called xcowsay. Its sole purpose is to display some text in the form of a speech bubble, coming from a graphical cow. For example:
~$ echo this is awesome | xcowsay -t 50
produces the output shown in the screenshot. A typical usage would be displaying text from the fortune package.
If you prefer, there is a terminal version called cowsay, that draws an ascii-art cow.

I'm sure you will have heard the idiom "down a rabbit hole", meaning being distracted, particularly, these days, on the Internet. I've come across the saying several times this week alone.
However, do you know its origin?
Well, I'll tell you, anyway.
It comes from "Chapter One – Down the Rabbit Hole" of Lewis Carroll's book "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". The titular character, Alice, follows the rabbit, and proceeds to fall down the hole, and lands in Wonderland.

I was looking for some duplicate images in amongst thousands of images. I didn't find this functionality in any of my usual image viewers.
That's when I discovered "findimagedupes". It's a command line program to find "visually similar or duplicate images". This is better than something inside an image viewer, as findimagedupes can be included in scripts.

I'm sure shopping trolleys get used for transporting bulky or heavy items all the time. They would more likely be abandoned in housing or industrial estates. It's an out-of-town retail park, so, not sure why kids/students would bring it to that location.
I'm sure it will get repatriated, as they cost around £150 to buy new.

I enjoy pondering on things that most other folk might consider mundane.
A case in point happened to-day when I saw this shopping trolley. An abandoned shopping trolley in a retail park is not surprising. However, this shopping trolley belongs to Morrison's supermarket, which is over two miles away.
How did it get here?
Why did it get here?
Will it get repatriated?
I would've used the Morrison's trolley in Aldi (I like being a rebel), if I hadn't already inserted my £1 into an Aldi trolley.

I boosted a post from the Python Foundation earlier. I made a point of reading their linked blog before I made the boost.
I noticed that the foundation's blog is hosted on Blogspot. It used to be that I saw links to Blogspot all the time. Now, I can't remember the last time I was on Blogspot.
Is it that blogs have declined so much? Is it because I don't use Google for searching? Is Google killing Blogspot, like so many other projects before? Is it just me?

The BBC are reporting that Stephen Fry is suing the organisers of a tech conference (CogX), after he fell off the stage. Fry had just made the keynote address. He is claiming damages of £100,000.
I don't know any details about the incident, nor do I know the layout of the venue (O2 arena). The BBC article doesn't elaborate.
What do you think? Should organisers/venues be more careful with their guests or should speakers watch where they are going?

Was she treating Siri as if it was human, or is this a way to end the interaction?

I've never seen a person that has been shot. I have seen shot animals. It is usually very obvious, even when done at a distance. However, according to the STV report, he was murdered by a shotgun. How could the police have failed to notice a shotgun wound? Not reported as "point blank range", but, probably not that far away. Apart from the amount of blood, there would also have been torn clothing. Questions need to be asked of the police.
The deceased was 65, not *that* old.

To-day I met a Miniature Dachshund. He was a 5-month old puppy. He was absolutely tiny. Most remarkably, he was called Elvis. #Gruoch thought he was a Hound Dog. He didn't bark which meant Treat Me Nice. Gruoch looked Way Down on him. :blob_laughing:

Great concert last night at the Inverness Leisure centre, with Torridon and Calum MacPhail. Both bands are "local heroes". There was a very enthusiastic audience, with ages ranging from "still at school" to "long since retired". Everyone was dancing about to the upbeat tempos from both bands.
The only disappointment was a shorter set from Torridon (compared to last year), and the lack of an encore (which is usually a cover of " Loch Lomond").

Loads of lights, and other things, in my area, this year. Particularly popular is giant inflatables with lights inside. I can understand inflatable Santas, polar bears and snowmen. I find giant inflatable T-rexes to be inexplicable. What have they got to do with Christmas? That said, I've seen four giant T-rexes.

