It was heartening to see the sea of people protesting yesterday. Not enough to overcome the disheartening feelings of seeing so many without masks.
We're never going to see an end to this thing. More of the population is going to continue to be disabled, the general public and the fascist regime will disregard it, and the regular plebs will carry on claiming ignorance and every and anything else to explain what is obvious to us few.
I'm a little salty. Our patient count has never seen ZERO for more than 24 hours, and while we at least are in an area of the country where infection rate is low, it is low and STEADY. Can't shake it. Hospital is ending its mask mandate.
While I am currently #novid , when (when and not if) I do finally catch it for the first time, my resolve rather than diminish will become exceptionally more sharp in effort to not catch it again. I'm certain it will damage my mental health even more than it already has. So you see, it is important to me not to catch it the first time.

Got my early start test tomatoes upsized to their 6 inch pots where they'll stay until they go outside. Getting ready to start Cosmo and Monarda seeds in the seeding rack and maybe the Alyssum if I have room. Also got some Foxglove seeds started. And got some USB fans going to help with the ventilation this time around. Things are chugging right along.

I also grabbed some hairy vetch seed with the intent of seeing if I can get some started as a cover crop in the flower beds. they are in dire need of enrichment. I will have to commit to not letting them go to seed, which I think I can do, and it should do nice things for the beds. I have a currently unused semi-shade bed that mostly grows weeds, and if I can get some vetch on it, I might have a viable space for some other flowers this Spring.

Been putting off gardening stuff for a while (winter cleanup, etc), but decided to take some time to clean up the dead pots from this last year (mostly spent basil and some tomato starts that never got planted). Got the soil sorted and enriched. Ready for this spring. Lots more to do. Need to get the tomato bags out of the rain so they'll dry out some for me and stop leeching away all the stuff I put in them. Then I can amend the soil and get those ready too.
Also getting a jump on things by getting some thyme started in the seeding rack inside. I'm going to start 4 - 6" inch pots and I expect they will remain indefinitely in the rack. I have a deck pot where I last had some thyme growing, and when things warm up enough, I'll move some of it out there. But this should keep a good supply.
Lots more tomatoes planned for this year. I also have thoughts of trying some potatoes. Also lots of flowers and herbs. Lots to distract me from the rest of the shit.

And while we have our feathers ruffled about the latest papers to withhold presidential endorsements, just remember that tomorrow, people will forget and business will continue as usual. The system is operating perfectly and exactly as it was designed. The fundamental problem isn't the papers or the oligarchs running them. They are a symptom.
When we finally make the decision to support each other in a way that allows us to take back control and remind the machine owners who turns the wheels, then change will happen. Not a millisecond before.

I think the greater point is that things like far-uv make a difference versus nothing at all. Combined with improved filtration, it can lower exposure rates for public venues. But nobody cares. There's is no incentive to invest when COVID is over and the mystery summer flu that is leading to increases in POTS and other long term debilitating conditions doesn't really exist. At least not in their minds.

far-uv light will destroy COVID in the air in seconds when lighting sources are properly overlapped. Works indoors. Attached outdoor venues. Safe for skin and eyes.
Technology exists to help make this problem go away. The inertia is governed by those who continue to make the assumption that they won't be affected who also have no regard for those who are vulnerable.

it is a good article and I relate in many ways, but it is very disturbing as a COVID-conscious person to see the article promoted with a headshot of the scientist wearing a mask with an exhalation valve. For me, it taints the entire conversation, and it also subconsciously promotes the idea that masks with exhalation valves are safe to use. Sure. It's safe for the person wearing it, but not safe for the people around them if they themselves have COVID.

Writing a letter to over a decade-long estranged family is difficult. But I opted to break out a new pen and find a somewhat neutral ink.
I recently picked up the new Monteverde Innova Green carbon fiber. It joins the original black/gray that I have. It writes very smooth with a steel Medium nib, and I really enjoy the weight and form of the Innova line. Classy, but not over the top.
I paired it with the Noodler's Liberty's Elysium. I did not pick it for the name as much the color, but there is a certain irony of it.
I used my light up tracing pad with a printed out line reference so I could write on blank paper. Works extremely well for that. I'd highly recommend getting one if you don't have it. There are plentiful versions and they are not too expensive.
I hope your current writings are less involved. 🙂
