Having taken people who aren’t gun people to the range I always take a selection of my collection. See what they like. M1 carbine is always a fan favorite. AR15 not so much. I’d use my carbine for self defense but some of them are junk. They’re also expensive.
Then again when people ask me what gun they should get my questions are usually what they want it for and do they have a gun they aren’t thinking of that will do that if they take the money a new gun would cost for ammunition and range time in preference to buying a new gun without being able to afford the new gun, instruction and range time.

Used some the other week while I was camping. Melted some over the fire in a cast iron skillet. Then I cooked 2 pounds of bacon, left the grease in the skillet and cooked the steaks. Best steak I’ve had in a minute.

I did some training in the desert for a month 15-16 years ago. It was a good 110-115 Freedom degrees most of the time. I’m still not sure which is worse a dry 110-115 or 92-97 Freedom with 65-70% humidity.

Patton didn’t have to wear every medal he was entitled to so he could impress people. Medals also get handed out for things you wouldn’t think warranted a medal. That was my experience anyway. Might have just been the unit I was in but I doubt it.

Don’t get me wrong devices make it easier so more people do it but if all this stuff hadn’t been invented I’d still be inclined to read a book over interacting with people most of the time. In that respect I think I might interact with people more now that I can do so from in the backyard or wherever without actually having to go to where they are which I’ve never been inclined to do and I only got a smart phone 10 years ago when I was 27.

Easy. I leave everything on silent and do not disturb. Both the device and all the apps on it. My big hitter is listening to podcasts and audiobooks but I don’t really see that any different than constantly having my nose in a book which is what I did before I had devices. Listening might even be better because I’m doing other things while I listen.

Sell it at auction for pennies on the dollar ASAP so they can get the couple thousand the property tax was. Next delinquent tax auction for my county is November 4th. Looks like they have one a year. You get 120 day grace period to be extorted late so once a year in November makes sense.

I fix my coworkers mistakes for a living so the workload varies. They make the products on the line and when a mistake is made in a unit they send it to me and I fix it by hand. My belt holds 11 units before it’s backing up the main line and I don’t like to have downtime. I routinely skip meetings as a waste of my time. No one’s said anything to me yet so I guess I’ll keep skipping them.

I work two weeks on days and then two weeks on nights. I’ve noticed I get hungry at certain times of the day when I would be eating if I was on the opposite schedule. If I don’t eat anything I go back to not being hungry in half an hour. I usually only eat once or maybe twice a day.

I don’t think violence solves this issue. Well short of a genocide one way or the other though I fervently hope no one involved is so inclined. I’m going to weigh in as someone who is watching the small town my family has been living in and around for almost 300 years turn into urban sprawl for a large metropolitan area 15 miles away. For the most part it’s internal migration within the US. We won’t be rude to newcomers. Mostly. If you complain about the weather, the bugs or the way we do things then we’ll ask if you need help moving back up north. None of us like the extra infrastructure that has to be built, a dozen schools in my lifetime. The extra traffic. All the forest being clear cut for housing developments. The fact that now maybe we can’t just go shoot a .22 at cans in the back yard without some Karen calling the cops. Maybe it’s wrong to tar everyone moving here with that brush. It’s easy to do though and really we don’t know any of the newcomers from Adam. They are easy to spot though. Well. Easy to hear anyway.
Like I say I won’t be rude to you unless you start complaining about the place when ain’t nobody from here asked you to move here. That’s most of us but, and I’ll project here with conversations I’ve had with other people whose families have been here for generations. None of us particularly care for it if the people I know are any indication. That’s likely a function of numbers. Hundreds and sometimes thousands a year every year? Why would anyone expect us to like that?

Yep. I buy 10 a week. With occasional one time purchases. I suppose I could eat Ramen noodles and Vienna sausages every day to up that but between taxes, food, rent and utilities that 30 an hour I make goes pretty quick. Plus the big hitter of paying off the debt I ran up in my 20s of course. Haven’t added anything new to the debt in years. How many people just getting into bitcoin are also paying off at least 10-20,000 in debt? Whether it’s credit cards, student loans, a car. Whatever it might be.

