I have an autographed copy of that book. TBH his best material was already in the past by the time he published his first book.
He was like the silent film actors who couldn't make the change to the talkies. This early material was all text with some pics, but when he tried video content he fell flat on his face because his appearance and demeanor didn't match the persona he had created.

Probably another side effect of the inherent biases in US combat medical training. The assumption is that casualties get evacuated and receive proper medical attention quickly, so wounds can be evaluated and unnecessary TQs removed before they cause damage due to lack of blood flow. In that context better safe than sorry. In the context of delayed evacuations or worse, you really need people to have the training to only use them when absolutely necessary.

The only training I've ever had on the job was for stuff related to specific equipment we were acquiring and even that was very sparse and basic. Only comprehensive training I ever received was in the military.
The problem these days is with credentialism so rampant most people have to spend a significant amount of their own money and time just to get a basic cert to MAYBE get a foot in the door. Then they have to compete with scabs from the third world who get preferential treatment and aren't held to the same standards.

Well if done right that's the point. Narrowing down the possibilities helps with not having to devote brainpower to something you'd rather devote to something else. Also narrows down the number of ways you can fuck something up, if done right.
Most automation isn't done right. You can still fuck something up easily, but the added restrictions just makes it harder to do what needs doing to correct it.

I'm seeing this with critical infrastructure too. They tear down an old section of the facility to rebuild something more "modern." The so-called upgrade is more rusty and dilapidated after a year in service than stuff built 40 to 60 years ago.
It isn't that money isn't being spent on infrastructure. It IS being spent, but what's being purchased is of substandard engineering, less reliable and poorly constructed, usually by third world scab labor pretending to be skilled tradesmen.

I saw this myself when I told a boomer about my experience with an antenna analyzer kit I bought from an amateur radio club. The guy who developed it used to be an engineer working for siemens. After building the kit I ran into a few issues getting it to work right. The first was an issue with the final amplifier transistor that was having parasitic oscillations due to being a shitty chinese clone of the original product. I tried a few fixes until finally trying his suggestion of making a “gimick” capacitor with a 10 meg resistor, which worked perfectly. The second problem was a firmware issue with the microcontroller that required me to cut a trace and reroute a circuit, as well as load new software to compensate. After that it worked perfectly and I’ve built several homemade antennas with it. But the boomer told me I should ask for a refund.
I mean, it’s a hobbyist kit that allowed me to make a working antenna analyzer at a fraction of the cost of buying something manufactured, I learned a lot and the guy who developed it helped me without giving me trouble, and the boomer told me I should ask for a refund???

I’m of two minds about the whole prepper/ccw thing. If the place you’re going is so bad you feel like you need to be strapped you should reconsider if that place is somewhere you really have to go to. But these days you never know, and the places you think are safe are, until they aren’t.
We shouldn’t have to live like this though. And we didn’t until very recently.

I have the worst of luck with USB-C. They never seem to latch right in my cellphone or laptop port, no matter how much I try to clean them. They constantly fill up with dirt and grime which requires me to fashion a small pick from whatever plastic I have lying around (never use anything metal) to clean it.
I’ve had the most luck when buying my cables at truck stops, strangely enough. Best buy and walmart cables just plain suck. And don’t even get me started on the inconsistencies in the alleged “standard.”

I’m almost exclusively a recurve shooter, but I’ve had good experiences with the English longbow when I tried it. Though it looks like what they sell on Ali Bow is fiberglass, not wood like what I’m used to. Just make sure you only use feather arrows and not plastic vane arrows with either style of bow. Vanes will fuck your hands up pretty quick without an arrow rest.
Only thing I don’t like about those bows is not being able to change out the limbs. But if they’re that cheap it’s not that big of a deal.
I’m not sure what your draw style is but some people find that it’s best to shoot the tartar style bows with a thumb draw. If you prefer the three fingers style the longbow might be a better choice.

Thing is, if the US gets involved they’re gonna have to pull troops from somewhere else. The military is already stretched pretty thin, and they aren’t meeting their recruitment numbers. They’d have to give up any pretense of being able to protect Taiwan from China if there were an invasion.
I still can’t quite wrap my head around how the IDF got their shit pushed in by the aloha snackbars. The way they just fled and let their tanks and personnel carriers fall into the hands of their enemies. The experts said they were one of the best militaries in the world. I guess things have changed.

Does ukraine even have servicable airbases they can fly the F-16 from? Given how ineffective ukie AD is any F-16s are likely to be blown to bits if they take off from ukrainian territory.
The only way they can get these planes in the air without being blown to bits on the ground is if they fly missions from a third party country. I don’t think the people who really run nato actually want that. Maybe they really ARE that dumb, but I dunno. :shrug_yui:
