Attended a customer day for Dutch local governments. Data sovereignty was definitely a "top of mind" topic, but nobody had concrete plans to take their data off US-owned cloud services at the moment -- it's all at the stage of taking stock. Projects that are already underway to move infrastructure to US-owned cloud services are being continued.

At this moment in my $work we only support the S3 content connector for AWS, but we're working on a way to extend this support for every S3 storage solution that supports all the operations that our content connector uses.
There is a lot of interest in this -- even a customer who went with the Community edition but said they'd become a paying customer again if we had this.

Such a pity -- this could have been turned into an amazingly cool housing co-op.
(Last year we bought a children's daycare facility and renovated it into an awesome house for us -- much smaller scale, but we're so glad we can live in this charming building. And the other villagers are happy that a piece of village history is being preserved.)

The way it was explained to me, is that Shinto is for this life and for beginnings, and Buddhism is for the next life. So Shinto is for births, for growing up, for starting something new, for weddings. And Buddhism is for when you die. "Japanese people are born in Shinto and die as a Buddhist."
(Of course, there is a wide variety of faiths and worship patterns in Japan, so it's not hard to find people where this is not the case!)

A 5.3 magnitude is not a small earthquake, but the Japanese people are so well prepared to deal with earthquakes that it seems like it's only a minor inconvenience to them. I am always so impressed.

So we have a way forward. We can do something to ensure it doesn't get worse, and with any luck it will get better. But she will have to take medication for the rest of her life. She really dislikes being held down, but we'll all have to get used to it.

We also have eye drops to treat the infection in the eyes, so the blood can be re-absorbed faster/easier. In a week, we'll have her blood pressure checked again (maybe the dose needs to be adjusted) and initiate a blood test to try to find the cause of the high blood pressure. And in two weeks time we have another appointment with the eye doctor.

The retina on the left eye has become detached for a large part as well, but that's still attached on two spots. So we now have medication to lower her blood pressure. If all goes well, the fluids will drain and the retina will return to its normal position. With some luck, some vision will be restored in that eye.

But the effect has been that the pressure on the eyes built up, and then fluids can build up behind the retina, which can then become detached. This has certainly been the case with the right eye (the one that went earlier) and it seems unlikely that she can see through it.

Today we had an appointment at a vet hospital with a kitty eye doctor. She looked in Mikan's eye and they also measured her blood pressure. Turns out that her blood pressure is way too high. This could have many different causes, such as her heart murmur or thyroid hormones or something else.

Mikan has been doing so well these past days that I am (almost) ashamed that I made such a drama out of it. She's been relaxing, she's eating, she's walking around and getting pets when she wants. She's been adjusting very well, which was very encouraging for us. We've certainly calmed down a lot.