RIP Stanley Baxter
(1926-2025)
The giant of Scottish entertainment has died. To me, it seems that the actor, comedian, impressionist and author, has been around forever. Baxter just oozed talent, in all his ventures.
Baxter was a fascinating character for lots of reasons. I was particularly struck by his response when asked why he wasn't knighted: "I once turned down an OBE. They’re not going to give me the big gong.”

I've always had the requirement to transfer lots of relatively large files between my laptop/tablet/'phone (usually video, audio, & photos).
If the files aren't too big, and I'm not in a hurry, I'll use Bluetooth. Otherwise, I'll use scp/ssh. I won't use online services which spy on you. It's a faff.

The prize this month for the worst user experience when using a website goes to nsandi.com. You know, the people that do Premium Bonds.
Examples include: a one-time passcode that takes ten minutes to arrive, to be entered into a webpage that also timesout after 10 minutes.
The website requires the use of a username and password, the NS&I number, a passcode and remember the answers to three "security" questions. On top of this, the website fails more than 50% of the time.

I got to play with one of these to-day. It is a Genie GS-1932 scissor lift. It can extend to a working height of 7.64m, & collapses down to just over 2 metres. It is reassuringly heavy at just under 1.3 tonnes. I was glad to know about this weight when working at 7m. as it wobbles around . So, a solid anchor is reassuring.
It is very manoeuvrable, and can turn on a sixpence, very much like a forklift. Unlike a forklift, it is more difficult to drive because there isn't a fixed driving position.

I know for certain that UK resellers can purchase electronics from Chinese manufacturers. The purchased devices can be un-branded, or for larger quantities (extra cost) be branded with your desired name.
I've even seen large established brands buying goods in this way. As you say, when searching for certain device categories one finds identical products with different brand names. Anyone UK based would probably select a sensible name.
I should make a website to create brand names.

I'm going to talk about Goths. No, not the subculture people dressed in black, nor the Germanic tribe.
Goths are a type of pub (public bar) in Scotland, that are owned and run by a local trust. Typically, the profits from the pub are directed towards causes in the local community.
The name is a diminutive of Gothenburg Public House System. The system originated in Sweden as an attempt to reduce alcohol consumption, and direct money to local causes.

Rescuing a dog is straightforward, and is tremendously rewarding. I know from personal experience. #Gruoch, my dog, is a rescue dog. I've had her for 3.5 years.

I really liked the Tepee, it was a great car, and it served me well (138,000 miles). However, I wanted something of a similar type, but, bigger. I did consider the Citroën Berlingo XL & the Peugeot Rifter LWB. I couldn't find either of those at the right price and on my doorstep.
Instead, I have a bought a Ford Grand Tourneo Connect. It is a top of the range Titanium model with: panoramic glass roof, heated seats, Ford SYNC, 7 seats, rear privacy glass, cruise control, etc.

The Caledonian Canal. The canal allows ships to get fron east to west coasts (and vice versa, of course) by navigating a series of lochs through the centre of the Highlands.

The local parish priest is away on holiday. In his place there is a relief priest. The relief priest is quite... unusual. He is fairly young, is a heavy metal fan, and wears a cut-off denim jacket with rock band patches. He seems to favour a patchouli oil scent.
He calls himself the "Judas Priest". 😃

It's so sad. I have a couple of yellow azalea bushes (Ròs-chraobh - Rhododendron luteum) outside the kitchen window. As the name suggests they produce lovely yellow flowers. However, the flowers only ever last about a week, before they droop-down and fall off.
The bumblebees are making the most of it as I type. So, there is that.

On the way back from Edinburgh, Gruoch and I stopped at a wee layby, halfway between Dalwhinnie and Laggan (A889). We discovered a small, little used, track that gives easy access to the nearby hills. Perfect!

Exactly! In addition, I have a few friends who have multiple accounts. Some of which are alternative accounts, some active, and some defunct. Can I remember which is which? Nope!

Don't know how I did it. Managed to smack myself in the face with the car door. Big bruise and cut on forehead, and a swollen nose (not broken). Look like I've done a few rounds with *both* Klitschko brothers.