That’s sad to hear.
It isn’t quite that bad in my home county but prices are shooting up. Part of it’s inflation. Part of it is we’re one of the top growth counties in the state that had the most growth as a portion of population last year. Bids the price of things up. Seems like every other election we’re having to vote on a property tax increase to pay for all the new schools and teachers. That doesn’t help matters any. I still think it could be avoided here if reforms were made to the building codes. It could at least be lessened. I don’t see it happening though.

Testing my new purchase. Sun is starting to come out some. It was charging even with a goos bit of cloud cover though. 30 watts if you use both ports. Folds down to 8.5x11, only weighs a couple pounds. Comes with two carabiners so you can run it down the back of your pack and use it while you are on the move. I’ll give it a more in depth testing in a couple weeks when I go camping for a week. Couple things. Some of us won’t have security agencies. At least at anything beyond a basic tier. There’s other options. For some of us anyway. I got thousands of relatives in this county and the adjacent one. Call it a 50 mile radius. We’ve all got weapons. That can be a ready built equivalent for those eligible for membership but one based on the honor system. Settling it in court also assumes both parties, whom presumably think they are in the right, are willing to accept part of the whole as a compromise or abide by a ruling against them when no one can really intimidate them into it. It also assumes they value giving up what they see as their legitimate claim over spilling blood. Small stuff? Sure. Big stuff? How much blood we talking? How much of it is on the other side? How much is on your side? What are your chances of victory? Those conflicts happened all throughout history in the absence of a state. Maybe they don’t if we get rid of the state but I wouldn’t count on it.
I was talking more about paying the piper in terms of the blood on one’s hands. Government advocates being culpable for everything the government does to keep order. Anarchists like myself being on the hook morally for things like duels and feuds that might very well be inevitable under our preferred system when we could prevent them by exercising violence against everyone on a lesser scale constantly to prevent large flare ups here in there by having an organized force with an effective monopoly on force. Us anarchists making the decision that a certain amount of blood being spilled in disputes where both parties think they are in the right and have sufficient force projection to prevail flare up as the cost of our system being in place. Just like statists should accept the moral negatives of the state as the cost of implementing a system that puts the kybosh on those flare ups.

I wish I could find it on YouTube now but years ago I watched a video of a man and woman in public taking turns being abusive to each other to see how many people intervened. The difference was night and day. Their colleagues even stopped people that passed by and talked to them. One of the guys they stopped who walked by the woman being abusive to the man was an off duty cop and even said he would have stopped if it had been the man acting the same way to the woman.
People seem to have a tendency to infer motives to why people do or don’t do things. Are people giving someone a pass based on gender, either way, or are they giving a pass they would give to someone of either gender. Is it because they don’t believe the other person for reasons that have nothing to do with the relative genders?
It’s like all the culture war stuff. If you think everyone is looking at world a certain way you’ll find plenty of examples that are false positives.

In the absence of a state which completely changes the equation because people can’t contract their violence out to the state? Dunno. Some people would likely be more violent. Once those people are likely killed, they likely won’t be jailed which is a continuous drain on resources that is less likely to occur in the absence of taxation, the violence drops off. That’s the problem. We don’t see the violence now because it’s all one sided and we call it things like taxation.
In the absence of a state you have to respond to all sorts of things that not responding to now is an option. If you look like a coward that’s a giant come fuck with me sign. So the answer is likely in some ways more violence and in some ways less.
If we’re talking about in the presence of a state the violence is spread out. The state handles it all and has enough power that most people are forced into compliance which is violence when used in a way that would be violent if done by other people. Taxes. Fines for things like allowing smoking in your restaurant. People that support having that state as the alternative to an anarchy get to own all that though as the cost of doing business. Whether they work for the government or not. None of us get out clean. Whatever the system the piper has to be paid.

Depends on the circumstances. And the individual. Some will be. Some won’t be. That is different people will have different thresholds on when it’s not worth exercising violence to defend themselves. I can’t answer that question for anyone but me. I’d generally be more inclined because it’s less likely a group would have sufficient power to make resistance to their aggression futile.
I’d have the same right to use violence to stop someone stealing an apple from my tree if I catch them at it as I would to use it to stop them if I caught them at digging up the gold that is my life’s savings buried under that same apple tree. In one case I probably won’t consider it worth it. In the other? Depends on if I’m armed.

