Yeah, that pretty much sums it all up doesn't it?
How the fuck did America let it go this far, that man should not have been in a position to even run. There needs to be systems in place to stop unqualified, unethical awful people like him coming to power in the first place.

There were projections that without the US, the USSR may still have won, but it might have taken another 3/4 years and the death toll would have been even worse.
They lost what, 21 million people? Its insane.

You're all good. I've heard the term tankies a few times recently, I was put on a list on Bluesky labeling me one. I can assure you I am not one. I do have massive socialist and Marxist leanings, but I would never defend the actions of the Soviet leaders. My political beliefs are more unrealistic ideals of a kind of scientific utopia, not a realistic thing for now, and only possibly in the future where technology allows it.
I do think the USSR did most of the work killing Nazis.

I wasn't trying to obfuscate anything, I have limited characters to work with when cross posting and mentioning how they were on the wrong side of history was the best way I could mention it at all in a single post, kind of the opposite of what you're saying really, I could have just left that sentence out.

2026-03-14 02:51:03 UTC

I made a statement about how Russia did most of the hard work in world war 2 to defeat the Nazis and it was met with a lot of angry comments from Americans. Just look up the facts. I'm not making them up.
Russia was originally on the wrong side of history. Yes America helped speed the war to a close.

1/3 Threads is a very vapid place, it runs off dumb questions and outrage bait. I decided to post a very simple and carefully worded post stating that I think there's not many original British foods, just to see the total madness. It didn't disappoint.
This was an experiment, mainly to see how much abuse I would get from angry blokes and how many times I'd be called an American based off nothing at all.
My post also included a few statements to drive outrage, I said the Irish do better roasts.

Huge juicy strawberries are usually full of flavour! The Wexford Strawberries here in Ireland are rather famous for being huge and crazy full of flavour. I'm thinking, Strawberries but on Pumpkin stems.
I do see how very genetically modified crops breeding with regular unaltered ones might make people uncomfortable.

2026-01-31 20:26:53 UTC

I know a lot of people get freaked out by the idea of genetically modified foods, but - I would love to eat a grape the size of a large melon or a strawberry about the same size. I think they should have an island where they do this called Giant Fruitland.

So I wasn't going to post about this but I just got off the phone with Tesco customer service and I'm shocked.
Last night I was having some soup, Tesco brand Tuscan inspired Bean soup, to be exact, bit down on a chunk of glass that was in there. Taste of blood in my mouth, dent in my tongue, possibly swallowed a small bit... I was worried about it. Also, fucking hell like.
Today I call em up, had already sent an email, they are uninterested, tell me I have to complain in store.

So, this DNA heritage stuff is cool, however I have experienced something really quite odd.
The company I did my DNA test kit with have expanded and updated their database, and in my ethnicity estimate, I went from being almost 100% Irish with a trace amount of Ashkenazi Jew, which was a massive surprise and made me go through a lot of research and ponder all kinds of things such as having distant cousins go through the Holocaust, but no, seemingly that was just a mistake!
0% now.

frankly, how can you not see something as basic as that?
Sitting there telling me because open software exists I should have no issue allowing my music to be used by anyone on the planet for whatever the fuck they like, because someone I never met, from somewhere I've never been wrote some code and decided they would let anyone use that.
Ridiculous equating such utterly unrelated things and then going off on one.

2025-12-13 20:58:58 UTC

- reply

You place a value on something you make, you're equating the values others place on what they make as somehow utterly equal, you're suggesting my individual values on my own work should be exactly the same value as those a computer programmer places on whatever piece of software they code.
I may have music I value less than some code a person spent months or years writing, I may place a value on my music that places it far above the value of anything else I've done with my whole life.

2025-12-13 19:55:51 UTC

- reply

As I already said, I'm not against CC art, but there are perfectly reasonable and valid reasons why some individuals might not wish to have their art CC, and to dismiss their concerns or cheapen their arguments off hand or with responses such as yours, I don't think you are able for the conversation you have said you're seeking.

2025-12-13 19:53:04 UTC

- reply

It's not a lie is it, its a genuine concern you've decided to dismiss and say it's an irrational fear, (illogical), and then you've decided to compare an individual's art to open source software where the makers have already weighed up their own ethical concerns about their own creations, they are not the same things.
I've faced utter weirdos in online communities of indie musicians who have done underhanded weird and petty things, I am not so trusting, and not with my art.

2025-12-13 19:22:44 UTC

- reply

All software is free if you're a thief, as is all music.
But anyway, I'm not making my music CC, and despite asking for a conversation about it, I don't think you wanted one with a different opinion than your own, which seems stuck on comparing individuals art with open source software and the idea of community.
Ones own IP is theirs to do what they want with, to share or not, suggesting this is illogical because it goes against your ideas- rude, and gets a shrug.

I can see a distinction between art and utility software, however I would assume the people putting out open software have considered such issues already and deemed the risk worthwhile for the greater good.
When it comes to my own art however, that's a different matter entirely.

