There will be many L2s. Liquid, ecash, ark, spark ect. If a user is paying someone in a different L2 then the transfer of value will between the two will be in lightning.
If it’s in the same L2 such as liquid > liquid or a transaction within the same ecash/fedi mint then no lightning will be needed.

They have stated both goals. They aim to crack down on what they perceive to be either far left or far right protestors. The free Palestine protestors are certainly a huge target.
Hate speech laws are already being used against the NSN. They claim they want to increase this even more. No doubt they also want to use this against left wing protestors. Anyone who has a radical ideology that upsets the happy power structures.
Maybe everything is a psyop.
But psyops or not, more government power, more laws and more restrictions on speech are never a good thing.

I do find it a hard balance.
I know I could go through life ignoring what I know is happening around me. Push out of my mind that the cage I am in is shrinking by the day and simply enjoy life.
You need to find the sweet spot between knowing what is happening and speaking about it without blackballed and debilitated. Maintain gratitude in what you have. Still try to spread joy to those around you. But do not let yourself ignore the evils.
Find peace in reality no matter how dark rather than hiding from it no matter how tempting I may find that option.

Australia's response to the Bondi attack is not surprising but it is truly terrifying.
The governments response has been:
- Ban Protests
- Restrict speech all the way "to the constitutional limit"
- New hate speech laws
- Increase powers of a newly created taskforce to monitor and crack down on speech
All of this comes one week after nation wide teenage social media ban and the slow roll out of a KYC internet.

I do not think they are designed to fix any of the problems they are stated to fix.
They are just incremental steps in rolling out a complete surveillance and control grid.

Good question. It will be interesting to see if they just focus on the big tech companies or if they will go after the little guys as well.
The legislation is extremely broad. The way it is written any website that allows communication between two or more users or any website that hosts user generated content is classed as a social media company that must verify age.

The problem they would be solving is increased privacy in transactions and allowing offline P2P transactions of tether.
Usually ecash means you have to add a layer of trust however in the case of tether you are already trusting them so by removing a centralised blockchain from the mix you are actually decreasing the trust needed not increasing it.

Yesterday I was thinking of a forum setup that I would call Dunbar’s forum” where you could create invite only private forums each that had their own topic or theme but a maximum of 150 active users.
Take the concept of Dunbar’s number and apply it to our online communities. Create small niche groups where people know each other and have a reputation. The side effect is the benefit of being a bot or paid influencer is small as your reach is limited. Being private in nature allows for moderation to be determined by the individual group.
The internet is build on connections and does not need to be one big bucket of internet. Not everyone needs to see everything or be connected to everyone. It is the “web” that is important. The fact that information can travel between these nodes not that it is available everywhere at once all of the time.

I have had an excellent experience with them.
While my channel was open all my transactions went through for low fees exactly as you would want. But where they really impressed me was with their customer service when I needed help.
Their customer service was excellent and responsive and it really felt like they wanted to do everything they could to help.
It was truly appreciated and left me very impressed.
I thought the “Community first” writeup on their website might just be marketing slop but it really felt like they mean it.
If I am looking to open any channels in the future LNServer will be my first choice.

I will speak for myself since I am guilty of posting “doomer” content on nostr.
I feel trapped. Like we see all these problems in the world that are invisible to the masses. Sounding the alarm but no one hears the sirens. Or maybe just seeking validation that I am not alone in the way I see the world. That there are other crazy people like me who see the walls closing in on liberty.
Perhaps it’s not productive. Perhaps it is good to vent.
“Tick tock, next block” is great for bitcoin who is fully digital and is not burdened by living in our deteriorating physical society. But for me its not “tick tock, next block” it’s “tick tock, another tax”, “tick tock, digital ID”, “tick tock, we are poisoning more of your food”.
Maybe we have just seen too much and know too much that we have broken in a way. Like a hyperactive immune system. I described to someone the other day that someone else could just be going out for coffee and it’s a pleasant experience but for me it could be a ptsd inducing experience of feeling trapped in an evil system. They see a line to get a coffee but I see the sign that say “card only” paving the way for full financial surveillance, I see the person in front of me wearing a mask still stuck in their covid fear mindset, then I look at my feet to see the faded remains of the “stay six feet apart” stickers. I see the rows of sugary crap they are selling to everyone to poison them and the paper cups lined with plastic that are filling our bodies with micro plastics. And the list goes on… the person feeding big tech scrolling instagram, the wifi beacon pinging everyones phones in the corner, the fact that the coffee itself costs double what it did a few years ago…and on and on.
Perhaps “tick tock, next block” is the mantra we should give ourselves as well. At times I have found peace in a stoic mindset and this mantra speaks to that way of thinking. It is worth being reminded that we should put more positivity out in to the world and to not feed our fears and negativity. That as a nostr community we have the opportunity to focus on the world we want to build not simply the world we want to escape from.

I was calling them “loopholes” in the quotation marks because that is how governments could frame it in the future.
You are correct that open source technology does and will continue to exist. But devices can and I suspect will become more locked down, or at least there will be pressure to move in that direction.
Apple already has tight restrictions about what is allowed in their phones App Store. They would also comply with any government directives about what is or is not allowed to be made freely available in their app stores (such as a hypothetical future ban on browsers). Maybe it is possible to jailbreak an iPhone or side load apps but how many people do you know that would do this? Do you know anyone who has ever put an app on their iPhone that they did not download off the Apple App Store? The google play store will be no different but at least android is more open.

I am done with directing other peoples dating apps.
I had a friend who was on a dating app and I was swiping for her with her giving the final say. There was one guy who I liked the look of but she did not want to swipe yes. I convinced her to give him a go - “at least chat to him and you can always deleting him later” I said.
Well they ended up matching and meeting up. The next time I saw her she told me she was pregnant and it was with the guy I swiped on! She told me that I was the reason she was going to have a baby. At the time she seemed happy enough. Surprised that her life had taken this unexpected turn and just sort of amused at how it happened from a guy she did not even want to swipe on.
The next time I saw her it was a different story. She was still pregnant but they had broken up and it seemed he did not want to have much to do with her. She was mad at me - “This is all your fault! I never would have swiped on him! I am going to be a single mother because of you!”…yeah. Anyway we dont talk anymore. I hope she is doing ok.

We are seeing increasing digital censorship and controls.
I can imagine a world where having unrestricted access to a website through an open internet protocol is not deemed “safe for society” anymore.
Apps that either get banned from the App Store or would never have been allowed in the first place instead choose to run as web apps. Will this “loophole” always be allowed?