A system with a state is inherently violent. A state is merely an organization with sufficient means of violence that no one challenges them. It’s just not worth it. Until it is.
In the absence of a state each individual/group gets to decide when it is or is not worth it for themselves. And in the absence of the state would have all the weapons they want and likely be more skilled in the use of them than is the norm under the jurisdiction of a state that has a functional monopoly on violence.

What’s to resolve? If they think they’re claim is legitimate and we don’t? Not because we dispute the facts of the case but because we interpret them differently. I would freely acknowledge, depending on the tribe, that they were in the area previously. That would not be the same thing as acknowledging their claim of ownership to the specific land in question. If they think being in the area prior to my family does mean that then there is an impasse and if neither side is willing to relinquish their claim a conflict. And once the first person is killed then it’s about murder. Specifically if they killed a member of my family that’s murder as far as my family is concerned since my family member would have been defending a legitimate property claim in our eyes. Likewise if my family member kills one of them in self defense, defending in our eyes, our legitimate claim that’s murder to them since their person died attempting to protect their legitimate in their eyes claim. Then we would really have something to fight about.

I’m peaceful. That doesn’t change the facts though. In the absence of a large force with a monopoly on violence people will be there own protection. Which is fine as far as it goes. You don’t get that without having conflict when two parties have different interpretations of how property rights are applied in a given situation. Like I said sometimes one or both sides will decide not to enforce their claim to the property right. But that won’t always happen. For instance if someone came up and said they had a claim to acreage that’s been in my family for centuries we got a problem. I use that example because in my view property rights are established by homesteading specific acreage. Not by roaming through an area without ever approving it. The descendants of people who roamed that land hundreds of years ago or thousands of years ago before the groups that were here then might feel differently about it. In the absence of the governments of Lexington County, the state of South Carolina and the United States of America there is nothing to stop either side from using violence to enforce or defend their claim as they see fit.

Yes and those systems are kept honest by the knowledge that if they stop being honest Clan A might very well decide to burn it all down if you push them far enough. Sure they might lose but that sort of fight is likely a Pyrrhic victory when you don’t have a large outside force coming in to spread the costs out or wipe out Clan A before they can kill enough members of the other clans to make it a Pyrrhic victory. Leaving aside of course that most of the clans are probably interrelated at some level if they have been in the area any length of time.

It’s amazing how many libertarians and libertarian adjacent people don’t understand that people don’t process information the same way at a fundamental level. This means that even people who use the NAP to govern their actions will not interpret the NAP the same way in a given situation. So yes. Both sides in a conflict can actually think the other side violated the NAP on them and they are acting in self defense. Both sides. At the same. The chaser? You probably aren’t changing most people’s minds about their interpretation. Especially if their wellbeing is tied to their interpretation.
Nothing stopping you from defending yourself in any situation of course but when you and yours have to bear all the costs win, lose or draw against them and theirs, I hope it was worth it. Especially if your talking about a group local to you. The reality is if someone decides to end you and isn’t a complete moron about it you are done. It’s a rifle shot from 300 yards. Its a ball peen hammer to the back of the skull while you are walking down the street. Don’t forget that the family of the person you self defensed is still in the area and their response will be governed by their interpretation of events. We lose sight of that several generations into a society where the government has power enough to put the kybosh on most of that and people being used to using the state to handle disputes with one another and retaliating for wrongs.

There’s a difference between living somewhere, legally or not, and being part of the community. Just moving in doesn’t give you that. My area is going through large scale migration right now. Citizens moving in from 1,000s of miles away. All legal. My family has been in this county for 300 years. Well. It will be 300 years in 2045. I don’t figure to be the one to leave. Even if people are ruining it. I figure that all dries up as the current financial system becomes less and less able to build 1,000 homes at a go and sell them later instead of a few people moving in and building houses as they move. I’ll say it though, when people move into an area and start wanting to raise taxes to pay for more schools and teachers I start to get onboard with not having the vote until you’ve lived in a community for 10-15 years.

You don’t but why should the people with a long term generational share in the company trust you or think you should have a say because you bought shares last month.
