I think Bitcoin, in the long term, will positively impact politics & shrink DC.
But until then politics matters.
It impacts your life & it impacts the lives of others often in ways that have lifelong consequences. Dismissing it completely is foolish.

People are always asking me why I chose Robert Moses and Lyndon Johnson to write about. Well, I must say I never thought of my books as stories of Moses or Johnson. I never had the slightest interest in writing the life of a great man. From the very start I thought of writing biographies as a means of illuminating the times of the men I was writing about and the great forces that molded those times-particularly the force that is political power.
Why political power? Because [politics] shapes all of our lives. It shapes your life in little ways that you might not even think about. For example, when you're driving up the Triborough (now Robert F. Kennedy) Bridge in Manhattan in New York, you may notice that the bridge comes down across the East River in Queens opposite 100th Street. So why do you have to drive all the way up to 125th Street to cross it, and then basically drive back, which adds almost three totally unnecessary miles to every Journey across the bridge?
Well, the reason is political power. In 1934, Robert Moses was trying to get the Triborough Bridge built, and he couldn't because there wasn't enough public or political support for the project. William Randolph Hurst, the publisher of three influential newspapers in New York, owned a block of tenements on 125th Street. Before the Depression, the tenements had been profitable, but now poor people didn't have jobs, and couldn't pay their rent. Hearst was losing money on the buildings and he wanted the city to take them off his hands by condemning them for some project. Robert Moses saw that the project could be the Triborough Bridge, and that's why the bridge entrance is at 125th Street. That's a small way in which [politics] affects your life. But there are large ways, too.
Every time a young man or woman goes to college on a federal education bill passed by Lyndon Johnson, that's [politics]. Every time an elderly man or woman, or an impoverished man or woman of any age, gets a doctor's bill or a hospital bill and sees that it's been paid by Medicare or Medicaid, that's [politics]. Every time a black man or woman is able to walk into a voting booth in the South because of Lyndon Johnson's Voting Rights Act, that's [politics]. And so, unfortunately, is a young man-58,000 young American men-dying a needless death in Vietnam. That's [politics]. It affects your life in all sorts of ways. My books are an attempt to analyze and explain that power.

There’s a currency display setting in the settings. But I don’t think that changes how much you can use w/ mobile pay. I’m pretty sure the limit is a fiat limit. When I toggled between USD, EUR, and GBP, it was always 200 fiat units. I don’t see how to make it a bitcoin/sats specific limitation. (I’m on iOS. So maybe it’s different on android?)
I kinda wonder if it was built with the plan to just add lightning to it.
And yes, I’d like if it I could add a few more fingerprints. (5 would be great instead of 3.)

For 6, are you saying you can’t just recover the whole wallet without a bitkey?
Because I think that’s correct. So it’s probably worth buying an extra.

It’s denominated in dollars though. I would presume it adjusts based on the dollar price of bitcoin.
And fees may not be that low forever.

I’m wondering how the Mobile Pay function actually works.
Is it working with Cash App and making a credit & then settling up on chain sometime later?
Otherwise I can’t see why 1) there should be a $200 limit and 2) why there should be an ability to send $1 (who should do this on chain? Nobody!), and 3) why it’s (only) in dollars and not #Bitcoin or Sats.
I don’t want a bunch of small UXTOs. And I don’t think we should be suggesting low information bitcoiners should do so either.

I think that was an entirely new law and not an enforcement of their competition laws.
I'm really limiting this discussion to the EUs competition laws vs the USA competition laws. (If we open it up to all laws I think the USA is better).
What I'm suggesting is that this is one of the few, perhaps only, areas of law where the EU laws result in better outcomes than USA laws.

The EU competition laws are why apple was forced to ditch lightning for USB-C. It sounds like they will be forced to allow apps outside of the app store (definitely the EU).
I just found out I can edit messages in a group chat that involves an adroid user which is why I posted this post. I don't know if that's a result of the EU but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

What’s the likelihood we end up with separate lightning networks?
Here’s how I see this happening.
The government passes a law that requires all companies who operate lightning channels to 1) know who they connect to and 2) that who they connect to is a person or entity subject to the laws of the United States.
As of right now, most lightning payments flow through one of these large companies.
This means anyone who connects to the likes of Cashapp, Strike, or River will know that the government knows who they are and they can expect to be subpoenaed to find out who they are connected to.
And suddenly we have a US regulated and surveilled lightning network and then another rest of the world lightning network.

@npub1sg6…f63m: what if the hardware key didn’t need to be near the same mobile key whose funds it was signing for but could be near another trusted person’s social key so it could be used as a second signer? (Using similar tech as the social recovery.)
I’m thinking two trusted friend/family members exchange hardware keys and, if I’m reading this right, neither can do anything to each other’s funds unilaterally. They can just co-sign for a payment, a change to the mobile limits, or a mobile key recovery.
The only area of concern I see is authorizing changes to trusted contacts (I assume that’s not unilateral, and it must first requested by the mobile key) and security settings (which I assume is the same).m
I’m thinking this reduces geographic risk and even attack risk. On rice, the story of Japanese rice is the story of fiat globalism gone crazy. So, in Japan, rice is a staple but according to the government growing and consuming its own rice is also a matter of national security and Japanese pride and heritage. So the
Japanese instituted a bunch of large tariffs on imports (at one point they fully banned imports) and banned exports. But Japan was part of the WTO and this was a clear violation of the WTO. They negotiated that they would buy a quota of foreign rice but they don’t use it. They stick it in warehouses to rot.
At one point, the price of rice started skyrocketing effectively harming poorer nations like the Philippines. So some negotiations took place and they got Japan to agree to release its surplus stock in its warehouses and the price started to come back down.
As far as I’m aware, this is still an ongoing practice. But admittedly, I haven’t kept up with it. So it may no longer be the case they do this.
No surprise that global central planning doesn’t work and often causes insane outcomes.

Anyone else feel nauseous, distracted, and anxious from the cortisol and serotonin increase from the recent price action?
This is a weird thing to voice but I’m finding it unpleasant because as I’ve gotten older, my version of happiness is closer to contentment and equanimity.
