It's getting a bit nerve-wracking to self host stuff, but on the other hand I'm unsure if there's a better home for my presence.
Starnix seemed fine, but it seems people are peeved not at what actually happens, but by the fact that there is no overarching moderation in case of mild annoyances (that some could call harassment). I'm not there because "free zpeech my politic oponion!!!" as much as just to be in a place with no general topic or obligations.

I need to fiddle with my Windows XP VMs, try and get malware going, maybe add a Vista machine to the mix for newer malware.

Wait, could one report them to Cloudflare for that? I'd imagine it depends on the severity of it all, but one could very well do so, no?

2024-02-08 22:26:35 UTC

Why do all the goddamned pedo instances use fucking Cloudflare?

@npub1f8l…7frq the only thing I remember about the first season was that it sucked, it wasn't really Halo, and all you could hear were Master Chief's loud ass clunky footsteps.

2024-01-19 23:44:39 UTC

I have this distinct feeling that Halo (tv series) season 2 is gonna suck just like the first season.

NEKOPARA Vol. 1 can run on Windows XP just fine and I am not yet going to explain why I know that

2023-11-29 02:11:00 UTC

Pleroma needs drafts so that I can store my terrible posts and not have to publish them

@npub1897…x35d @npub1f8l…7frq you mean, they don't want to listen to any other opinions than theirs, and as a result not hearing the opposite opinion's arguments only leads them to believe they're the only one in the right because they've just never known (or wanted to know) the other, or they just don't want to accept that said opposite has any validity at all?

@npub1f8l…7frq by emphasizing one's freedom to listen (implying the freedom not to listen), suddenly it can be way easier to ignore and never think about offensive (to one) thoughts.
but I think you're right, to my dismay. Bluesky appeals to the mind that is looking for a more exact Twitter copycat, those who have not yet thought of jumping ship to a place where these mentalities do not apply, and this network is left fractured between two thoughts.

For Bluesky to feel refreshed, truly appealing to everyone, it needs not to specialize, capitalize on the former like it currently is, in tandem limiting what its audience is. Only then, when they appeal to everyone no matter their beliefs, will it start to feel new, proper, warm and consoling.
I didn't leave Twitter only to be reminded of it.
I didn't agree with human rights just to give anyone more permissions just because of a decision on their feeling of love.
I didn't keep out of politics just to be told what is right and wrong.

I realize the problem on this network, socially speaking.
It's either patronizing, overblown, saturated positivity in being repeated the same things over and over like a mantra (think Russia/Ukraine war, LGBT stuff, anti-Google sentiments, usual "normie" things like that) with a hint of lighthearted posting, poking fun at things, but very rarely are they not related to any of the above to make a stern point completely forgoing the lighthearted nature (think shitposting, on that side it's often to advertise e.g. trans sentiments, and oft ruins the joke in itself to some because they're looking for something fresh, unsaid, a joking look on certain things and they instead receive a reminder to stay in line. rarely are shitposts from there unrelated to said "casual" mantras).
On the other hand ("alt fedi", "dark fedi" as the former side will dissonantly refer to it), it's more of the same thing, only it's negativity. It's more offensive, almost, because it's all so unconventional thoughts. Where no one is happy for living as is, due to a hint of capitalism/communism, or because it's however related to the "tranny" thought, or maybe it's just not "free" enough, in what they enjoy. It's much more serious, and useless reminders of young "normie" lifestyles' correlation to self harm, to not offensively name it, or uninspiring worship of a personality or ideology from the right is about as lighthearted as it gets here too.
My problem? I don't fit anywhere in the two. Either it's avant-garde ideologies that already exist, looking for even more power or rights, passed off as if it were an unheard of, fresh idea, or it's grim, negative feelings, sometimes of yore, that require an entire refactor of our current society. I dislike either.

@npub1unu…zsng not yet. Got lucky when someone passed one to me.
Also, you likely don't want to go there.

2023-09-07 13:21:42 UTC

Bluesky still is an echo chamber composed of people who think they're tough shit for having a leftist opinion, disliking the same things as usual and repeatedly screaming what's already been said before, with no opportunity to hear or discover any other voices.
So it's Twitter.

2023-09-04 22:01:40 UTC

oh yeah now I have my own instance, I could follow whoever I want without other people noticing and judging me

@npub1unu…zsng not interested in a drumpad specifically, and that probably is expensive, though I like the idea

2023-09-03 02:10:53 UTC

New albums are releasing in Atmos now.
Just listened to one and I did not need to do any of this just to hear the reverb of vocals and guitar hitting the back of a pub (in the case of Royal Blood's yesterday release)

2023-09-02 03:56:16 UTC

ideally if I'd want to do DAW stuff I should probably get a MIDI keyboard of sorts, the Arturia MiniLab 3 looks like just the right thing for what I'd do.

@npub1unu…zsng that's actually pretty impressive, then again it's mostly electro stuff but damn

2023-09-01 01:51:34 UTC

server is staying at around 150 KiB/s max when idling, which is probably not that big of a deal but I am concerned to see that number grow over time and cause more and more issues. perhaps I am being paranoid however. I'm now following 24 accounts across 14 instances, and that's not it yet.

@npub1f8l…7frq yeah no shit, this is just the most normie thing imaginable, that already exists on mastodon.social and mstdn.social, only you won't have to gatekeep your posts and won't need to either 1) wait ten thousand days 2) suck anyone off, for an invite code.

2023-08-25 14:59:16 UTC

@npub1unu…zsng that could probably be done, albeit with a concerning amount of security vulnerabilities, as well as fucky outdated dependency hell (I doubt many things still support 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2)

2023-08-25 14:32:29 UTC

That was remarkably easy.

2023-07-03 01:11:17 UTC

how the fuck is running Pleroma, a social network program that actively federates with other services to store their posts and users, less intensive than a fucking Minecraft server

2023-07-02 22:07:44 UTC

how strange, we ARE federating with other instances (receiving posts from others), but we're usually lacking behind quite a lot, and there's no consistent pattern as to what it's federating.
