Frostsnap
Frostsnap is a new project that aims to redesign the tools people and organizations use to secure their Bitcoin. The project is based on the idea that each person is unique in terms of what they know, the devices they own, the places they have access to, and the people they trust. Therefore, the way individuals secure their Bitcoin should reflect this uniqueness.
The current standard setup for most users is a single hardware wallet with a pin number and a physical backup of the seed words. However, Frostsnap believes that more powerful access policies, such as multisignature (multisig), should be more accessible to users. Multisig wallets are protected by multiple keys, requiring a certain number of signatures to spend the funds.
Frostsnap is leveraging breakthroughs in cryptography, such as FROST (Flexible Round-Optimized Schnorr Threshold) and Bitcoin's taproot upgrade, to rethink how people approach their security. The goal is to make multisig easy for everyone, from individuals and families to large companies.
Key features of Frostsnap include:
• Configurable Security Policies: Users can define and adapt their access policies to suit their needs. They can change devices belonging to their multisig without having to make any on-chain transactions.
• Defending Privacy: Frostsnap transactions are indistinguishable from other transactions, helping to maintain user privacy.
• Comfy Backups: The only requirement for users is to keep a threshold number of devices or their simple backups. If a device is lost, it can be replaced without any on-chain transactions or the need to create a new wallet.
• Lower Fees: Regardless of the threshold or number of devices used to secure Bitcoin, the transaction fees using Frostsnap will be the same.
• Cryptography Empowering Individuals: Users can use the same workflow they use to sign Bitcoin transactions to sign other things such as Nostr.
• Organizational Control: Organizations can distribute the responsibility of custody among company operators, leaving no single point of failure.
Frostsnap is currently being distilled into user-friendly Frostsnap signing devices, and development is well underway. The team behind Frostsnap includes Nick Farrow (CEO & Engineer), Adam Mashrique (Hardware Lead & Engineer), and Lloyd Fournier (Architect & Cryptographer).

Core Scientific Filed Its Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Plan
Core Scientific, a Bitcoin mining company, has filed a restructuring plan in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas Houston Division as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
The company has been consulting with key stakeholders to decide on the future shape of the firm post-bankruptcy. Core Scientific's financial situation has improved since filing for bankruptcy, thanks to higher Bitcoin prices, an increased network hash rate, and lower energy costs. On the plan's effective date, holders of allowed debtor-in-possession (DIP) claims will receive full satisfaction of their claims, either in cash or an agreed-upon alternative, and any liens granted to secure the DIP claims will be terminated.
Core Scientific had previously received permission from the bankruptcy court to take a loan of up to $70 million from B. Riley, one of its largest creditors, to pay off an existing DIP financing loan.

On June 20, 2011 the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) turned the tables and declared they were pulling the plug on #bitcoin donations. This surprising move came just five months after EFF warmed up to bitcoin as a fresh fundraising avenue and curiously, barely a week post-Wikileaks announced they had almost no other donation alternatives but bitcoin.
EFF laid out three key reasons for their decision:
* The potential legal pitfalls surrounding Bitcoin.
* The challenge of transforming Bitcoin into traditional currency.
* The desire to steer clear of any misinterpretation that EFF’s acceptance of bitcoin donations meant an endorsement of #Bitcoin itself.
Back then, Bitcoin was still finding its footing, and EFF’s careful approach was understandable. And they didn’t just stop there, they thoughtfully set up a Bitcoin faucet to return all their donations to the community. But, there's that lingering thought - imagine if they had HODLed onto those bitcoins... 😅

Don't gamble with shitcoin casinos! Holding your coins on these platforms means giving up control, not to mention the risk of personal information being leaked. The safest bet is to practice self-custody.

Exactly! It’s just crazy it took them this long to figure out Lightning. Well, concentrating on shitcoins instead of building on top of the only robust system messed up their time horizons. These businesses may feel like they are winning in USD terms, but in a long run they’ll either have to go full-on #Bitcoin or lose market dominance.

Bitmain’s S19 Mining Rigs Dominate Bitcoin Network’s Hashrate
A new study published by Coin Metrics introduces a novel way to analyze Bitcoin mining, allowing researchers to identify specific mining rigs contributing to the network's hashrate and evaluate their energy usage and efficiency.
This research has shown that Bitmain's Antminer models, especially the S19 series, hold a majority share of the Bitcoin network's hashrate. The study also allows for an evaluation of network efficiency and a comparison to competitor positions, concluding that the current network composition is incredibly efficient.
Additionally, the study found Bitcoin's energy consumption to be around 16% less than Cambridge University's Centre for Alternative Finance and Digiconomist's estimates.

Blockstream to Unveil Their ASIC Miner in Q3 2024
#[0] , the CEO and co-founder of #[1] , dropped a bombshell during the company's debut media briefing on Tuesday — the wait for their ASIC miner is almost over, with a launch expected in the third quarter of 2024.
This follows Blockstream's acquisition of Israeli mining hardware maker, Spondoolies, back in 2021, whose core crew is now part of Blockstream's mining division.
