Listening to NPRATC, a Frank Langfitt story about the “Charney Sibs” who are *dozens* of biological children of a single fertility doctor.
Many of them are doctors. Multiple OB-GYNs & at least one urologist, Also, many accomplished academics.
It really makes me wonder about the nature of heredity. These people didn’t grow up in a random sample of households, they grew up with parents who could afford the best fertility doctor in Philly. So this isn’t evidence really. It just LOOKS like it.

@nprofile…ds0l I think all Gothic cathedrals have that feel. They didn’t have anything like real engineering to predict whether a building would fall apart under its own weight. They had really good educated guesses based on stuff falling apart under its own weight.

@nprofile…sxam NatGeo (a Disney operation… ) recently aired a 2-part series on the Polynesian voyages. Very much worth a watch. The hypothesis there was that it was the creation of the double-hulled canoe (basically a catamaran) which made it possible to make the longer leaps from the Samoa/Tonga region to Aotearoa, RapaNui, and Hawaii. Based on this article, climate seems to have provided the motivation.
And it is absolutely astounding what Polynesians did.

It’s every website that is part of the non-oligarchic web. Non-tech businesses have none of that traffic. I’ve still got dozens of sites in shared hosting at work that I barely need to monitor, while the machine I nurse for the ASF SpamAssassin project has been pounded into catatonia repeatedly, necessitating extreme measures.

WOW has done a mix of ignoring me and providing lame excuses for why they can’t give me any IPv6 to supplement my /29 IPv4 block. The simple fact that Comcast is doing IPv6 may hit the right point of attack.
Or it may just get me off my ass and switch.

I maintain a heterogeneous MSP environment for backup which consists of a collection of sh scripts (they mostly run on FreeBSD) with (c) notes dating back to 2004, with 5 authors, 4 of whom are no longer my cow-orkers. As the unfortunate 5th, I am still doing tweaks to catch edge & corner cases >20y after the 1st author had the idea that rsync, shell, mt, & standard POSIX tools could be assembled into a decent free backup world.