2025-12-13 18:15:25 UTC

- reply

I would be weary of making my music CC, mainly because I wouldn't want it used by people I don't like, for reasons I do not like, as in right wing weirdos, misinformation documentaries and videos, etc etc...
You never know where it might end up.

2025-12-13 14:18:54 UTC

Mastodon, for the last two years has been my favourite social media platform, better conversations, smarter people, etc etc, it has also been the major driving force in my music sales on Bandcamp, thank you for that, it really means a lot.
The other platforms don't come close, however, I am surprised to say, two random interactions on Threads in as many days have lead to me selling music, which is shocking.
I don't think Bluesky has done anything for me at all.

Nobody is ever going to convince me guns should be legal, its a stupid thing for any society.
I am so glad I live in a place they are banned.
It doesn't mean they don't exist, but for the most part- they don't. Literally only countryside folk with licenses (totally fair) and extreme criminals have them over this side of the planet, and considering its automatic prison if you're found with one, they're only really used in extreme criminal on criminal violence.
Nobody here worrys about guns

I've just come back from a lovely Sun Holiday that I was treated to by my wonderful other half. It usually wouldn't be my cup of tea, I've never really done them before but I enjoyed extending the summer and going somewhere new. We went to Fuerteventura, the largest of the Volcano made Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco, owned by Spain. It was an experience. Beautiful scenery, a somewhat Fawlty Towers experience, hyper heat. Lizards and cats and very cheap drinks.

Those jobs as awful stormtroopers should be self limiting, so lets say they are still doing this shit in a few years, lets say post Trump it's still going on, they basically eventually just turn into the USSRs secret police, kidnapping anyone they want.

I mention this mainly because the price of soup has gone nuts over the last 5 years and some of the more premium brands cost like 2.50 - 4 quid, which is insane for soup. I've been trying out various different soups and sauces and things and this is top level. I also discovered all supermarket own brand mayonnaise is shit and should never be used ever.

2025-05-31 08:10:55 UTC

I wouldn't usually randomly advertise food products, apart from Cocopops, which should be a staple meat in every household, but if you're in Ireland/the UK, usually low fat things are shit, but this lentil and vegetable soup from Tesco is actually really nice, it needs some salt and pepper but top tip, it's cheap, it's filling and it's good for you, a rare thing these days. This is a Limnetic Villains approved food stuff.

I begin my exploration into Linux. The old laptop is charging up. I'm downloading an ISO of Ubuntu Studio after careful consideration, I have some other software that I need to make a live bootable USB... So I guess I'll know if it works in about half an hour.

I produce music- record and arrange etc on a Mac, I'm more interested in niche/unique or unusual things I might be able to only find on Linux, and I'm sure there's some software on there I won't find anywhere else, mainly for making weird sounds, experimenting with different workflows on software I don't have access to.

Ok that's good to know, I'm locked in using Mac for music production but I like as many niche ways to make music as possible- and I've wanted to explore Linux for over a decade at this point. I guess the idea would be to use it more like an instrument than anything else, using programs I otherwise don't have access to, so perhaps having the Windows option still there isn't a bad idea.

The only real concern I have is - getting sound to work and keys and all that- will Linux detect the hardware on the laptop, how do I install it to boot up and completely remove windows off the machine, or should I leave Windows on it, duel boot? I don't know about these things, is there a disadvantage to leaving Windows on it? And I have zero clue about how to do all that.

I know right. Hey everyone, check my music out on Bandcamp and Faircamp, lol...
But I do actually want to know.

I know I can probably just go on youtube and find some random dude but I'm here on Mastodon with all you computer boffins and hackers and programmers and such, I have an old Acer laptop, should I put Linux on it, how hard is it to do and get set up for music making, is it worth it, how long does it take and is it going to be hard for me to do? Consider me utterly dim on the subject, like imagine you're talking to someone who can't use a TV remote. (I'm not that dim, but consider me as such).

Great, those fucking things have been pissing me off for ages now. Maybe now they'll vanish, and if more paywalls come up so be it, I'm rapidly losing interest in bypassing them only to see someone trying to sell me biased info or opinion piece drivel.

Tomorrow is Bandcamp Friday. I've got fuck all money for the next 2 weeks, someone bought my discography the other day and I won't starve to death but if you dig obscure indie music of the dark electro rock type pokemon, perhaps consider buying my music tomorrow via Bandcamp! Shares help. Checking my music out and commenting on it helps! #bandcampfriday #music #art #fedimusic #fedimusicians #bandcamp

Also I'm on Faircamp! https://negativevoid.art/limnetic
Thank you Fediverse.

While that seems incredibly petty, I don't want to leave money in there when I exit, they're not nicking my petty royalties!

I wouldn't usually ask because I gave up promoting my music on streaming services about two years ago, however I'm considering cancelling my streaming distribution and changing to a free model or just not at all, BUT... I NEED YOU, to stream and add my music to playlists and such on Spotify and Apple or whatever the fuck you use, because Distrokid won't let me withdraw my royalties until they reach $8, and they are currently at $6. Stream Limnetic Villains music today so I can get money crumbs!

