Hi Tor,
I am reaching out to inform you of an upcoming news story concerning a
potential deanonymization attack on Onion Services.
What is happening?
On September 9, 2024, The Tor Project received a press inquiry from
Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR, part of ARD, a German public broadcaster) with
a request for comment to their upcoming reporting of "investigative
measures by German and international law enforcement agencies in the Tor
network, in particular the localisation and deanonymisation of onion
services." We complied with the outlet's deadline of September 12th and
answered a series of questions.
The reporter claims to have "evidence that shows that in several cases
German law enforcement authorities were able to locate the Tor entry node
of onion services and thus successfully deanonymise Tor users. V2 and V3
onion addresses were affected at least between Q3/2019 and Q2/2021." The
reporter further claims that "law enforcement agencies used so-called
timing analyses and broad and long-term monitoring of Tor nodes in data
centres."
As of today, The Tor Project has not been granted access to supporting
documents, and has not been able to independently verify if this claim is
true, if the attack took place, how it was carried out, and who was
involved.
In the absence of facts, it is hard for us to issue any official guidance
or responsible disclosures to the Tor community, relay operators, and users
at this time.
We are calling for more information from you.
If you have any information that can help us learn more about this alleged
attack, please email security at torproject.org.

There have been allegations, but no concrete evidence afaik. Gregory Perry, (former NETSEC CTO) sent an email to Theo de Raadt, the BSD project leader alleging that NETSEC developers had helped the FBI insert "a number of backdoors" into the OpenBSD IPSEC implementation. No evidence was publicly confirmed to the best if my knowledge, and open source being what it is, there are lots of eyes on the BSD codebase.

I've always been Ava on this account. I actively used a pseudonym hashtag for a while, but I haven't always shown my face. IMO, if people come to Nostr and all they see are nyms and anon pfps, it will be hard to attract new users and foster Nostr growth.
Nostr is not just for hackers and anons, and it has been said that perception is nine-tenths of reality. People should feel welcome to be themselves on Nostr. People should also feel welcome to set up and do official business here. It's easy to set up multiple accounts for other purposes, so it's a win-win in my book.

I use the #pomodoro method for productivity. I don't use todoist as a productivity tool. It was not my style. **The best tool is the one that fits with your workflow and organizational style (i.e. the one you will actually use)**.
I used #Workflowy for years before switching to privacy-first #Logseq (it's like Workflowy on steroids!) + a free self-hosted instance of #Nextcloud with Nextcloud Deck for team collaboration projects.
Both are free and open source. Logseq also has a premium version with features like Sync and Whiteboards.

We need to develop a system of parent and child keys on #Nostr that can be managed by an admin key. This admin key could potentially utilize multi-signature functionality for added security.
This system would serve two important purposes:
1. It would eliminate the need to create a new npub (public key) in case of a compromised key.
2. It would be particularly beneficial for businesses, especially those that outsource their social media management.
Many businesses hire external individuals or agencies to manage their social media accounts. If any of these individuals compromise the key, either accidentally or intentionally, or attempt to retaliate against their former employer (which has been known to happen), the admin key or keys could lock the child keys of those employees when they no longer require access to the account.
It's unreasonable for businesses to have to navigate this vulnerability when the consequence of failure is having to start a new npub. A hierarchical key system would provide a much-needed solution to this problem.

That is a very big topic. There are so many translations to choose from, it can be a daunting task to know where to begin!
More literal translations of Tao Te Ching tend to miss the concise beauty and contemplative flow of the original Chinese text, while more concise, poetic translations tend to stray from the original Chinese text.
In short, if you want a deeper understanding of the text, aside from or in addition to learning Chinese, owning multiple English translations is the way to go.
**Here are some English translations of Tao Te Ching that I recommend as a good starting point:**
- The translation I have been sharing this time around is from **Stephen Mitchell**. It is a beautifully meditative translation, but not always the most true to the original text. Though when liberties are taken, they are taken in the spirit of the Tao.

- **Stephen Addiss and Stanley Lombardo**, trans. Tao Te Ching. This is a wonderfully unadorned, simple, zen-like translation that has the right "feel" of the spoken original.

- The **D. C. Lau** (Penguin House) translation is considered one of the best (if not THE best) academic translations. Published in 1974, it is missing more recently discovered manuscripts, but if you are looking for a scholarly translation, then look no further.

- Another translation I highly recommend is by **Derek Lin**. It is probably the most accurate as far as a clear understanding of the original Chinese for both scholarly and personal use.
