I asked one of the most esteemed neuropathologists at an Ivy academic medical center:
"What if we have glioblastoma (brain cancer) all wrong?
We believe that tumors start small and grow outward.
What if the diseased state of the nervous system is converging on a point that we then see as 'tumor' at a particular location in the brain?"
His answer shocked all of his colleagues and trainees:
"I've never been asked that question before, and now that I think of it...I don't know how we can claim it is one or the other."
Centralized medicine is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on brain cancer treatment and research...cutting out large chunks of peoples' brains...

In my opinion, the whole of society has been oversold and under-delivered on the utility and value of vaccines.
Including:

People think radiology provides ground truth information about the state of the body.
This is not true for many reasons.
The most important to realize is that any given imaging modality communicates with the body along one field/medium.
E.g. ultrasound conveys information using sound (acoustics) as the medium of exchange.
Xray or CT conveys information using electron emissions.
MRI conveys information using quantum spin magnetization.
This is true with every mode of diagnostics.
The body and mind exist, and thus, communicate along many dimensions.
But, we only survey this information using a narrow selection.

For quite some time I've been thinking about what is going on in this digital alternative medicine space, and what my role would be in it.
I've come to the conclusion that I am in the business of formulating stories and distributing belief.
One of the reasons why the current medical establishment continues to enjoy majority market share is because the people, by and large, believe in the framework of health and disease that corporate medicine is selling.
More than that, it is the de facto framework against which alternative hypotheses are considered.
The media and schools help support this.
By propagating the ideas nested in the modern corporate paradigm, the institutions cement these ideas as the de facto belief system about health and disease.
Which means radicals like myself, are always swimming upstream, so to speak.
For each statement I make about an aspect of health, I have to spend another 3-5 statements unpacking what people have been propagandized to believe.
So what am I doing out here?
Truthfully, I don't really want to sell you a supplement.
I've spent my academic time (both pre and post-Substack) trying to understand several different disciplines and ways of looking at the body & disease.
Because if you truly believe some of the principles I discuss, then your operating manual for navigating health changes drastically.
And, that's enough for me.
I'm weaving a story.

Ever wonder, just how much risk is being reduced by this highly mitochondrial poison we call statins?
In a meta-analysis of 18 clinical trials (which typically look at the highest risk patients with pretty bad cardiovascular disease), all cause mortality was reduced by 0.8%
That's it.
New-onset diabetes with statin use has been observed in about 10% of people who have taken it for a few years.

Top tip:
If you are worried about coronary artery disease it is far more useful to have a coronary CT angiogram done. Noninvasive, simple iV contrast bolus image.
Conventional angiography is far too risky and not worth the diagnostic yield in people who are asymptomatic.
Non contrast CT (aka imaging done to estimate CAC) is incomplete because non-calcified atherosclerotc plaques exist (if jot this majority in younger adults).

Why statins or lipid lowering drugs are attacking the body rather than solving the problem:
Atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease are due to TWO complementary phenomena:
1) Elements of your life (many in your control) are damaging your arteries, leading to inflammation.
2) Your body is responding by repair.
In the process it lays down some fat. This is necessary to healing, because we are made of fat and protein.
Every functional tissue from:
-Static non-regenerative brain, to...
-Constantly replenished flowing blood
Has fat in it. Critical for repair.
However, the more you expose yourself to these inflammatory agents, you promote this cycle of damage + repair.
And the walls start to remodel and thicken.
And you get atherosclerosis.
Then, a stroke or heart attack can be brought on by simple dehydration or a cold.
Now, we get to the good part.
"Standard of Care" has resulted in a vast majority of the population taking Statins.
A drug that blocks production of hormones for communication.
Blocks production of fats integral for hundreds if not thousands of proteins.
A drug that is prescribed if you simply have high cholesterol.
No illness, no heart attacks, no cardiovascular complications of any sort.
The healing element of your body is being imprisoned.
We wonder why chronic disease continues to rise.
Instead, you can focus on what matters:
Stop damaging your body in the first place.
This should be the goal of any good provider.
Often times, this damage is due to recommendations from entities that claim to have your best interest at heart.

What makes allopathic medicine (MD) different from most 'alternative' medicine?
MDs often (not always) come to management decisions on the basis that the body is wrong, and it needs to be intervened on. Be corrected.
Most popular alternative medicines take a different approach.
IMO, the over-riding motifs within alternative practices of medicine are:
-we are not giving the body something it needs
-we are doing something wrong to our body
-both of the above, but to the mind
-and don't forget the soul
This is very different than MDs
We can appreciate this difference:
-your blood pressure is too high
-your blood sugar is too high
-your blood cholesterol is too high
-your [insert organ] is dysfunctional
Most of the solutions proposed are aimed at correcting the measurable manifestation of the problem.
Despite what most MDs are taught...they do, in fact, treat the numbers.
Blood pressure? Treat the #
Blood sugar? Treat the #
Cholesterol? #
We will stick to these 3 for arguments sake.
All of them are prescribed drugs.
Until they aren't enough, and you need surgery.
Nobody stops to think:
-What is accounting for the tension in the body to cause hypertension?
-How am I causing my body to be resistant to insulin?
-Why is my body needing to pump out so much cholesterol?
Your body isn't stupid. It knows what it is doing, very well!
You want to believe that you know more about your body, than your body?
Your body has billions of years of evolved wisdom.
Your mind, not so much.
Even your doctor. Definitely not smarter than your body.
Then, after the medication you are prescribed masks the symptoms without addressing the problem.
Inevitably, the problem gets worse. But you have silenced the feedback mechanism your body was using.
And if your doctor is 'smart,' the drug also adjusts your lab values.
Mask the symptoms ✅
Normalize the labs ✅
Congratulations, now you have no way of knowing if the underlying problem is getting worse or better.
That is until the problem builds-up.
Over years and years.
Until one day...you need something new.
Unexpectedly, the blood pressure and cholesterol you have been masking has contributed to coronary artery disease.
Even the vessels in your brain are getting narrowed.
You have a stroke, or a heart attack.
Now, you need surgery!
Alternatively, all the toxins and inflammation you have been inflicting on your body eventually causes a tumor to form.
Now, we need to cut our a body part.
Irradiate your body.
Inject chemotoxins into your bloodstream.
I think you get it.
Look, I don't like to talk about my profession in this manner.
It's just something that I have been coming to terms with, and trying to understand how we can correct our path.
No matter how bad, we should always strive to improve what we love doing.

I don't have an answer for you because I don't think about physiology and medicine this way.
RCTs are informative, but not the most important thing when appraising research.
First we must understand physiology and life, then we can judge experiments on several factors, chief amongst them is biological plausibility.
Don't care how good an RCT looks statistically.

The poem in appreciation of cholesterol got quite a bit of attention.
I'd like to direct your attention to an article I wrote in August, 2022, entitled
"Cholesterol Good - Statins Bad."
This information is relevant to everyone from the recently retired, to recent graduates embarking on their new career.

✍️ An Ode to Cholesterol
Cholesterol gets a bad reputation - particularly LDL.
We dislike it because we find it insinuated within the lining of our arteries.
We blame it for shortening our lives.
It is important to remember the function that the LDL serves.
It is patching up all the damage you are doing to your body.
Where inflammation and tissue damage go, LDL follows. It is part of the healing process.
So, the next time you want to throw shade at LDL, remember what your blood vessel would look like without it.
Inflamed, fibrotic, leaking, and throwing clots. You'd stroke out in no time.
