Dietary restrictions mean that most store bought ice cream is off limits for me. I checked out ice cream makers but hesitated because of cost / another appliance in a tiny kitchen. Then, I dove into the no-churn universe.

Ohhh, guess who spoke too soon! I am hauling out all my winter running gear and I realize that my the liner of my shell jacket (nylon with a polyurethane liner) is ripped in a couple of spots. How does one repair that? Can I use a bicycle tube patch? Or maybe a camp mattress patch? Any MacGyver recommendations?

Doing a victory lap of the kitchen with my sewing bag! I have cleared my to-mend/modify/tailor pile! All done! Woot!
I am most pleased with swapping out the velcro on one of pup's jackets with a buckle. Whenever a backpack or whatever dies, I save all the hardware like a magpie! Always comes in handy!
Very impressed with my sewing machine for handling hemming my snow pants for running! She cruised through all the jeans!
So satisfying to be finished!

The big thing I took away from this model is infrastructure. Force drivers to slow down with infrastructure and provide separate spaces for pedestrians. The environment changes the behaviour. I don't think people change on their own.

Every time I access healthcare, at least one of the doctors is sniffling, snuffling, clearing their throat, coughing, technician is sneezing (rather theatrically!!), reception has a cough, and no one is masked.
It's always disappointing when HEALTHCARE workers are doing nothing to prevent virus transmission. Big "You had one job" energy.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) researchers found 30% of those infected with COVID-19 in the pre-Delta period (March to December 2020) developed long COVID, or post-COVID Condition (PCC).
Of those, 3/4 did not return to prior health within 60 weeks of initial infection. Not returning to pre-COVID health was associated with symptoms including respiratory problems, gastrointestinal symptoms, & chronic fatigue syndrome-like symptoms.

Despite going to four different grocery stores this week to get ingredients for the next few countries in our #AroundTheWorld #CulinaryAdventures I was not able to get celery salt. So I am dehydrating celery leaves to make my own. Smells amazing!
I am making four spice mixes for the next few recipes and I am so excited! Growing my spice rack is one of my favourite parts of this adventure!

I donate to Parkdale Food Centre and the volume of food is enormous. Same with Shepherds- our neighbours are in rough spots, in need of food and shelter. Ottawa Food Bank is unable to meet the demand with 30$ million. Across the whole sector, demand is high and rising.

wow! Bear! Cool! I have only had two bear encounters on the trail- one my bear bells had fallen off my waist band and as I looked around for them, a bear crossed the trail!! Bear lumbered off unconcerned with me. The second, I passed alongside and the bear didn't even acknowledge me. Black bears tho. Not sure how I would feel about it after dark tho!! Sounds like a great hike! 24F is starting to get chilly!

All that grief, anger, work, loss, & sadness doesn't fit neatly into a palatable response about my "health journey" when the recipient found it unpalatable that not protecting disabled people was eugenics.

I am disappointed with humanity and exhausted with the extra work and grieving all the stuff I can't do - and that doesn't even touch on my "health journey" (because fuck my life, on top of eugenics we have sexism and autoimmune diseases don't get diagnosed, treated, and researched because patriarchy - so I have to become an expert on my conditions. I picked a crappy group of people to have in my foxhole - they are all out dancing in the field "living their best lives" and playing chicken with their long term health and mine.
I thought for sure that the union people would understand that it was a labour issue. Nope. Left-wing? Not really. Accessibility? Only on paper & only if they don't have to actually do anything. Critical thinkers? I have never seen discourses of governmentality swallowed so quickly 6/?

I'm so disappointed in my friends and family.
People who I thought were critical thinkers, left-wing, labour activists, and claim to be progressive, independent thinkers are uncomfortable with sticking out by wearing a mask. Totally ignoring that covid denial is capitalist eugenics, covid denial is a labour issue, covid denial is an accessibility issue, covid denial is a disability justice issue.

Torn between a firehouse of complaints and just not responding anymore. I don't want to have to constantly convince people that it would be nice to be accommodated, that it would be nice to be protected, that it would be nice if they gave enough of a fuck about me to put on a mask.

I'm torn between responding with a fire hose of complaints about trying to navigate healthcare in a system that doesn't give a fig about my health, about how exhausting it is to lead the charge & be my own best advocate through the healthcare system, how I can't access diagnostic procedures because the doctors declined to mask while I would be sedated, how I save calling 911 or going to the ER for very special occasions because of the risk to my health 3/?

After 18 months of silence, she has apologized, & now wants to understand autoimmune diseases, my "health journey", my diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, & if there are "lingering issues" (excuse me while I cackle over here at the idea that there wouldn't be lingering issues ).

About a year and a half ago, I was bemoaning to friend of over a decade how "public health" policies were crap because they did nothing to prevent the spread of covid and were based in eugenics - that it was acceptable cost of doing business for those who were disabled or who had "pre-existing conditions" to die. She responded that she saw herself in my complaint, didn't like it, & didn't speak to me again.

Rockcliff Park - flush toilets and sinks with running water. (Thank fuck! - yes, fuck is PG)
