Games That I Missed

Challenged to live-toot games that I, apparently, should have played decades ago? I dabble in #retrogaming, #retrocomputing, #pinball, #3DPrinting, and other stuff as well.

If you're any kind of decent person, I'm happy to be here with you. Your biology and choices don't bother me. I'm on the side that welcomes foreigners, LGBTQ+ people, neurodiverse folks, and everyone else who wants to read my thoughts about computers and games and fun.

@nprofile…atnr Agreed. Not sure what's up with that, the text past the cover page is fine. Standard Ebooks is great.
I love old detective novels, I grew up with Sherlock Holmes. Found Lord Peter Wimsey, Nero Wolfe, Parker, and Arsène Lupin at the library after that.
I didn't care much for Christie's Poirot, but I finally read the first of her Miss Marple novels last month, and it was great. I'll probably go back and give Poirot another try soon.

@nprofile…atnr I'm trying out the first Nancy Drew novel, "The Secret of the Old Clock," now that it's hit the public domain. This is the Standard Ebooks (https://standardebooks.org/) edition. I've never read any of the Nancy Drew series but I do like detective novels.
I'm reading with KOReader on a hacked Kindle Voyage.

I run Jellyfin in a docker container on a home server. It works brilliantly, and the kids love it.
But either I'm not as computer-smart as I like to think I am, or backing up the Jellyfin configuration file before upgrading the container image is unnecessarily complicated.
I just wrote a ten-step instruction so that I can do this again the next time I upgrade Jellyfin. Either I'm getting stupider (I won't rule this out), or docker is harder than it should be for a normal computer-toucher.

I moved my 2019 Thinkpad over from Ubuntu Linux to LMDE. I'd accumulated 6 years of crufty configuration files and too many fiddly tweaks, and it was starting to bug me. I'd tried LMDE for the first time on the family computer over the summer, and I liked it. I've grown a little tired of spectacle, and decided to go with a desktop and an installation that are visually more conservative.
20 years ago, I enjoyed spending free hours tweaking compiz effects. I'm getting old.

@nprofile…9vka I was late to the party -- I bought a second-hand Wii U in 2021 -- but it's been a great system for me and my family. Wii U games are cheap here (I'm in the United States, most titles can be had for $10), and it's backwards compatible with my entire Wii and Gamecube libraries and their controllers. Ours is still connected to the TV, I don't expect it'll lose that place for a while.

@npub1rv4…ft5j I was getting to where I thought I was the only person on Earth who preferred MX Blacks. Still my favorite keyswitch, although I admit I have not tried most of the enormous range of keyswitches that have come onto the market in the past ten years.