Because of how fucking shit the world is right now, I've decided to half the price of all my music on Bandcamp until the end of Jan AND give 50% off my entire Discography. All my albums are now 4-3 euro individually so you can get all 14 albums for just €25! Https://limneticvillains.bandcamp.com
If I can get 8 discography sales in the next week that'll cover my rent and bills, if you want to help me live and need a nudge to get loads of weird danceable alty indie electronic rock oddness...

I ended up just deleting my account, and just before I did I made a little empty account to keep my music profile up, which I might as well have not bothered doing, I never really use it.
I'm looking at it a bit like Twitter now, I'll keep my handles but leave the accounts blank, mainly for peace of mind.

The file you downloaded should be a zip full of everything, photos, in folders, and a bunch of csv. Files if I remember correctly, they have every convo, list of followers and block lists etc. You should be able to navigate it manually! Unless things have changed. Used to be free websites you would also have to risk trusting - where you could upload this to - and they would remove everything. Upside you keep your handle safe and then you can just stop using the site.

Could all music lovers and such do my friend a little favour, I've been telling him how good The Fediverse and Mastodon is, give the guy a follow, I promise he doesn't post total shit all the time, he gets my official stamp of approval for being down to Earth, making great music and not being an asshole. Lovely little interview.
Sadly it's the end of Radio Free Fedi, and they have been amazing for so many small indie musicians on here, and hosting some artists Faircamps including my own, I think that might continue after the radio station is closed down in Jan, but we need more things like Radio Free Fedi and folk talking about Faircamp and open source things!

Kate Nash is selling pictures of her bum only Only Fans so she can raise money to tour apparently. Meanwhile I'm selling one of my best albums for 2 quid on Bandcamp, and you'll have to imagine my arse, it's actually got 3 cheeks, and there's two arseholes flanking the middle cheek, it has a sort of blue iridescent thing going on and the holes squirt out freezing cold green liquid. Also by the way this isn't me being cocky, I'm baffled sometimes by the small successes I have and my reach. It's bonkers that I released some of my music on a limited run of cassettes and they sold out, really quickly. That's fucking nuts to me.

I'm not in this for money anyway, that's a nice bonus and if I can do good things with it when it comes- great, and like I said there's no way I'm making a living off my art, not currently anyway - but I'm still in many ways in a better position than so many bands and musicians that are way more established in other arenas, including some seasoned live musicians. That's really weird.
On the one hand I'm not complaining, on the other I think it's ridiculous how undervalued music and art is.

Like it's insane to me that a dude I know who has played to hundreds of thousands of people, if he released an album tomorrow, it would sell fuck all copies.
I've done live stuff in the past, been in bands that went nowhere, been in a band that almost went somewhere, but with all that effort- in many ways I'm doing better with how far my music has travelled, than established acts that play twice a week and have a dedicated live fanbase.
I don't understand it.

2024-11-26 09:05:11 UTC

It's a really strange thing to realise that I'm doing better as an obscure indie musician that doesn't do live shows, than many bands I know here in Ireland that have been touring for a decade or two under various guises, in terms of albums I've sold and reach I have online, that's really weird. Some of these guys have been written about in well established print media, interviews, reviews, etc.
It's hard as a musician/artist, and it's not like I'm making a living from this. So it's extra odd!

2024-11-25 08:59:55 UTC

I'm sorry Fediverse, I'm sorry everyone who knows better, but, I have over the last decade slowly formed a taste for McDonald's coffees.
I generally hate massive corporations and I've avoided McDonald's most of my adult life, a lot of my childhood and teenage years too, however, I weirdly like their coffee.
I'm sorry. I know. Bad Marxist. Lapsed. How dare I.
Look, I don't know what happened, I didn't even drink coffee until my mid 20s, and even now I maybe have 2 coffees a week...

Dear Fediverse, for the next two days I'm offering a crazy blow out Bandcamp sale, all 14 of my albums for 10 euro. Https://LimneticVillains.bandcamp.com why? I want to raise some quick cash to buy a friend a present, that's literally my goal. If I can sell 10 discographies over the next two days, brilliant. This is the lowest I've ever priced my music, and I'll probably never do this again. 14 albums! Fill your boots!

You guys all need to find one of those Amazon supermarkets, bring a full basket of shopping up to the self scan, scan it and then pretend 'oh no I forgot my wallet' and then walk out, leaving all the scanned shopping on the self service check out, confusing other customers and slowing down business in the shop while they have to clear away 30 yogurts and 40 for some reason heavily crinkled copies of the Washington Post.
Fun too.

Thanks to someone buying my discography on Bandcamp I thought I'd go out and splash out for a fancy takeaway coffee. It was raining, there was nowhere to sit because all the benches were wet, the coffee was actually pretty terrible, least I know not to go to that place again, I went and got a sandwich and that was also pretty awful but I saw a cool horse, so that was nice. Thank you for buying my music!
