A program that doesn't rely on binaries to be built, i.e can be built from source all the way down, versus requiring a compiler binary somewhere along the way. Look at Core's guix builds

Get Eric Voskuil on citadel or listen to his Bitcoin takeover interviews. The project is solid but, from his words, hasn't taken any third-party funding.
As a dev, libbitcoin is ok to get running and hack on, but it's missing the type of project management that core has. It's not really possible to find out what needs to be done, unless it's behind closed doors. All their comm channels seem dead

No I don't see that note. Jumble didn't render yours as a reply either, but when I click it I see "note not found".
I use jumble exclusively (desktop and mobile) because Amethyst and primal both are way more inconsistent for me.
At this point I'm wondering if a Mastodon homeserver with the nostr bridge will work better than a pure nostr client.

Some would call me a wimpy non-maxi for not believing in BTC as a medium of exchange. I consider it a great, if not the best, store of value and I will HODL until I'm forced to sell or if selling can grant me a major lifestyle change (ex. early retirement).
All the people gallivanting around trying on onboard people to custodial lightening wallets are just LARPing, since it's a type of influencer in the space.
Let's not forget it's still illegal as a payment method in some places. An to callback to your opinion on "permissionless" tech, sometimes it's only a matter of time before it becomes illegal.

ATProto sounds a bit like Pubky but without pkarr and pkdns, but with added complexities, which makes me wonder if Pubky can scale to Bluesky's current numbers. Just armchair speculation from me.
Also the costs and complexity seem like an overall L for ATProto and it seems clear that it's "decentralized" between large entities only.

You have been ragebaiting me a bit lately, but I'll bite on this normal post because I've been saying "99% of all coins are scams" for many years.
To preface, I've been in the industry for 5 years and dealt with the tech/code of more than 25 crypto projects.
My 1%:
Bitcoin (until it becomes non-fungible under Big Brother).
ETH, still a ton of utility, but with scams too heh.
Projects like TRON that basically allow poor 3rd worlders to save money.
Privacy coins (the true cryptocurrencies???)
Some projects are just tech experiments where they want to implement some new finding in cryptography. These are mostly just nerds who want to "just build". I've come across some who aren't even interested in crypto, but the tech allows for research into other areas like compilers and stuff.

I get that the fork is really old, but it isn't really a good look (as Vlad pointed out). I was a bit overwhelmed trying to audit the 37K+ 14K- diff.
It would make me feel better to see only a few commits rebased on Core's release. I suppose I could just cherry pick the important commits myself and maintain my own.
Honestly, as I'm writing this, I might just start running a pruned node and dropping all OP_RETURN data instead 🥲

Struggling to see the benefit of the enclave managing the group members instead of just an admin, but maybe I'm just missing a bunch of details.
For the decentralized enclaves, I've been doing this exact thing using TLS established with quote attestation so that you're doing only trusted comms. Once Intel shutdown the CAS servers and discontinued consumer CPUs with SGX it became a huge PITA lol.
Another thing I've worked on was using distributed (or threshhold) signing of the enclave so that a party can, as you said, collectively agree on a new enclave.

What about the argument that "99% of the OP_RETURN txns were/are <= 80bytes"?

I think a counter argument (from Core supporters) is that there are external services (Slipstream, large exchanges) that will offer the service needed to get these transactions mined. That's why he says that you will need to "pay $80" for the service.
So, while it's likely that a sovereign Bitcoiner cannot propagate these transactions easily from his own node, he can just use the service. This makes sense to me since I can't imagine a sovereign Bitcoiner supporting storing arbitrary data larger than a hash at all. I guess I'm just greedy with disk space still after living through the days of only having a 128GB SSD.

Is there a relay implementation that I can plop on a VPS and have it act as my "home relay", constantly pulling events from my follows, notifications, chats, etc. Then use Jumble, or any other relay browsing client, as the frontend to my own relay?
Is this a dumb idea? Context: ISP starts blocking/filtering my connection to relays and I don't want to VPN all the time.

I'm a Knots supporter, but I'm not sure the CP argument does a great job other than scare people. It is definitely a possibility, but in reality it's mostly just NFT and other market making scams, like experimental side chains and whatever else.
That's why I would be more convinced that Back has to follow what his company's suits are pushing in coordination with other partners in the industry.

At this point it's unrealistic and people who are still using his quotes are making him seem infallible. I guess it's fun to identify as a Maxi and preach it as your religion for some people though 😏
I thought it was well understood that he stood on the shoulders of giants, building something great on concepts that were decades old.
Also, like many software projects, creators are often replaced or advised by others who are more intelligent in particular areas and fields. He stepped away from being a BDFL figure for whatever reason, and now a mixture of human, technological and economical factors have taken over the project.

Oh, no, I misunderstood because I originally wrote out that I think Core needs even more forks or full rewrites.
I believe the opposite, that Core is mostly funded by companies that have specific interests, similar to the large corps that fund and contribute to Linux.
I'm not an expert by an means, but based solely on SLOC, I think it's doable to have at least 2-3 node implementations. I have not looked into libbitcoin very deeply, but maybe since they claimed recently that they can meet full consensus that it could become a viable option as well. Kind of talking out my ass now, so I'll stop.

It's more like "why aren't other implementations of an open protocol being funded or developed?" besides the reference implementation.
This is sometimes met with the answer "oh, it's too complex" or "I wouldn't trust another version". Well that in itself is an issue, maybe not for now, but for the future. Maybe in 10 years [company] will employ all Core devs and then prioritize their own initiatives. Then what?

Wondering if you've noticed the trend (at least in software) of roles in which only a naive college grad would accept? Something that requires excessive responsibility, overworking, putting out fires, all nighters, etc.
Been searching for work recently (13 years exp) and 5-6 years ago I don't really recall this being the case, but I'm noticing it even in shit companies now. 4-5 rounds of interviewing, leetcode algorithm memorization...all that fun H1B stuff

I can't say anything too bad about LTC, except that it's one of the early examples of a fork of the Bitcoin software to make immediate technical changes.
After searching a bit and reading for the past 20 minutes, I could see more things that rub me the wrong way about the project. The MimbleWimble addition was neat though!

My belief is that there can be no altcoin that can match Bitcoin, because of the non-technical, organic nature of Bitcoin.
I guess I can understand utility in an altcoin. This has been demonstrated, notably in true privacy coins (not the fake new ones that have public and private txns), or even networks that provide convenient stablecoin use in countries with extremely volatile currencies.
This probably disqualifies me as a maxi, but I don't really care about that label since I'm probably already a shitcoiner to them for working at an exchange for many years.
To me, a shitcoin is a shitcoin from the start and there is probably no going back. Pre-mining, non-PoW, VC incubation, centralization, marketing campaigns, immediate exchange on-boarding, etc.
All these are indicators of a shitcoin and redemption seems unlikely unless we are all to be taken for fools.

How much of this is related to the natural trend of generations fading into and out of social media platforms?
For example, my generation adopted Facebook and then faded away from it and somehow it was adopted by my parents' generation.
I think we will see this ebb and flow in all platforms and protocols. Once the "next big thing" drops for the Bitcoin community, nostr, too, will be left in the dust and perhaps a minority will stick behind doing whatever they will do.
Disclaimer: I believe that federated protocols will have more success as social media anyway, due to the ability to segregate into defined social communities instead of one giant funnel of slop. I think there is a gossip relay impl for nostr, but haven't seen it used much?
